A protagonist that uses their mind? Absolutely not! I mean, they aren't even a living being, technically, and they certainly aren't biological in origin. While this story is tagged as a gender bender, the protagonist is non-binary/gender fluid. What this means is that the pronoun usage is irrelevant in terms of telling the actual story. The pronoun choices made are simply a reflection of the isolated main character's perception of self based on its own understanding of the world, just as the individual inside Plato's cave, would have no understanding of being male or female.
This short story was also inspired by the Chinese novel "Journey to the West" (also known by the titles "Monkey" and "The Monkey King") credited as being written by Wu Cheng'en.
