Chapter 116: Chapter 116
Banri watched Chachamaru rush to Ryukushu who got ready when the feline got closer. Be careful this man is dangerous. Why did things have to be this way? All this for a meteorite.
"What do you think you're doing you pathetic whim? I have more important things to do than to push you around." Ryukushu stood away from the marks that he wasn't done finalizing yet.
Chachamaru ran into Ryukushu who grabbed the feline's shoulders and pushed him away from the markings. With enough strength to resist the towering samurai's grip, Chachamaru fought back and pushed Ryukushu towards the markings so the feline can get closer to it and make the necessary changes to the engravement.
Though he didn't know how to. Now that the both of them were pushing each other around, Chachamaru noticed the engravement was immune to damages. The only one who could interfere with its state was Ryukushu, he used his sword to draw it out.
Which means Chachamaru was in a rather awful situation now, he had to make sure Ryukushu doesn't complete the extension of those markings while also preventing himself from getting killed right here.
Douma held on to his fans tightly in case Ryukushu decided to do the unexpected which would cost everyone's life since they were the most vulnerable to the samurai's attacks. The engravement has to be destroyed no matter what.
The blonde watched the feline struggling to keep up with Ryukushu's strength. Observing the tiredness dawn over Chachamaru, the towering samurai took this as an opportunity to push the feline towards the engravement, shattering the atmosphere where the markings were engraved.
"Since you want to break it so bad, here you go!" Ryukushu roared as Chachamaru couldn't bear the static from the opening in the atmosphere. "I can always carve a new one!"
Chachamaru's eyes turned to slits as he grabbed Ryukushu's wrist and pushed himself away from the engravement. He spun around with Ryukushu still gripping onto his shoulders and picked up the pace in the direction of the shattered engravement that was almost unrecognizable.
Ryukushu was met with static and shattered pieces toppling behind him. Chachamaru pushed the giant samurai towards the small cracks and opening, watching him struggle to break free from Chachamaru's hold.
"That's what you get for trying to mess with our friends and the innocent people out there!" The feline shouted, he couldn't bear to watch Shinobu and Yushiro suffer under the hands of such a horrible supposedly dead human being who lacked a conscience.
Good job Chachamaru. Teach that monster a lesson. Douma was glad Shinobu and Yushiro were safe. That engravement was awfully worrying.
The samurai was flung away by the explosions caused by the static in shattered carving, he took a while to get up. Mumbling to himself about how insufferable Chachamaru was.
Chachamaru tore the engravement, enduring the pain that came along with it. Soon the atmosphere returned to normal.
The aching pain spread throughout the left side of Chachamaru's body, from his neck down to his foot. He had been experiencing these chronic effects ever since he got into contact with the static. As much as he hoped Ryukushu would stay down, that wasn't the case.
"Genkakuna Jiritsu-sei Style Two: Tamashī no naka ni aru kyōfu!" Ryukushu sprinted towards Chachamaru with his sword summoning the familiar streaks from before and countless entities like the ghostly monsters from earlier. He could feel the intense fear overwhelming him, at some point he couldn't move however after some internal conflict with his mind and emotions, he was able to move his limbs again.
Chachamaru groaned at the pain in his left foot. He still had to move, his body had to fight the seething pain.
Ryukushu needed to embrace the ground again, with a punch. Chachamaru couldn't throw a punch with his left fist for now but he still had his sturdy right fist that was ready to land the last blow.
This is it. Slowly the Chachamaru began running towards Ryukushu, his left foot keeping up with his energy and speed in the process. He passed by the entities and dark streaks that obstructed his path for a while. They desperately tried to get him away from their master but to no avail as Chachamaru sliced through them with his claws.
The samurai who was standing there hoping the last of the entities would take care of Chachamaru seemed to be taking things too lightly because of the feline's condition, as Chachamaru sprang up from the cloud of smoke forming in the air and landed a hard punch on Ryukushu's face, sending him flying back in shock.
"Yeah now that's a victory for me!" Chachamaru said proudly with his hands on his hips, the sudden sharp pain in his left foot diverting his attention.
Meanwhile, Akagi, Kurai and the troops were still fighting the bandits, a few of them remaining and desperately trying to drive out the group from the forest with their knives and any weapon or item they could find.
When most of the bandits were out of the way, Akagi checked on the tents to see if there were more hiding or there was anything they needed to find for their investigation.
