It's Teppan Time
I looked at the controls for the teppan grill, familiarising myself with its functions. Already prepared beside me were the ingredients I had bought while my three companions sat across from me, all of them watching me intently.
Let's see… There's quite a bit of things I can do with this but I think it's better to just keep it simple.
I have some chicken, beef, rice, an assortment of veggies and of course, some fish.
Naturally, with a setup like this, I was going to make some fried rice.
I was surprised that they even managed to get me 'leftover rice' which I specifically requested as well. I was actually given this one for free because they admitted that they would have thrown that away because those were 'wasted' rice.
Tsk… Uncultured swines…
Putting that aside, this grill is actually pretty amazing. It can even tell you the precise temperature of everything placed on top of it and do an interior scan of everything being cooked so you know whether it was overcooked or not.
"What are you making, Tera?" Amber asked, leaning over the counter with a sparkle in her eyes, looking like she didn't almost drown an hour ago.
"Oh you'll see. I think you girls will like what I have in store for you."
"Do you need our help, Mistress?" Lea offered.
I shook my head, "You've already helped me prepare the ingredients. It's enough for me."
"Fish…" Ries muttered, a line of drool leaking out from the side of her lips.
I smacked my spatulas together a few times, trying to draw upon whatever experience I had with the teppan grill in the past.
Alright… I spun the spatulas around my finger, getting used to the tool as I checked its centre of gravity matched where I expected it to be.
Satisfied with the tool, I did a few more spins with it around my hand before flipping it into the air and catching it without problems.
Heh~ Looks like I've still got it.
I did a few more tricks where I juggled my spatulas a little and even flipped it behind my back to catch it in front of me. It actually feels easier than I remembered it to be.
Not gonna complain about that of course.
The three girls in front of me were making noises of amazement which I felt was pretty cute. I wanted to do more to impress them but I decided to start cooking already since we were hungry.
I tapped on the screen that controls the grill in front of me, selecting the function that let cooking oil sepp onto its surface through microscopic holes on its surface.
I could even control the exact shape of how the oil would pop out from the grill as well so I went ahead to draw a heart shape on it.
With another tap of my finger, a small squirt bottle filled with oil popped out from the side and I took it to squirt out a trail of oil leading from the heart to an opening at the side of the grill.
Tapping on my screen, a small flame shot out from the opening, igniting the oil and causing flames to erupt on the grill's surface.
The three girls let out gasps of surprise and Amber even jumped out of her seat in a panic.
"Tera!! Are you alright?!" She cried out.
I chuckled, "Relax, Amber, this is all part of the show. Watch."
As soon as I said that, the fire died down, leaving only the smell of burning oil wafting through the air.
I set the bottle aside and picked up one of the most saddest things I had the misfortune of discovering from my order.
The eggs came precracked in a bottle…
Well fuck, I can still make do with this.
I flipped the bottle of eggs through the air, watching it spin before catching it and flipping it back up from behind.
I then used my two spatulas to catch it in between them before throwing it lightly into the air so that I could balance it on the flat of one of my spatulas.
With my other spatula, I knocked it against the cap of the bottle that I had loosened earlier, allowing it to be flung aside.
With a deft flick of my wrist the bottle flipped itself upside down and I caught it in between my two spatulas again.
The contents of the bottle spilled out onto the grill, the yellowish liquid that was mixed with some chunks of white sizzled the moment it hit the metallic surface.
I dropped the empty bottle at the side and used my spatulas to spread the eggs out evenly, letting it cook on the grill.
While the egg was cooking, I used the controls to oil up another portion of the grill and poured all the rice on top of it.
Oh~ The sizzling sound is just right.
I used my spatulas to chop up the rice to separate them and spread them out on the grill before I poured out the vegetables on the other side of the grill to cook alongside it.
Another tap on the screen materialised a hard light cover around the vegetables that would allow it to be steamed inside the cover.
This thing is so damn good.
I then did a few more flips with my spatulas, enjoying the sounds of wonder coming from the three girls in front of me before I mixed the eggs with the rice.
Another sad thing I had to deal with is the absence of the sauces I needed but that was easily solved since I had prepared them using synthfood before hand.
Thus, the rice was drizzled with my own version of soy sauce before I mixed them again.
Once that was done, I gathered the rice into a heart shape and moved them to a section of the grill where I lowered the temperature so that it would remain warm but wouldn't overcook, something I couldn't do if this was a normal grill.
Next came the meat and fish as I started laying out the beef, chicken and fish on the grill, letting them sear until they were perfectly cooked.
I also made sure to drizzle a bit more of my own sauce on top of them since I was lacking salt and pepper and had to make my own to get them to taste the way I want as well.
Using a knife with a large fork, I cut up the meats and separated them into equal portions before placing them aside.
I then took out a fresh set of spatulas and flipped them for a bit as a service before I started dividing up the rice into four equal portions alongside the meat.
I made sure to give more fish to Ries's part of her food in return for her portion of meats that I divided amongst the three of us.
With that done, I placed each portion into four separate plates before I deactivated the cover on the vegetables, finding them steamed perfectly.
As a final flourish, I took out one of the onions I had prepared beforehand and built the classic volcano shape before I poured in oil and alcohol into the hole.
I had to resort to using another trail of oil that I squirted on the grill to ignite it since there weren't any lighters around and the only open flame source came from a small hole at the side of the grill.
I still managed to make it work as fire spewed out from the top of the onion volcano, the fire flaring high enough that we had to tilt upwards to see the top.
The girls already knew I had it under control so they were not as worried about the pyrotechnic display and simply let out voices of amazement.
With that display done, I cut up the onion to allow it to join the rest of the vegetables, dividing them up to join the four portions that I then transferred onto separate plates.
Once I was done, I served the dishes and shut off the grill, joining the girls' side of the counter by sitting in between Amber and Lea.
"Let's dig in!" I announced, eager to try out my first teppan cooking in this universe.
I took up my spoon and fork, using it to shovel a good mouthful of the fried rice into my mouth alongside a piece of the meat.
The moment I bit down on the food, my mouth was flooded with the juices of the meat and the salty and peppery taste of the rice.
Oh damn… This is so good… This might be my best creation yet!
I looked to the side to see what the other girls thought and all of them had the same expression of bliss on their face. Heck, Ries was practically mewling while Amber was shaking in her seat like she was having an orgasm.
Mmm… Yep, this is good. I should make this more often.
And if I can't find a grill like this to put on my ship… I guess the option of returning here just to make use of it would always be open~
