Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Red Queen and the Sun Staircase (Part 2)
In West Africa, nestled among the mountains, a tall and ancient castle stood atop an unnamed peak.
"It seems this is the place." After some preparations, Daniel Davis decided to meet the last remaining founder of Umbrella Corporation.
"Let's go." After carefully noting the castle's location, Daniel immediately opened a portal, and the two of them appeared at the corner of the castle wall.
"Let's take a look first." Daniel then opened a mirrored dimension to inspect the layout of the castle.
"It looks like there has been some chaos here." Through the mirrored dimension, it was clear that many parts of the castle showed signs of damage, with bloodstains and bullet holes visible everywhere.
"Four Ivan Tyrants, the security measures are quite impressive." After some observation, Daniel found that apart from Spencer, who was sitting in a wheelchair with an IV drip, and the four Ivan Tyrants, there were no other living people in the castle.
The Ivan Tyrants were Umbrella Corporation's most successful bio-weapons, able to maintain human form and understand commands, making them the best choice for bodyguards. The only problem was their high cost and maintenance, preventing them from becoming mass-produced bio-weapons and limiting them to protecting Umbrella's top executives.
"It's up to you." Daniel said as he opened a watermelon-sized portal in the wall. Ada then took out the prepared Barrett sniper rifle, set it up on the wall, and began aiming at the Ivan Tyrants outside.
In terms of utilizing the mirrored dimension and portals, Kamar-Taj's methods were too primitive. Even Kaecilius relied on magic against magic. However, Daniel believed that the combination of magic and technology was the most powerful. In this situation, it was unbeatable for assassination. Imagine opening a portal next to your head and taking a shot.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Four shots in quick succession. The four Ivan Tyrants were all shot in the head before they could even figure out where the attack came from.
After confirming the death of all the Ivan Tyrants, Daniel and Ada stepped out of the portal, appearing directly in front of the somewhat panicked Spencer.
"I'll check the surroundings." Before Daniel could speak, Ada said as she left.
In terms of perceptiveness, as a top agent, Ada was top-notch. She genuinely intended to check the surroundings since the mirrored dimension might overlook some details. But more importantly, Ada didn't want to disturb Daniel and Spencer's conversation. After all, Spencer was still the founder of Umbrella and might know some hidden secrets of the corporation.
Unlike Rebecca, Ada knew what questions to ask and which to avoid.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Despite being the founder of Umbrella, Spencer quickly regained his composure after the initial panic.
"It seems you're dying." Daniel glanced at Spencer's IV drip, then expanded the scope of his Op-Op Fruit ability, shaking his head as he spoke.
Spencer's body had long been failing. His continued survival was thanks to Umbrella's many years of research. Although the company faced repeated setbacks with bio-viruses, its derived pharmaceuticals kept its performance steadily rising. The IV drip contained a substance similar to vitality, allowing Spencer to cling to life. For an ordinary person, one bottle might be unaffordable for a lifetime, but Spencer needed it constantly.
"I will not die. I will never die." The word "death" seemed to trigger Spencer, causing him to go berserk.
"I could have become a god. They are the ones, they are the ones who stopped me. I could have become an immortal god."
"An immortal god, how ridiculous." Watching Spencer's manic state, Daniel shook his head helplessly. Even Odin, powerful as he was, ultimately died.
"I came here to see you die. By the way, I forgot to tell you, I'm a survivor of Raccoon City." Perhaps the mention of Raccoon City made Spencer regain his composure.
"You're here to kill me."
"Exactly." Daniel said as he pulled out Spencer's IV.
Spencer tried to stand up and stop Daniel, but Daniel swiftly dodged, causing Spencer to fall to the ground. Already weak, Spencer's breath grew increasingly faint after the fall.
If it were someone else, like Rebecca, Sherry, or Coulson, they would pity Spencer and might even take him to a hospital. But unfortunately for Spencer, Daniel did not share their compassion.
Compassion, or rather kindness, is a good quality, but in reality, most people despise such individuals, Daniel included. He respected genuinely kind people but stayed away from those with a "saintly" disposition, as they often harmed their allies more than anyone else.
Forgiving villains for their deeds often led to more harm, causing Daniel to question such "saintly" people. Was reforming villains worth more lives? Ultimately, this so-called compassion was mere self-gratification, ignoring the consequences for others.
"He's about to die, better ask now." Seeing Spencer's weakening state, Daniel decided to use his Op-Op Fruit to hypnotize Spencer.
"What? The serum used on Captain America was developed using the Progenitor Virus?" Daniel was shocked by the revelation.
"It actually makes sense." Upon further reflection, Daniel realized the possibility. The origins of Red Skull's and Captain America's serums had always been a mystery.
"Maybe I can use the quantum tunnel to observe the moment Captain America appeared and see how it was done." Captain America's strength wasn't just due to the serum but also the method of administration. Red Skull simply injected it, but Captain America had auxiliary drugs and half of New York's electricity for catalysis. This had never been replicated, not even by Daniel.
"So that's the origin of the Sun Staircase, quite surprising." After obtaining the information he wanted, Daniel left Spencer to his fate.
Perhaps because of his era, Spencer's residence lacked modern touches, filled instead with a classical atmosphere.
After throwing Spencer's body and the four Ivan Tyrants' corpses into the mirrored dimension, Daniel walked out of the castle. Ada was waiting outside with a box in hand.
"Let's go."