There was this particular tent that caught his attention, it was quiet for some reason. When Akagi checked, he saw a few men tied up against the wall, one of them who was taller and muscular looking down at the ground in grief. He looked to be the bandit's actual leader, what a betrayal. The man must be very disappointed.
Douma was about to help Chachamaru get to a safe spot and recover from his injuries when Ryukushu rose from the ground and glared at them.
"What the..." After all that the samurai still wasn't backing down? They were going to be stuck here for a long time if that's the case and Douma didn't want that to happen. The mission was never meant to turn out like this.
"Dammit. This guy is still standing?!" Chachamaru choked on his words, he needed rest but Ryukushu wouldn't let him as long as he got his revenge.
Banri was shocked too, he really wanted to get off this island and go back to his duties as an organizer at Dice and Roll Valley. This was too much to deal with.
Ryukushu dashed towards Chachamaru who blocked his sword with his claws, pushing Ryukushu away.
When Chachamaru prepared for Ryukushu's next attack, the samurai took on a new appearance, his body morphed into that of a person in a discrete mask that only showed one of his eyes, the other a dark orb with a white glow that stared at the feline too.
Douma and Chachamaru couldn't tell if this was Ryukushu, he might have changed forms, but there was something off about this. Whoever this person was, possessed a completely different power that was so overwhelming to the point the rest of the group's ears were ringing.
The strange individual turned around and stared at Douma and Chachamaru unsettlingly. He twist and cracked his bones to put them in place. The masked individual took a few steps towards them adjusting his cloak and sashes over his neck.
His appearance was clearer now. It looked as if Ryukushu had transformed into a completely different person, but maybe this wasn't really him. The vibes were two sides of the same coin, same body but different individuals altogether. Douma and Chachamaru stood their ground when this new visitor got closer.
"Who are you..." One of the bandits said in fear. "Ryukushu... where is he?"
"Our leader, what happened to him?" Another one demanded to know the answer to their question.
The new visitor raised his arm and snapped his fingers to get everyone's attention. Douma had a bad feeling about this, he sensed something amidst about this person. He wasn't from the human world, if he traveled all the way here that means he was up to something, and it couldn't be anything good if Ryukushu was acting as a substitute for his plans.
"The paradox of the human world called for me and here I am looking for that exact offer I've sought to find." The man said, his white and black hair gaining the attention of the remaining bandits who noticed the change in their leader's appearance from afar.
"What are you looking for? I think you're at the wrong place." Chachamaru said, nearly choking on his words from the continuous pain.
"Who are you?" Douma asked sternly, he knew this man wasn't someone to gladly welcome here, there's a reason he came all the way here from wherever he came from but if he starts explaining who he is, then maybe Douma might have a clue about his motives.
The man rotated the shackles he wore on his wrists for a while. He then turned around and spoke. "I am Chaos, the core of the paradox's existence and the one who resides in its depths."
Chachamaru glimpsed at Douma who was keeping watch on the man in front of them. "That's... insanely fascinating. Get it? Wow there sure is a lot of interesting people here, particularly on this island."
Whatever happens, we mustn't let our guard down. Chaos is still observing us, he is clearly here for a reason and it can't be good. Douma held his fans closely, waiting for Chaos to step off from his spot so the blonde could prepare everyone for this next stage.
"Now where do I start, this island has a lot to offer, I'm sure of it." Chaos looked around for a while, searching for something in particular.
"This growing power can't stay in one place I'm afraid. As of right now, it's looking for a new home and I'm not the one sheltering it."
The angel stepped forward with his fans in his hold. "We have nothing to offer you. Try looking someplace else." He said narrowing his eyes at the man who looked disappointed but it seemed to be a facade.
"What is this guy talking about?" Akagi found this eerily disturbing, Kurai and the troops had no words to describe this bizarre encounter.
"I don't need your offers, requests are off the list. I'm the one who decides who will become the host of my power." Chaos said, facing the entire group.
"Host your power? What's that supposed to mean..." Chachamaru's heart started racing, it sounded like a good and bad thing. To earn some sacred power but on the other hand Chaos made it seem as though there was no choice despite the repercussions this process came with.
Chaos immediately glanced at Chachamaru. "As I transition to the next form with this power, I will need a volunteer to support the cocoon I will turn into." The man said facing Akagi and the others who came to the realization about what Chaos was talking about. He embraced the looks of horror from every corner. "This power is constantly building up within me, demanding I find a host as soon as possible. There's not much time, I need to make a decision."
