Chapter 3: Summoning

Chapter 3: Summoning

-----------------------------------------------

“To make progress, you need to make sacrifice. The best decision which can be made, is one that results in the most progress, with the least sacrifice.”

--POV: Clarrisa Chamberlayne—

--Place: Valley of the Summoning  / Time: 19:34—

Inside a building situated in the middle of the valley, my destination. I immediately order the setup of the summoning, with my maids and butlers bringing in all the artefacts and equipment necessary, and the mercs watching like this is some kind of entertainment.

Then again, this whole operation is based on a myth I read about in the royal library. I hope it works, and if it does, the next step is establishing immediate communication with the being that will be summoned. Hopefully, something that won’t kill me.

“We are finished, Mistress” A maid rushes over and bows as she says that. But I don’t pay her any heed, my eyes staring at the summoning circle with millions of runes and symbols forming.

The summoning circle starts blinking, each time getting faster and faster. Until, it stops, shining so bright.

*Boom*

For a moment, the light envelopes the whole room. So strong that I have to place my hands on my eyes, to block it.

After the light dies down, I turn my attention back to the summoning circle, only to see it gone, and in it’s place is a man.

Upon closer inspection, this is a young man, around 20 years old in age (from his appearance). His face is perfectly symmetrically, with a jawline many would envy, and beautiful black hair that has a blue glow under the moonlight.

“Gasp..”

A maid gasps, and I know why, its because of his….

eyes.

His eyes are bright aqua, to the point it is unnatural. But most importantly, his pupils are slits. They are colder than ice. His eyes that were previously looking around the room turn to me.

“Hello there.” Mana-infused voice. Holy shit, this is bad. I can’t even sense him from where I’m standing. If I couldn’t see him there, I wouldn’t have believed there was anyone standing in his position.

“Nice to meet you” I reply as calmly as possible. He raises an eyebrow, did he not expect this reply?

“I’m Laurence, pleased to make your acquaintance, how about you introduce yourself” He looks at me with calm, collected eyes. Shouldn’t he be more surprised of the situation?

“Clarrisa Chamberlayne” I give a courteous bow, if my instincts are correct, he is way stronger than me.

“Hey, prick!!” The captain moves forward from his crowd of hooligans and stands next me. “Shouldn’t you be on your knees, pretty boy? Hahaha” The captain then proceeds to laugh along with his friends, does he think this is a joke? “He is dangerous Clarrisa, but don’t worry, I’ll protect you” The captain then places his hand on my shoulder, and then starts caressing it.

“Get away from me, you animal” I start burning his hand that is in contact with my shoulder with a simple flame spell.

“Ahhh ahh, what are you doing?!!” He yells as he waves his arm in the air, trying to blow out flame by moving quickly.

‘You responsible for this?’ I hear a voice in my head, as the captain is running to his friends, trying to get rid of the fire burning his arm off, but it is no use.

There is no use lying to the man in front of me, if Laurence is interrogating everyone telepathically as he is doing to me. They will all say I am the person who caused this summoning ‘Yes..I am’

‘Pretty rude, don’t you think? Summoning someone for your own benefit and goals, without any warning or consultation’ What does he want?

He is clearly leading me to something, does he want to return? What if I tell him I can’t do it? Would he kill me?

‘I will compensate you for this inconvenience, you have my word’

‘Mhmm…How about you prove it?’

‘Prove it?’

‘Yes, everyone here other than you and me….Kill them’

He wants me to kill them? Everyone here is expendable and replaceable. But the question is…why? Does he want me to do this as a show of trust? If I were to fight him, everyone here would be nothing more than obstacles in my way, their only use is being meat shields. More importantly, he knows I am stronger than everyone else here, he has seen through my strength.

Better than nothing.

I raise my hand, and soon a tornado starts forming with me in the centre, the winds moving faster and faster. I concentrate, and in a second, wind blades form around the throats of all the servants, the burning captain, and his pathetic group. Causing their heads to detach off their bodies, their bodies fall on the floor, with the scent of blood permitting the air.

“You are pretty ruthless” He says, flashing a dazzling smile on his once expressionless face.

“I have been called that before” Don’t confirm or deny.

“Are you a noble?” His smile disappears as if it have never been there.

He figured it out with all of my maids and butlers everywhere on the ground, dead, no use denying it. “Yes I am” He furrows his brows, probably demanding more explanation. “I am the third daughter of Marquis Chamberlyane’s Household”

“I see, so what do you want?”

Mhmm…..

Hmmmm….?

Hah? Is he really asking me this?

“I want you to help me become the heir to the marquis” Even though I said it in a whisper, there is no doubt he heard it.

“hmmm? Hahaha” After raising an eye brow, he starts laughing, like he never heard a funnier joke.
