Chapter 370: Chapter 370: The Descent into the X-Men Universe!
Cassilius, left bewildered by Clark's unconventional actions, finally met a swift and decisive end as Clark pointed from the air and unleashed his avenging spirit force with overwhelming power, crushing Cassilius completely. Neither the dark energy enveloping him nor the Phoenix Force that ill-suited him could resist the assault. Cassilius's body exploded on impact like a watermelon dropped from a great height, his flesh obliterated instantly by the terrifying energy, leaving behind only a lingering mix of dark energy and Phoenix Force without any trace of his existence.
After annihilating Cassilius, Clark pointed again, and the device that Mr. Marvel had crafted but not perfected, intended to connect different planes, was shattered into dust.
However, the destruction of the machine did not stop the space vortex; it only spun faster and more fiercely.
A crazed laugh echoed as what remained of Cassilius's energies, particularly the dark energy native to Dormammu, slowly coalesced into a giant, grinning brain-shaped form. It sneered at Clark, calm and composed, "You didn't expect this, did you? You've planned and schemed, yet you still missed a move! The channel between the two universes is now open, and my power can begin to slowly devour your universe. Soon, both universes will merge and then be consumed bit by bit by me!"
"Surprised?"
"Unexpected?"
"Now, it's irreversible, no matter how hard you try..."
Before Dormammu could finish his boastful preamble, Clark's punch shattered the dark energy construct, obliterating it! Clark, of course, had his plans, but there was no need to explain them to his foe.
Compared to Dormammu, the Phoenix, a top entity of the multiverse, proved much smarter. It transformed into a shadowy phoenix and swiftly fled while Clark was engaged with Dormammu, not hesitating for a moment.
After several setbacks, even this top entity of the multiverse began to reluctantly acknowledge Clark's formidable reputation.
Then, a young girl brimming with vigor intercepted the fleeing fifth of the Phoenix Force. The entire cosmos was filled with spatial bubbles and flying knives in an instant, and in a costly move that injured her severely but devastated her enemy, she completely obliterated the last of the Phoenix Force into the vast cosmos.
Even though her power had reached a universal scale, the intense burst left her visibly drained and disordered.
Seeing the young girl's flushed but triumphant face approaching, Clark couldn't help but smile fondly, "Lois, what brings you here?"
Lois stuck out her tongue playfully, "I wanted to see what was happening."
Clark turned back to the still-expanding space vortex, as the system's voice echoed in his mind: "Due to Dormammu's actions in opening a channel between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men Universe to fulfill his malevolent schemes, you are tasked with stopping him."
"Mission 4 activated: Prevent Dormammu's evil plan."
"Mission 5 activated: Eliminate Dormammu, the source of all these troubles, to prevent his continual scheming."
"Completing each mission will replenish your powers with dynamic energy. Keep going, host!"
Clark smirked at the system's prompt. As expected, the missions had arrived, and not just one but two.
"Dormammu has already begun to erode one universe but hasn't completed his consumption plan. Now, he wants to use that parallel universe as a stepping stone to devour ours," Clark explained calmly. "But don't worry, everything is under control. You all go back and gather the Avengers for preparation. I'll check out the situation on the other side."
"I want to come with you, Dad," Lois exclaimed, excited about the adventure. "I want to see what other parallel universes are like. Are they like you described, with many intelligent and speaking cute animals, like Spider-Ham?"
"There are no talking animals there, only mutants," Clark hesitated but agreed, "If you really want to go, then let's go together. With your current strength, hardly anyone there can pose a threat to you. If you encounter Dormammu, remember to keep your distance and let your unbeatable dad handle him."
"Daisy, notifying the Avengers is your task."
Daisy wanted to go too but knew her role was different from Lois's; she couldn't pull off the same antics. She nodded, and after making Clark promise to keep Lois safe, she let him use his spatial abilities to send her back to Earth. Although she could fly back herself, Clark worried she might get lost in the vast cosmos.
After sending Daisy off, Clark turned to Lois and jokingly said, "Ever since I first met you, I noticed you liked using flying knives. I've started to consider renaming you Lois Xunhuan."
Lois knew he was joking but still blinked her big eyes and asked, "What do you think, Dad, is the correct way to fight?"
Clark hesitated for a moment before shaking his head, "At your current level, the style of combat doesn't really matter that much anymore; what's important is your own state of mind and adaptability. You like using flying knives, you can continue with that. As for close combat, you might develop an energy shield or something similar. Since you follow the path of spatial abilities, distance is already your advantage."
Clark casually shared a few pointers about her combat style, then said, "Alright, let's go see what this other parallel universe is actually like. Stay close."
With those words, Clark stepped into the space vortex.
As he stepped through, the world transformed.
What greeted Clark was filled with memories of childhood—not his own, but those of the original owner of the body he now inhabited.
Clark was certain that he was now in Manhattan, New York, a place intimately familiar to his body's original owner.
The streets, the shops along the roadside, the attire of the pedestrians, and the designs of the cars were all steeped in the style of the 1980s. People from that time might have thought it was fashionable, but to Clark, it appeared rather outdated.
Of course, being slightly outdated wasn't really an issue. After all, they were in two entirely different parallel universes, and variations in the timeline were only to be expected.
What really made Clark uncomfortable was the pervasive thin layer of dark energy that seemed to permeate everywhere in this universe. This energy was unabashedly free in the air, constantly eroding the universe.
Under the influence of this dark energy, there was a slight malevolence on everyone around him, which was still very weak and not much of an issue for inherently good people.
But for those with malevolent intents or those overwhelmed by malevolence, the effect of this energy could catalyze unpredictable reactions, the extent of which even Clark couldn't be sure.
With Clark's current power, the dark energy floating in the air naturally couldn't affect him, but it was unusual that everyone else was affected while he remained unaffected.
Standing on the bustling street corner, his purity shone like a bright moon in the night, giving Clark a feeling of being the only sober person in a world of drunkards.
"Lois, don't you think this world isn't as fun as expected? Lois!" Clark casually remarked, only then realizing that Lois hadn't followed him as closely as he'd instructed.
This sudden change alarmed Clark, but he soon composed himself.
The timelines of the two worlds might be different, with varying speeds of time flow. Perhaps Lois was just a step behind him, but it might take her a week or even longer to arrive at the same location.
It was like with Thor in the original timeline, who was sent flying by Hela a few seconds after Loki but ended up arriving on Sakaar two weeks after Loki.
Clark expanded his psychic powers to envelop the entire Earth, a peculiar smile curling at his lips.
What had he discovered?
He found Lois! However, this Lois was not his daughter; the Lois that Clark's psychic scan revealed was just a regular mutant girl residing at a place called Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. She was dressed in a yellow casual outfit and denim shorts, typical of the 1980s style, including her big wavy perm, which fit perfectly into this world's time period.
Was this the counterpart of his daughter Lois in this universe?
It seemed that this universe's Lois was born at least forty to fifty years earlier than his own daughter.