"Don't even think of finding one here. Why would you travel all the way here for that anyway? Nobody is able to possess that kind of power you should know that by now." Douma could sense the fragility of his own group within the presence of this paradoxical entity. They were a fiddle compared to what this entity could do. If only he could tell the others to move away from Chaos but that show him their inferiority to his decision which would serve as an advantage for him.
Silence. Chaos ignored what Douma said and thought about his plans. He knew the angel would get in the way and clearly heard his warnings, the paradoxical entity just had nothing else to add to this fury.
Until he shifted his foot and darted towards Chachamaru who blocked the entity's long nails that nearly lifted him off the ground.
"Look out!" Two of the troops who were standing behind Akagi and Kurai ran to Chaos with their weapons ready. The entity spun around and moved to the center waiting patiently for the new guests to arrive.
Douma wanted to stop Chachamaru and the two troops from continuing the battle but it was too late. Even Banri didn't want him to step in it wouldn't change anything they had to fight their way out of the ring.
Chaos stretched out both of his arms near the troops who were approaching him from each corner and extended his long nails towards them.
One of the group's comrades got impaled in the torso by Chaos' unsettling long nails that were crooked and sharp like needles.
Akagi and Kurai watched in fear as their teammate fell to the ground unconscious, the other managed to get away before the metallic nails got to him too. Now this particular group was left with only eight people which included Douma, Chachamaru, and Banri. They haven't seen Bunta and the others which raised a lot of concern given the situation.
Chachamaru growled and ran towards Chaos who unleashed a plethora of spores that slowed the feline down when he got close. The paradoxical entity flew out of the way and fired dark shards at Chachamaru who staggered away when they descended.
Douma leaped up and struck Chaos' extended nails with his fan. The entity shoved him away with a strand of particles similar to the spores that were constricting Chachamaru's movements on the ground.
With Chachamaru unable to defend himself, Chaos immediately darted down towards the feline and thrashed his long metallic nails at him. Chachamaru swatted Chaos who was too fast that he didn't realize the entity was heading towards him again.
When Chaos flew into Chachamaru again he took a bite out of the side of the feline's abdomen, causing him to scream from the intensity of the pain.
Licking the blood dripping from his eerie-looking mouth that definitely wasn't that of a human's, the entity turned around and stared at the group with wide eyes, putting the lower part of his mask back in place. Akagi feeling incredibly disturbed by these occurrences. He wanted to return to Atlas, alive and well.
Chachamaru clutched the side of his abdomen in pain, the blood wouldn't stop flowing and he didn't have the energy to continue fighting anymore. He desperately looked in every corner for a place where he could take a break.
"This guy... what is he...?" The feline was about to collapse.
Douma charged at Chaos who flew to the air and summoned a dark orb engulfed in static. He threw it at the bandits' encampment, anticipating everybody's reactions.
"Radiance!" The blonde unleashed his swift radiating air slash that collided with the dark orb, resulting in an outward explosion that created a strong gust of wind blowing away debris, vegetation, and light objects.
About a distance away, the wind cleared the particles that buried an ancient temple, revealing the entrance and the broad entirety of it with vines hanging from the top and carved texts on the walls and pillars.
The energy source that remained after the explosion turned into a large violent bull with malevolent red eyes that rampaged the encampment when it landed on the ground. Chaos watched the bull run into people who were screaming for their lives. That's more like it.
"Chachamaru are you alright?" Douma helped the feline stand upright.
"We have to stop him." Chachamaru rasped, clutching his bleeding wound.
Akagi and Kurai ran after the bull. "I'll take care of this animal, don't let the bandits get away!" Akagi told the rest of the group, putting on his shades again as he ran off towards the destruction of the encampment.
The entity landed on the forest floor and pointed at the injured Chachamaru. "Now that's what I call a worthy host."
Douma looked up while supporting Chachamaru who was breathing heavily, the feline was about to fall to the ground any minute now. What else did Chaos want from them? Chachamaru was in no condition to fight anymore.
"The cat's body is suitable for my transformation. He has the spirit of a true lion and the resistance to anything that tries to pin him down. Chachamaru, your courage is what I need, you're one of those whom I will consider."
The blonde looked at Chaos and then back at Chachamaru in horror. "No you can't I won't allow it. Chachamaru is not some prop for you to mess around with!" What's even more horrifying is that he had more individuals in mind, nobody was safe.
