Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The Realm of Annihilation

Richard felt a sinking sensation in his heart. Was his spell research doomed to fail before it even began?

But then he saw Jolord raise his hand, and a thick magic book flew off the shelf.

"This is my experimental notebook from when I studied the Water-Fire Annihilation spell. It contains the original spell model and some of my failed improvement attempts," Jolord said, handing the magic book to Richard with a solemn expression. "Study it well. It's not to discourage you, but what you can think of, most wizards have already considered. You're still an apprentice and lack experience."

Richard accepted the magic book with both hands and bowed to Jolord, his expression serious.

All knowledge passed down is worthy of respect.

Back in his room, Richard immediately opened the magic book to study the spell.

The original version of the Water-Fire Annihilation spell was called the Realm of Annihilation. Its use was straightforward: summon two elements, compress them, and then let them react.

The spell consumed a significant amount of energy, enough to drain a mid-level apprentice with thirty mental power in one go.

But its power was also astounding.

If fully unleashed, the spell could reach a power level of a thousand energy units at its epicenter.

And this was merely the spell's limit, not the limit of the reaction itself. Increasing the amount of both elements could amplify its power further.

"For an apprentice, isn't this a bit overpowered?"

Richard read through the notes, his lips twitching slightly.

However, he soon discovered the spell's drawbacks.

Although the Realm of Annihilation was powerful, its energy release was chaotic, similar to a magic missile. This meant its power, while immense, decayed rapidly. Beyond a meter from the center, its power fell to a hundred energy units, and beyond three meters, only a shockwave remained.

Additionally, the spell was highly unstable.

The concentrated fire element was volatile, and even slight magical fluctuations could trigger a premature release or spell failure.

These factors made the spell impractical, useful only for mutual destruction. No one would wield such a volatile bomb in battle.

Jolord's notes documented his attempts to improve the spell by restraining the explosive energy and using runes to stabilize the fire element.

Despite various approaches, the results were unsatisfactory.

The modified spell, based on its energy consumption, could be replaced by other, more powerful and stable spells.

"So improving the runes doesn't seem viable," Richard thought after reviewing the notes, scratching his head. "But why should I focus on runes?"

As a transmigrator, Richard's thinking was more flexible than his peers in the wizarding world.

The clash of different civilizations often allowed him to see what others couldn't.

"This thing is essentially compressing two elements and colliding them to release power. It's not that different from a bomb detonated by a blasting cap."

Richard grabbed a sheet of paper and sketched a rough diagram.

"Fire elements are unstable and magically taxing to contain, so why not use physical materials instead? Two chambers, one for water elements and one for fire elements, separated in the middle..."

Richard translated his ideas onto paper, tweaking the design.

Eventually, a wizard's version of a hand grenade emerged on the page.

"Done."

Richard tossed his pen aside, satisfied with the rough blueprint.

Though it was merely a concept, and the final product might differ in appearance, it didn't dampen Richard's excitement.

Bringing elements from the other world into the wizarding world always gave him a forbidden thrill.

With an idea in mind, Richard immediately set out to implement it.

He compiled a list for his designated procurer, Kevin, instructing him to gather materials in the commercial district. Meanwhile, Richard began deconstructing the spell, isolating the two elemental compression spells.

After a year of studying the elemental school, Richard decided to test his skills and see how much he'd learned. If he hit a wall, he'd seek Ellie's assistance.

Time flew by, and another year passed.

In the morning, Richard routinely went to the training room for his Body of Adaptation exercises.

Since his first adaptation, Richard's progress had steadily increased by 0.01 energy units per day. With continued training, this rate had risen to 0.015 over the past year.

At this pace, by the next blood exam, he would be immune to spells below fifty energy units of fire, lightning, and ice.

Per usual, Richard entered the freezing chamber to train. Six energy units of freezing damage began eroding his body. But before long, he noticed the chamber warming.

"Did I adapt again?" Richard wondered, puzzled.

He opened the chamber for inspection and discovered that the magic stones had run out.

With no power, the freezer naturally couldn't cool.

Seeing the slot for magic stones, Richard prepared to refill it but was startled upon checking his pocket.

"Why do I only have a little over a thousand magic stones left?" Richard muttered, his expression dark.

As a model apprentice, Richard didn't indulge in any particularly costly habits. Yet, despite being one of the highest earners in the academy, his wealth had dwindled to just over a thousand stones.

How was he any different from ordinary apprentices who had to count every stone for spellcasting?

"No, where did all my magic stones go?"

Richard, weighed down by his dwindling finances, lost his motivation to train and returned to his room to audit his expenses.

Upon reviewing his finances, Richard realized he'd been spending money like water over the past year.

Besides the monthly hundred stones he paid to the Flame Giant, he had spent over five thousand stones selecting materials for the wizard grenade. Additionally, there were daily costs for adaptation potions, recovery potions, physical enhancement potion production, books, crafting small magical devices for practice, and daily living expenses.

These scattered expenses collectively caused a dramatic reduction in Richard's wealth, despite his monthly income of over three hundred stones.

"It seems I'll have to sell a couple of physical enhancement potions. Also, I'll need to increase the output of focus potions."

Richard pinched the bridge of his nose. Over the past few months, he'd successfully brewed several enhancement potions.

Originally, he planned to sell these potions privately, expanding his network and providing benefits to friends.

But facing impending bankruptcy, those plans had to be shelved.

"Increasing output... sigh! It might cause trouble."
