Chapter 53 - Attacked (2)
When An Yun’s heart beat wildly, he watched out of the corner of his eye as Zang Ya put on the mask of the Rakshasa ghost but didn’t wear it properly, with some strands of hair sticking out around the edges.
The mask that was supposed to be scary seemed to become less intimidating because Zang Ya wore it.
Without any hesitation, An Yun stretched out his hand to smooth it down for him. When he realized what he had done, he froze in place.
Seeing that An Yun, who had been fine just a moment ago, was standing there motionless again, Zang Ya looked up at him with a hint of questioning in his eyes.
In response, An Yun kept reminding himself up in his mind. He told himself that he was just Zang Ya’s pet, and it was normal for pets to groom their masters.
An Yun prepared himself mentally and was about to say something to Zang Ya to ease the strange atmosphere when he was just arranging his hair. Suddenly, he heard the sound of gongs not far away.
After the sound of gongs and drums, a burst of melodious music followed. The music was loud but not harsh to the ears.
The sound was clearly coming in their direction, and the closer it got, the clearer they could hear it.
The people around were also attracted by the performance, all looking in the direction of the sound, and An Yun was no exception.
Then, An Yun saw a bold and colourful dancer dancing to clear the way, followed by a float that was as high as one story. The women on the float were carefully selected, and their clothes and movements were extremely alluring. A group of people came over in a lively manner, singing and dancing.
An Yun watched their energetic performance as the people on the float scattered flower petals and candies while walking, allowing those around to grab them.
The already lively festival suddenly became even more vibrant due to the increasingly rich atmosphere.
An Yun had rarely had such a chance to join in the excitement in his previous life. Looking at the bustle around him, he couldn’t help but feel happy. He even wanted to follow the people next to him when the float came over, longing to participate in this lively festival and be part of the joy brought by the sprinkled petals and candies.
Who would have thought that when the float passed by, the woman standing at the top pulled a bouquet from the flower column next to her and threw it straight toward An Yun?
As the bouquet flew through the air, the dancers who were supposed to be performing in front quietly gathered in An Yun’s direction.
An Yun looked at the bouquet coming toward him, and before he had time to react, he saw it being knocked away by something, falling to the open space not far away and exploding in a burst of fireworks.
An Yun’s eyes widened, and he wanted to ask Zang Ya what was going on. Who knew that just as he turned his head, his body was pulled away, and he hit a warm chest?
Screams filled the air around him. Before An Yun could grasp what was happening, someone splashed warm liquid on his face.
An Yun didn’t even have time to reach up and touch his face to see what had been splashed on him; he was picked up into the air and spun around, landing in an empty seat in the corner.
“Protect him! Call someone!” came a shout.
During the commotion, An Yun’s mask, which had already been unstable, suddenly fell off.
An Yun had no time to pick up the mask, as two groups of people holding swords confronted each other in front of him. One group consisted of the dancers who had been performing just moments ago, while the other group included Zang Ya and his guards.
He looked at the dancing girls who fought Zang Ya with swords, their attacks particularly ruthless. An Yun understood immediately that these people were obviously there to kill Zang Ya.
An Yun didn’t know why things had suddenly turned out this way and felt extremely anxious.
This time, Zang Ya had come out with only four guards, making it obvious that it was very difficult to face the siege of dozens of attackers.
Just as An Yun worried, the attendant guarding him took out a flare from his pocket and pulled the string.
The signal flare soared into the sky, blooming with brilliant colours.
The signal flare was not only seen by Zang Ya but also by the attacking opponents.
Knowing that the city defence team was about to arrive, their offensive became fiercer, as if they were risking their lives.
An Yun looked on beside him, extremely anxious but feeling powerless. At that moment, Zang Ya’s arm was slashed by an unknown attacker.
An Yun quickly pushed the attendant next to him and said, “Go and help him! I can wait alone here; rescue will come soon. The young master is more important than me. Go.”
As he watched, An Yun finally realized that these attackers simply wanted Zang Ya dead, but unfortunately, they underestimated Zang Ya’s fighting power.
The attendant hesitated for a moment but decided to follow An Yun’s words and joined the battle.
An Yun knew he couldn’t help. All he could do now was protect himself and wait for Zang Ya and the others to deal with these attackers.
Looking around, An Yun found a corner. He felt that he would be safer if he hid there and blocked it with a nearby wooden board.
When An Yun quietly moved, one of the assassins recognized An Yun, knowing he was with Zang Ya. The assassin broke away from the group, approached An Yun, and struck at him with his sword.
However, An Yun quickly grabbed a wooden board from the side and raised it to block his head.
The assassin’s sword struck down and got stuck directly in the wooden board.
Reacting quickly, the assassin tried to pull out his sword to continue attacking An Yun. But just as he withdrew his weapon, a long sword pierced his chest.
As the sword was retracted, the assassin fell straight down, kneeling on the ground, dying with his eyes open.
An Yun opened his eyes tremblingly and faced Zang Ya, who was covered in blood and looked at him indifferently. “Hide yourself!” he ordered.
An Yun nodded obediently, huddling in the corner, never showing himself again.
Time passed little by little, and Zang Ya and his reinforcements were about to arrive. Aside from injuring Zang Ya slightly, the attackers realized they could not kill him at all. Instead, their numbers gradually dwindled, and they grew increasingly frantic.
However, no matter how wildly they attacked, Zang Ya’s side successfully blocked their assaults. Their attacks were like ants trying to shake a tree.
On the contrary, Zang Ya was like a god of death, able to reap lives with just a raise of his hand.
Seeing that their attacks could not sustain for much longer, the remaining attackers no longer wished to continue fighting especially with the city defence team coming.
“Retreat!” the leader commanded, and the rest complied.
The leader gritted his teeth, thinking that if he failed this time, there would be a next time. However, before he could take a few steps, a sword pierced through his chest, and he fell to the ground.
Before he died, the team leader looked at the wound on his chest with disbelief.
Zang Ya pulled his sword from the leader’s body, pushed the blood-stained mask to his forehead, and looked at the remaining attackers with a contemptuous smile.
Zang Ya stood among the dead assassins, surrounded by corpses, towering high and looking down scornfully at everything beneath him.
An Yun hid in the corner, staring at the scene, feeling so terrified that he couldn’t help but shrink back, trying to reduce his presence.
An Yun was now extremely grateful that he was timid and aware of current affairs. He would never have thought of opposing Zang Ya; otherwise, his body would have been cold long ago.
With the death of the leader, the remaining assassins trying to escape were also surrounded by the city guards who rushed over, and none of them managed to get away.
After taking the attackers down, the city guards approached Zang Ya with a humble and submissive attitude, speaking cautiously, “I arrived late to save the young master and allowed such rogues to sneak in. I hope the young master will punish me!”
Zang Ya glanced at him and sneered, “We’ll talk about punishing you later. What you must do now is find out the details of these people and tell me their origins.”
“Yes!” the guard replied.
