Chapter 78: Seventy Eight
Next morning.
At school.
"Julie!" Casey yelled my name and almost made me drop my books when she surprised me.
"What the hell, Casey?"
"Sorry," She smiled and brought her face to mine."Did you tell him what you wanted?"
"Casey," I looked around."Shh." I slapped my forehead with my palm. I couldn't believe I had told her about me and Uche. And I hadn't even told my aunt. I had changed my mind. That reminds me, I have to ask Uche not to mention it to any of his friends anymore.
"Hi Julie," April walked past us and said hi to me like we were besties. I didn't greet back. I was too surprised to do so.
"You look happy, so I'm guessing you told him what you wanted him to do to you?" Casey ignored April like I did to ask.
"Well..." I bit my lips.
"Eeeeeee," Casey squealed excitedly."You guys fucked?"
"Casey!" I whispered to remind her to lower her voice.
"Sorry," she whispered back.
"Does it always feel that good, or is only that way when you like the person? Like I like him?"
"It's usually the hormones, but liking the person also adds," she stood and looked into nothing for a while like she just remembered something. Someone? Nick? Ew.
"Ew," I voiced my thoughts to her. I didn't like to imagine Nick doing the things Uche did to me yesterday to her.
"What?" She laughed. I found myself laughing too. Uche joined us and kissed my ear from behind.
"Uche?" I turned around with my eyes widened at him."Don't do that, we're at school."
"You said I could..." He wanted to remind me how I said I didn't mind if everyone found out.
"I changed my mind." I cut him short and watched him make a sad face.
"Well, Casey knows now," he sighed.
"She won't tell anyone. Will you, Casey?" I asked her.
"Nope, my lips are zipped," Casey shook her head dramatically, I rolled my eyes.
"Where's Nick," Casey didn't miss the chance to ask Uche.
"I don't know, probably in class already." Uche answered while subconsciously fixing my hair which he had disheveled a little after he hugged me from behind.
I stopped him and he feigned a sad face at me. I rolled my eyes and wanted to leave him before he brought more attention to us.
"C'mon, let's go Casey." I told her and began walking away but Uche drew me back to him.
"Go. She'll join you soon." He told Casey and I watched her skip away. She was supposed to say no to that. I think. Not abandon me to him and his cuteness.
"Ucheeee," I wanted him to let me go before someone saw us.
"You were gonna leave without even saying anything. Just c'mon, let's go Casey. Are you angry that I hugged you like that in front of her?"
"No." I freed my hand from his and gave him a little, unsuspicious distance."Casey already knew, she found out yesterday so I'm not angry at you. I just don't want anyone to see us being all close and stuff here."
"Just that?" He asked and I nodded."I wish I was invincible. That way, I could be around you as much as I wanted without anyone seeing me with you."
"..." I almost gave him a peck on the lips for saying that but I couldn't, I remembered where we were.
"Uche!" One of his friends called from a few lockers away. He turned his head in that direction and then hissed, ignoring the call and looking back at me.
"He sounded like he had something important for you," I told him but heard him snort.
"You just wanna leave me," he leaned in."A quick kiss and you can go."
"Your friends coming over here, Uche," I told him, in case he hadn't noticed.
"I know. Kiss me before he gets here."
"I'll get you back for this, just wait," I forced a frown and pecked his lips quickly before his friend came.
"The principal wants you in her office. Your dad's here too." The boy rushed through his words once he got to us.
"What?" I saw Uche's smile fade.
"Your dad's here, bro. I think they called him. The principal asked me to get you to her office. Now."
Uche ran his hands through his hair, gave me a worried look before leaving with his friend. I stood idle for a while, wondering if to go with him.
"Miss Thompson," It was our class teacher."Are you gonna join us in class, or can't you hear the bell?"
"Good morning, sir." I just said and clutched my book tight before walking into class.
After about seven minutes, the principal's voice came from the announcer. She was asking that I report to her office. I looked at the teacher and he gave me the 'you can leave' look.
I was at the principal's office door when I heard Uche's voice. "I didn't do it," he was telling them.
I knocked slightly on the door before going in. The office became quiet after I walked in. Uche's dad was really there, and Nathan's parents took. My aunt was nowhere to be seen; they didn't call her today. I became worried.
"Mr Okonkwo, this is Julie..." The principal hot out her seat and introduced me to Uche's dad.
"I know Julie," Uche's dad nodded to know where she was headed with her introduction.
"From all the information we have, we think Julie here might be the reason behind Uche's threat to Nathan."
"I didn't threaten nobody," Uche chirped in before the principal could say anything more.
"We found a note with your sons handwriting in Nathan's locker, asking him to stay away from Julie as she is his." The principal explained further and I saw Uche's father give him a questioning look.
"Uchenna," Uche's dad called with a solemn voice.
"Dad," Uche answered.
"Did you threaten their son?"
"No dad."
"But you left a letter like your principal is saying?"
"Yes, but it wasn't a threat. I just..."
"Did you hit their son?"
"No dad. Why would I? I didn't even get to know if he read that shit before I heard he was in the hospital."
"Language," the principal reminded him but he just hissed, annoyed.
"I trust my son, if he says he didn't do it then he do it. I believe him." Uche's dad spoke again. He wasn't very convincing when he stood by Uche's side but at least, he believed him, I guess.
"Mr Okonkwo, Nathan's parents will be involving the police once they leave this office. It's why I asked you here, for you to have knowledge of everything. I asked Uche to let you know but I guess he did not do that..." The principal turned to Uche and sighed.
She then went closer to Uche's dad and spoke in a hushed voice,"Know if you can talk to him, to find out more and know if he's really being honest, for his sake and for the sake of the school. I really do not want the police to get involved in this."
"Okay." Uche's dad just nodded."I'll be leaving now, I need to be back in the city in two hours, excuse me." He excused himself and went for the door."Uche," he called for Uche to go with him.
Uche stopped when he got to where I stood. I wanted him to just walk by and not say anything because he dad was watching and thankfully he did that. He went out with his dad.
I looked up to meet Nathan's mum staring at me angrily. It made me uneasy so I asked the principal if I could leave and she nodded.
