Chapter 45
Chapter 45: Infiltration and Annihilation
“I understand.”
Liliya nodded slightly, suppressing her wavering expression. Although those undead or the Throne of Immortality sounded formidable, as long as they were killable, they weren’t truly terrifying.
There’s nothing in this world that can be obtained without a price. The bodies of the undead freeze the aging process, gaining prolonged life, but they must also bear the backlash.
Princess boldly speculated that besides what Hua mentioned, there must be greater side effects.
If not, such a transformation could even be termed an evolution of sorts; the Throne of Immortality wouldn’t have kept such a low profile, and even Liliya, a princess, had never heard of it.
The enemy may be strong, but she, Liliya Meikailande, wasn’t to be underestimated either. With two thousand elite soldiers, shadow guards, the legendary Miss Hua… If worst comes to worst, there’s still big sister Vilyric to count on.
“Your Highness, have you made your decision?”
The blue-haired princess stood on her toes and cheerfully patted the shoulder of her guard, saying, “Haha, what are you saying, Miss Hua? At this point, do I really have a reason to back down? They’re just a bunch of corpses that should’ve long been buried. The living have no reason to fear the dead, right?”
“Is that so…”
As if influenced by Liliya, Miss Fiery Blossom’s furrowed brows began to relax, her gaze gradually firming up.
“In that case, please allow me to contribute as well.”
…
Time was of the essence, and the support from the Beastmen could arrive at any moment in the Tapeia Basin area. Thus, after a brief consultation, Liliya decided to attack in the morning rather than wait for nightfall.
Fortunately, it seemed that the suspected members of the Throne of Immortality hadn’t noticed that enemies were quietly approaching. At the most defensible entrance, there were only a few guards on duty, and even if there were sentries, they were lax.
Somewhat strange… This is still within the Beast Kingdom’s territory. Even if a certain agreement was reached between both sides, their vigilance is too lacking. It may be a harsh thing to say, but with the mindset of most Beastmen, any accident involving humans here is possible.
If that’s not the case, then the enemy must have known about Liliya and the others’ arrival, deliberately feigning weakness to lure the troops into an ambush in the valley.
The terrain of the Tapeia Basin is very suitable for defense, but conversely, if the only entrance is blocked, the people inside will have a hard time getting out, making it a double-edged sword.
Even so, what Liliya was going to do wouldn’t change; just as she said to Hua, this princess had no retreat left.
“Go.”
Hidden in the shadows, Liliya beckoned, and more than a dozen silhouettes sprang into action.
The assailants struck swiftly from high above, behind, or from various blind spots, thrusting their blades toward their targets’ heads at lightning speed, delivering the kiss of death.
Despite not having strategized in advance, none of these shadow guards repeated the enemy’s actions, showcasing their quality and tacit understanding.
At the same time, Miss Fiery Blossom released three arrows simultaneously, which curved in three distinct paths in midair, reaching the three guard captains’ brains before all the shadow guards even made a move.
A few shadow guards vanished, evidently going to deal with the hidden sentinels.
Bang, bang, bang, bang…
From Liliya’s command to the dozen people at the entrance collapsing simultaneously, just a few seconds passed. Even the strongest three Ink Steel-level experts couldn’t manage to convey any message before meeting their demise.
Oh wait, they were already dead. We should say their brains got wrecked, right?
According to the guidance of Miss Fiery Blossom, the only one who had fought a zombie before, the head is the sole weakness of the undead. Other body parts aren’t essential for them; even losing their heart won’t kill them, but a strike to the brain can instantly wipe them out.
When she heard this, Vilyric quietly scoffed inside.
This guy loves aiming for heads so much; could it be related? Maybe he suffered a similar loss before?
Not long after quickly eliminating the dozen guards, several shadow guards returned to Liliya, their blades still dripping with unknown liquid, evidently having dealt with the sentries as well.
With this, they could avoid the traps outside and head straight towards the enemy’s vicinity.
“Well done, relay to the troops: move silently and await my attack orders, advance!”
With a low command, Liliya rushed ahead, stepping over the crooked corpses, charging into the basin. Behind her, countless silver-armored human soldiers quietly surged through the entrance, while the shadow guards and Miss Fiery Blossom had vanished from sight.
“Oh dear, such enthusiasm is making me a bit nervous, but… there’s definitely something fishy here.”
Vilyric glanced back at the distant blue sky before turning to follow in Liliya’s footsteps.
The base of the Throne of Immortality was situated in the center of the basin, composed of a cluster of wooden huts surrounding a massive central hall.
Occasionally, members draped in black hoods could be seen moving in and out of the wooden huts, transporting supplies or sketching out a magic circle that Vilyric couldn’t comprehend in the open space.
“What’s that?”
The priestess asked out of curiosity, directly seeking knowledge from the knowledgeable princess beside her.
“…A teleportation magic circle, single-use, powered by magic crystals. Depending on the detail of the magic circle and the quality of the magic crystal, they can transport non-living objects of various weights and sizes. Once used, both the magic circle and the crystal are rendered useless. To prepare this many medium and low-tier magic crystals is a hefty investment. No wonder they can continuously funnel so much supplies into the Beast Kingdom without the Western Army noticing.”
Liliya explained rapidly, her expression grave. Such actions had exceeded what a certain prince could support.
Recalling the earlier actions of the acting council, it was likely that her three brothers, and even some significant ministers in the kingdom, were involved.
“However, as long as we seize this batch of magic crystal reserves and destroy the magic circle and supplies, they won’t be able to organize such a large-scale teleportation spot in the short term…”
Watching the signal of “Preparation Complete” coming from the hidden area, Liliya stood up, drawing her longsword, its tip directed forward.
“Warriors, destroy the evil, leave no one behind, kill!!”
“KILL!!!”
With the help of an amplification device, the princess’s command thundered like a clap of thunder, instantly igniting a deafening roar in the Tapeia Basin. Countless hidden soldiers, who had surrounded the entire base from all directions, surged forth like a silver wave toward the astonished black-cloaked figures!
“What are you… Ah!!”
“Enemy attack! Enemy attack! Quick, inform the Throne Lord!!”
“What are the guards doing? How come so many enemies have made it to the entrance!?”
Although they were called undead, these guys had expressions and speech as rich as real people, and their organization seemed quite competent.
Most of the black cloaks, after a brief shock, displayed no fear and immediately drew their weapons to counterattack the royal army, wildly mingling and fighting together, while a few clever ones darted towards the relatively sizable central hall.
It appears that the so-called Throne they were under was right there.
