Who Stole My Eggs?

Chapter 22 - I

Huo Yao ascended the mountain, discovering a dark and deep cave with dazzling blood stains scattered at its entrance.

After taking two steps inside, he unintentionally stepped on something. Looking down, he realized it was Xie Zuo’s arm, forcefully bitten off.

Huo Yao’s heart filled with anguish and self-blame. What had he done? Why did he underestimate Xie Zuo’s situation? His substitute body couldn’t use any demonic power. How could he have expected him to defend himself?

“Rumble–!” Thunder and lightning roared, expressing the wrath of the Deity of Thunder.

Transforming into a bolt of lightning, Huo Yao rushed into the depths of the cave, like a sharp sword piercing the heart of the wolf clan.

Xie Zuo laid on the ground, only half of his body remaining. He was dying, blood covering his head and face, appearing miserable and embarrassed.

Thunder exploded, causing the wolves to whimper in fear.

Huo Yao’s arrival illuminated the entire cave. Filled with murderous intent, he rendered the proud wolf king Alya powerless, lying on the ground, trembling.

“So majestic, the Great Deity of Thunder,” Xie Zuo said lazily.

Huo Yao surveyed the scene and understood why the thunder failed to scare away the wolves. Xie Zuo had used his own flesh and blood as a medium to turn all the wolves into his puppets. Once they recognized their master, they were naturally under his control.

Puppetry was the sole spell Xie Zuo, lacking demonic power, could employ. Using flesh and blood as a sacrifice, he relied on strong willpower to control the opponent’s soul, making them completely surrender.

After completing the puppet technique, several blood-red threads remained visible, shooting out from Xie Zuo’s heart and penetrating deeply into the hearts of every Beiyuan demon wolf present.

Initially wanting to kill the wolves upon seeing Xie Zuo’s misery, Huo Yao hesitated. The wolves had become Xie Zuo’s puppets; they would be his personal guards and couldn’t be harmed.

Seeing Huo Yao frozen, Xie Zuo coughed out a mouthful of blood, saying, “Excuse me, could you pick up my body and put it together.”

Led by Alya, the wolves swiftly found Xie Zuo’s torn body parts.

“Great Thunder Deity, how long do you plan to hold my arm?”

Huo Yao approached Xie Zuo slowly.

His aura was frightening, thunder and lightning surrounding him, causing the wolves to retreat in fear, trembling like chaff.

Huo Yao knelt and carefully reconstructed Xie Zuo’s body.

Rolling his eyes, Xie Zuo said, “Fortunately, it’s just a substitute made of wood. The feeling of being cut into pieces is too bad. I really admire that Beiyuan Deity now.”

Huo Yao injected his divine power into Xie Zuo’s body, and under the blessing of divine power, the body quickly generated new flesh and blood. Within half an hour, Xie Zuo’s body was completely healed.

.

Xie Zuo let out a long sigh. Despite the severe ordeal, he gained a team of fierce generals—an unexpected surprise.

Attempting to sit up, he raised his arms, but Huo Yao embraced him tightly, as if wanting to melt him into his body.

Xie Zuo gasped, “The newly grown body is about to burst again…”

Huo Yao eased his grip, attempting to hug him again, but Xie Zuo pushed him away, saying, “No need to trouble you, Great Thunder Deity. I still want to thank you. Thank you for not killing me.”

Xie Zuo staggered out, the wolves whimpering as they followed. Waving his hand, he said, “Just stay here. I will call you again later.”

Alya led the wolves to prostrate themselves, saying, “Best farewell to the master!”

Huo Yao silently followed Xie Zuo. Approaching the cave entrance, Shi Yuan climbed up panting, asking, “How is it? What’s going on inside, little demon king? Are you still alive?”

Facing the light, Shi Yuan couldn’t see clearly what happened in the cave. When he saw Xie Zuo emerge unharmed, his eyes widened in shock.

Xie Zuo held down Shi Yuan’s bald head, saying, “I disappoint you, Beiyuan Deity. I’m still alive.”

“I didn’t mean that. I heard Xiaopang say…” Shi Yuan blushed. “No, you called me what? How do you know?”

Xie Zuo smiled self-deprecatingly, “I am not stupid.”

Being able to get along with Huo Yao like a friend meant his status was certainly not low. Valued by Huo Yao, he always maintained the reputation of Beiyuan Deity. Also, it was said that before Beiyuan Deity became a deity, he was a poor monk, spending his time begging and seeking food from hundreds of families in Beiyuan.

“Little Uncle Xie, little Uncle Xie—!” Lu Xiaopang, left in the valley, cried loudly upon seeing Xie Zuo safe and sound. “Wow, it’s great that you are still alive…”

Xie Zuo smiled and walked down the path.

Shi Yuan looked at Xie Zuo and then at Huo Yao, “What’s wrong? Did you quarrel?”

Huo Yao lowered his eyes and said, “He’s angry with me.”

Shi Yuan felt guilty, “This is my fault. I misunderstood him, and I also led you astray. Who would have thought that he would go to this extent to save Xiaopang… Isn’t he an evil demon king? I thought…”

“It’s my fault,” Huo Yao said solemnly. “He has never done a single evil thing since he was born.”

.

Huo Yao passed by like the wind and stopped in front of Xie Zuo.

“What are you doing, Deity of Thunder? I didn’t mess around. Do you still want to teach me a lesson?” Xie Zuo was weak, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead, but he didn’t want to show weakness in front of Huo Yao. He didn’t want Huo Yao to see him in such a state.

Huo Yao put one arm around Xie Zuo’s waist, holding him up with the other hand. “I’ll take you down the mountain.”

Xie Zuo’s chest rose and fell violently. He wanted to punch Huo Yao but couldn’t. Almost enduring it, he closed his eyes tightly, slumping in Huo Yao’s arms like a rag. “Whatever.”

Xie Zuo felt a fire in his heart, wanting to vent but unable to find a reason.

When bitten by the pack of wolves, hearing the thunder’s rumble and seeing dazzling lightning, his heart filled with joy. However, the majestic Dharma sound came not to scare the wolves but to warn him.

“Xie Zuo, don’t mess around!”

Listening to what Huo Yao said, how could he mess around? He shouldn’t have cared about that little guy getting in the way; he should have let him be torn alive by the wolves!

Wu Xiao’s stinky squid was right. Getting close to Huo Yao meant becoming unlucky and dying badly.

In short, the herb-gathering trip started joyfully but ended on a cloudy note.

Note: aww… poor Xie Zuo
