Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Disliked
"Wake up, wake up!"
Sule's persistent calls pulled He Kui from his slumber, gradually bringing him back to consciousness.
Struggling to get out of bed, He Kui quickly realized where he was, his gaze gradually sharpening.
"Did the units arrive?"
"Yeah, you've been asleep for six hours."
"Sorry, I was just too exhausted."
Normally, He Kui could manage just three hours of sleep per day, but ever since arriving on Earth, he had been running on fumes without a moment's rest, completely disrupting his biological clock.
"That's understandable. Anyway, get up quickly and come with me."
As a member of the team, Sule couldn't lead the main construction efforts but was assigned to assist in assembling and setting up the radar stations, which was much easier than He Kui's task of working in the cramped cockpit.
"Okay."
Without further ado, He Kui rubbed his face and followed Sule out of the tent.
"What's that smell? Haven't you changed your clothes?"
As soon as they stepped out of the tent, the wind carried a sour odor that made Sule quickly cover her nose.
"Where would I find clean clothes? The supplies are still up top."
Currently, the priority for air-dropped supplies was the base construction, and only someone of Sule's rank could get a change of clothes.
"You should have told me; I could have requested a few sets for you."
"Let's skip that."
As they walked out of the tree-covered path, the bright midday sun greeted them, hitting He Kui's face and causing him to squint.
"The sun on Earth feels different from the one back home," Sule remarked, shielding her eyes from the sunlight.
"It is different."
Although He Kui had seen many suns before, he hadn't been on Earth for years, and seeing the sun again felt somewhat unfamiliar, especially with the intense heat that made him break into a light sweat.
He felt like a piece of overcooked garbage, emitting a foul odor, which prompted Sule to step back a bit.
"W-what's wrong? I'm not judging you!"
Meeting He Kui's gaze, a faint blush appeared on her face.
"...Yeah, let's hurry up."
He was not into younger girls; he absolutely was not!
Muttering to himself, they soon arrived at another hangar within the base.
Rows of muddy GINNs stood there, surrounded by numerous maintenance personnel bustling about.
"What do you mean it's too muddy and got stuck? Do you have any idea how long it takes to clean the foot thrusters? At this rate, we might as well replace the legs!"
"That monitor over there is stuck with bird droppings; hurry and clean it!"
"Forget about that thruster for now! How high can we expect to fly on Earth anyway?"
The atmosphere was lively, and He Kui couldn't help but glance at the petite girl beside him.
"I know, I know, the legs are useless! I didn't design them!"
Sule shot a glare at He Kui, her eyes sharp.
As they walked further inside, the noise from outside faded away, revealing rows of brand new GINNs that looked nothing like the battle-damaged ones outside.
Without needing Sule to explain, He Kui guessed these must have been newly air-dropped mobile suits.
"This is it."
At the end of the path, the purple body and rounded head of the Deen stood before them, complete with its insect-like folding wings.
"Director Sule."
The personnel responsible for the Deen's repairs greeted them upon their arrival.
"We're here to check the radar functions."
Sule stepped forward, her small stature exuding an air of maturity, as if she were an adult playing the part of a child.
However, the others didn't dare laugh at her demeanor.
"Yes, we've received the orders. Please come in. The Alliance forces could arrive at any moment, so we'll need your assistance, Director."
"No problem, let's get started."
He Kui followed Sule to the main control computer connected to the radar system on the Deen's head.