Banri covered his mouth, he didn't want Chaos to see his fear or even turn around but it was too late, Chaos already saw him a long time ago however he wasn't going to pay any attention to the man.
Chaos glared at Douma who stumbled back from his cold stare. "And what are you going to do about it? Your dear butterfly isn't safe either."
Douma felt a heavy sphere ram through his chest as he processed those words over and over again to make sure he wasn't hearing things. This can't be happening what does Shinobu have to do with this...?
The entity looked at Douma who stood there with a horrified expression. His face turned pale, Chachamaru who was standing beside him knew how the blonde felt, he didn't need to look up he could sense this dilemma.
"That girl's ambition is something I truly admire and it would help a lot with my future endeavors."
Douma struggled to get the words out, he couldn't decide on what he wanted to say. Even when he did, it was overwhelming to force himself to get involved in any interaction, "Why Shinobu..." He said in grief.
"How did you know-"
"Because I can see everything happening in the littlest of dimensional planes. I can see your entire history, your thoughts, your past and future, the outcome of the decisions you make like a video tape. My space is everywhere and it has always been that way from the dawn of time." Chaos said in a cruel voice.
Chachamaru coughed and looked up, glaring at the entity with the pale-yellow orbs that truly matched his feline instincts. "Then tell us, in the future, what will happen to me and Shinobu? Spit it out and make it clear." He demanded.
Chaos hummed and walked towards the corner. "There are numerous futures, I can't just cherry pick one and tell you. It all ties down to your choices."
The feline growled, Douma gripped his radiating fan, thinking of ways to protect Shinobu and Chachamaru from this beast. As long as he still doesn't find a host, he will be hunting them down.
"This willing host is another I will think about. It's temporary for now." Chaos added, looking at his arm that shifted from an armored surface back to his shackles and sleeve. Ryukushu was under his regime now, acting as a vessel for Chaos.
Another way for him to communicate. Douma couldn't accept what was happening, Chaos wasn't some criminal that the human world could lock away forever in a cell, he was capable of altering his victims' fate. A literal paradox that was neither a living breathing creature nor a desolate space waiting to be inhabited. He lives within the Chaos and brings it everywhere he goes at the same time whenever he wants to.
Chaos probably isn't physically here, this could be hologram of some sort. While he's communicating with the group and tracking them, he's preparing his plans somewhere else. Douma could sense this heavy dread from the start, but it's concealed so nobody will notice, which means it's true, Chaos was watching everything from his humble home through his own fragmentation.
"If I don't get a host, my transformation will emerge as the embodiment of destruction. The paradox will swallow the human world and everything else in existence." Narrowing his eyes, Chaos looked at Chachamaru who stared at the ground. "Obey and you wouldn't have to worry."
Chaos soared to the sky, making his leave. "You don't have much time left." He sneered.
"And what happens if it's the latter?!" Douma shouted furiously, Chaos was leaving out important details and he seemed to be doing it on purpose.
The paradoxical entity laughed menacingly and transformed back into Ryukushu who got ready to unleash another attack above the group.
"The world has become weak. That's why humans are always suffering." The towering samurai said in a cold tone, his large appearance covered the rays of sunlight shining down from the sky. "The Colosseum's legacy will fix the fate of humanity."
Ryukushu summoned a circular ring of dark symbols in the sky that surrounded the entire area that the bandits' base was located within. It sank into the ground and in a few seconds, a bright light emerged from the ground and moved towards the encampment.
Douma noticed a mark on the samurai's shoulder... Besides getting a portion of his body back, Ryukushu also attained the destructive powers of Chaos.
The blonde jumped to the sky and summoned an abundance of frost that ignited the oncoming explosion and struck the samurai who moved further away.
The towering samurai grinned and vanished, now Douma was the only one in the sky thinking about everything he just heard. The Colosseum, he's heading to Rome. We have to inform Atlas quickly, Ryukushu is clearly looking for something and it's going to bring about a horrible outcome.
The troops helped Chachamaru carefully, Douma landed and hurried towards the group. "We have to return to Atlas!"
"That's right just buy us some time these bandits have gotten really aggressive." Akagi said shoving the bandits away with his blade.
"Oh man this is really bad." Chachamaru said weakly, while Douma sat there, worrying about their team, of all people, Chaos went after them.
