Chapter 5 - Now You Can Get a Discount
Her sword had been broken—Lin Qingxue’s sword, which she had obtained with a substantial contribution to her sect, had been easily snapped in two.
“You— how dare you—” Lin Qingxue’s eyes were red, and she struggled to speak, her voice trembling with distress.
After traveling the Jianghu and upholding justice for so long, she had never experienced such humiliation. Having her sword snapped by someone’s fingers was incredibly degrading.
“Miss Lin, don’t be afraid! We’ll help you!” The surrounding martial artists, seeing Lin Qingxue’s misfortune, immediately spoke up.
However, as soon as they attempted to move, a bone-chilling pressure held them down. Before the terrifying aura, they instinctively halted all actions.
A mist abruptly appeared within the grand hall, and a figure emerged, half-concealed within the fog. When the mist dissipated, the crowd could finally make out what it was.
A massive white snake with crimson wings coiled in mid-air and released a hiss. Its body seemed to have no weight at all, carried effortlessly by the mist as it gracefully moved.
“A demon beast! This woman can control demon beasts!” one of the martial artists exclaimed with disbelief in his voice.
“It’s not a demon beast,” Lin Qingxue, her face drained of color, stared at the massive serpent. She forgot about her tears for a moment. “This is a Shikigami.”
The Twelve Shikigami, also known as the Twelve Heavenly Generals, were the deities of the twelve months on the Shikigami board. They were fundamentally different from demon beasts.
But Lin Qingxue only knew this much because those who could control Shikigami were extremely rare.
“Get lost,” Zhi Shi looked coldly at Lin Qingxue, “or die here.”
The word “die” stimulated the nerves of everyone present, causing them to instinctively retreat.
“Leaving the green mountains doesn’t mean there are no more firewood to burn! Let’s temporarily leave this demonic sect!”
“Right, that blood-sucking demoness is probably not here. We need to quickly find her whereabouts!”
“Exactly, we don’t have time to linger here!”
The martial artists, drenched in cold sweat, instinctively moved away and issued hurried, random lines.
Lin Qingxue clenched her lips, unwilling to leave, as her intuition told her that Yu Lan must be here.
If she searched carefully, she was certain she could find her. However, when her gaze met Zhi Shi’s once more, she was so frightened that she shut her eyes and managed to mumble, “Let’s go.”
Seeing Zhi Shi and the other martial artists fleeing in fear, she quietly put away her Shikigami.
Zhi Shi repressed her killing intent, returning to He Yuzhou’s side. “Master, the people have all left.”
“Oh no, you scared her off too, and I couldn’t persuade her to join us smoothly,” He Yuzhou sighed.
Zhi Shi, with her usual expressionless face, said, “There will be others in the future.”
Reviving the sect was her master’s wish, and she would support it wholeheartedly.
If it weren’t for those people looking down on her master earlier, she wouldn’t have emitted such a murderous aura.
“Master, I want to hug you,” Zhi Shi suddenly said something very childlike to her master.
“Tonight,” He Yuzhou replied irritably, “Why is everything on your mind about that?”
“…,” Zhi Shi remained expressionless, but her eyes revealed her deep sense of frustration.
“For now, let’s take care of her first,” He Yuzhou went to a small cabinet near the door of the grand hall and opened it.
Yu Lan was awkwardly hidden inside this square cabinet. Those martial artists probably didn’t expect her to hide in a cabinet that wasn’t suitable for holding a person. Furthermore, it was right by the door of the grand hall, so they didn’t bother searching it carefully.
However, given half an hour, they would likely notice this area hadn’t been searched, and Yu Lan would be discovered.
Her condition was already critical, and hiding in a cabinet not meant for human confinement had made her situation worse.
“Pull her out and treat her,” He Yuzhou pulled Yu Lan out of the cabinet and shook his head.
Her injuries were severe, and it seemed those martial artists had shown no mercy.
Yu Lan wasn’t even a cultivator, yet she had been hunted by a group of martial artists. Surviving was a small miracle in itself.
Yu Lan’s vision was blurry, and she could only make out the vague outlines of He Yuzhou and Zhi Shi. Soon, even her vision started to blur, and her consciousness began to disintegrate.
“I’m still alive?” When she was hidden in the cabinet, she could only hear voices from outside and didn’t know what was happening. She was just terrified of being discovered and killed by those martial artists.
That single strike hadn’t killed her on the spot, instead, it had sent her flying to this unknown sect. It was her stroke of luck. If she had been sent elsewhere, she probably wouldn’t have survived.
The best-case scenario would have been to be escorted to the authorities and be beheaded in front of the public eye.
“You are indeed still alive,” He Yuzhou nodded in agreement.
The girl in his arms felt incredibly delicate, as though she hadn’t eaten in days.
Though this fragility stimulated a certain desire within him, He Yuzhou knew that if he were to act recklessly, she would die in the Divine Vision Sect.
“Did you have any interest in becoming my disciple?” He Yuzhou asked, “Now, joining my Divine Vision Sect means you can become my direct disciple.”
“There aren’t many opportunities to be a direct disciple of the Sect Leader.” He thought for a moment and added, “I can even give you a set of cultivation attire, and if you’re not satisfied, I can also give you a powerful cultivation technique.”
Unfortunately, Yu Lan’s mind was currently clouded, and she couldn’t absorb He Yuzhou’s words.
“Master, she’s in dire straits,” Zhi Shi frowned and said. “Our sect doesn’t have any medicines for healing, so we’ll need to bring a physician to the mountain to treat her.”
“Help… save me…” Yu Lan’s faint and hoarse voice cried out as if she were on the brink of death.
She had just barely escaped from a nightmare, and she didn’t want to die like this. As long as she could survive, she was willing to do anything.
“If you agree to become a disciple of my Divine Vision Sect, I will find someone to save you,” He Yuzhou said after some contemplation.
“Master, are you not afraid of being betrayed by her in the future?” Zhi Shi frowned as she spoke.
She was very concerned that Yu Lan’s loyalty to her master might be low in the future.
She thought that forcibly taking someone as a disciple was no different from holding a knife to their throat and forcing them to become one.
“I agree… I agree…” Yu Lan, like a drowning person clinging to a lifeline, struggled to speak these words.
At this moment, her only desire was to stay alive.
“Betrayal? Betrayal is not a problem, and besides, it’s the problem for future He Yuzhou, what does it have to do with me?” He Yuzhou nodded and said, “Zhi Shi, go down the mountain and bring a physician up here!”
“Understood,” Zhi Shi respectfully replied.
“Thank you for… saving me…” Yu Lan managed to say these words with great difficulty before falling into a deep unconsciousness.
