Wandering in Omniverse

Ch – 4

Grrr...

The Scarlet Black Tiger stared at its target with scarlet flames roaring over its body and droll leaking from its mouth.

Jason could feel a warm and soothing feeling covering his burnt shoulder, healing it with speed visible to the naked eye. Even though it was happening, Jason never left his eye on the Scarlet Flame Tiger.

While confronting a powerful enemy, it was necessary to neither show weakness nor let the enemy have the chance to launch a surprise attack on you.

Jason was the king of assassins and had already made a map of the cave in his brain through his observations.

ROAR!

The Scarlet Black Tiger roared and pounced on Jason, its claws aiming for his throat.

Jason was ready this time and welcomed the attack with a sly smile. Just as the Scarlet Flame Tiger touched Jason, his body instantly split into pieces.

The Scarlet Flame Tiger seemed a little taken aback by the disappearance of its prey.

Whoosh!

A sword pierced through the air and appeared behind the predator.

'Phantom Steps!'

Jason acted instantly and used mystic footwork, appearing behind the predator, and aiming for its neck.

Stab!

The sword pierced through the flames and entered the Scarlet Black Tiger's body. But its body was quite sturdy and the blade was unable to reach its organs.

Despite that it was still a heavy wound, making the predator roar in anger, and the flames over his body intensified.

Jason could feel the flames burning over his skin but he continued without a slight change in his reaction.

Crack!

Jason used his strength to push it further but the blade had taken quite some damage already and broke into pieces.

'Shit!'

Jason cursed and instantly jumped back, avoiding the flame claws of the enraged Scarlet Flame Tiger by a hair breath.

Rooaarrr!!

Jason's attack had caused it to enter the rage state, increasing its strength by two layers. The aura of the Scarlet Flame Tiger instantly reached the peak of the Black Gold rank. It ignored its injuries and charged at Jason, the scarlet flame burning in the entire cave.

Jason dodged its attack and plucked the True Healing Grass, putting it into his inventory, afraid of letting it burn by the scarlet flames before running towards the entrance of the cave.

The Scarlet Flame Tiger seized that chance and pounced on Jason again, threatening to tear him apart.

Jason jumped to the side avoiding the claws again, putting some distance between them while moving towards the entrance. Staying in the cave for a long time would be foolish.

Soon, Jason and the Scarlet Flame Tiger were out of the cave in the open. In its agitated state, the attack speed and power of Scarlet Black Tiger had skyrocketed but Jason was still able to keep avoiding its attack with ease by using Phantom Steps, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike it.

With a large open area, Jason had much room to avoid its crazy attacks, much easier than back in the cave.

Jason knew that the tiger could not maintain this state for long and continued to dodge.

Very soon after two minutes, Jason could feel its aura weakening and movements turning sluggish.

Waiting for such a moment, Jason didn't dare to neglect it and seized this opportunity. His hand turned into a claw as he charged at his prey. He was enveloped by black energy as he struck the Scarlet Black Tiger.

"Wraith Style 2nd move: Ghostly Dragon Claw!"

With a heaven-shaking dragon's roar, his claw clashed with Scarlet Black Tiger, penetrating his skin like a hot knife cutting through cheese.

The giant tiger wailed miserably, wriggling its body, soon falling lifelessly on the ground.

The black energy returned to Jason's body as he heaved a sigh of relief.

'It is a good choice to practice a fighting martial art aside from one used for escaping. The sword was good but was just a silver rank, if not for that it might have broken during my first hunt. *Sigh* Well, I should go somewhere else. The blood will attract other predators from my vicinity.'

Jason used 'devour' on the Scarlet Black Tiger, consuming him before leaving the place as fast as possible.

[Master should cultivate another physique for offense and defense. Heaven Devourer Evil Physique is good for devouring enemies but aside from it, it had no special features such as interpretable defense or infinity strength.]

'Eh? I can practice other physique too?' Jason was startled by it, asking in shock. He never thought it was possible to cultivate many physiques in one person.

[Normally, it will put too much pressure on your current body, even breaking it apart. But since the Master has Divine Blessing and also the Heaven Devourer Evil Physique, you can cultivate it.]

'But wouldn't the Heaven Devourer Evil Physique devour other physiques?'

[No. It is only possible if you cultivate a low-level physique than Heaven Devourer Evil Physique.]

'So, you are telling me that I can only cultivate another Immortal Physique.'

[Yes. But I should warn Master that the requirement for any Immortal Physique is enormous. You are lucky to awaken the Heaven Devourer Evil Physique without putting any effort.]

Jason thought for a moment and after running his mind for over five minutes, he finally decided to cultivate his physique. In these past months, he had seen and felt the limitations of his body during his fight with demon beasts. Despite being strengthened by devouring the demon beasts and constantly practicing, his human body still fell short in comparison to demon beasts' natural strong physiques.

Jason used Haki to find a safe spot in the St. Ancestral Mountain Range where he could retreat to cultivate his physique. Finding an old-looking ruin not far away from his position, he decided to make it his base. He either killed or directly devoured the demon beasts, making the ruin empty.

The ruins had a hundred or so demon beasts at the level of Silver, Gold, and one Black Gold rank nightmare beast.

The ruins were quite big with different shapes of buildings and scriptures. The writing on the broken walls was ancient language from the Snow Wind Empire Era. Via those old words, Jason also learned that the current ruins were a human establishment called the Sun Moon City.

Looking through the ruins, Jason even found a few pieces of rusted equipment with a few treasures that were in a usable condition. Among them, the one most noticeable was an artifact with the appearance of a black jade pot with a sparkling and translucent, gem-like shine on it.

Jason learned its name from Rin with the possible uses of it. He put it back into his inventory and dived into the Library in search of the options. He was looking for a Physique with the best defensive power.

He wasn't worried about offensive power yet because as an assassin, he had learned all the weaknesses in human bodies.

With how the current world integrated with demon spirits to strengthen themselves, it was still possible to kill them.

His current weakness was defense!

Normally, an assassin never confronted his prey directly, using various tricks or techniques to kill his prey but the situation was ever-changing like Yin and Yang. Since he had embarked on his journey, he should prepare for the worst possible outcome.
