Chapter 118: Chapter 118
Chachamaru sprang up from his seat and stormed towards the group at the encampment. "What's the plan now? Those dorks got away and we still haven't found the meteorite!"
Akagi and Kurai skidded to the corner where the feline stood. Despite his wounds the cat still had the strength to scold others. "We can't discuss this right now. The bandits have gone berserk and that crazy bull is still running into people."
Hearing that made Chachamaru furious. He darted his eyes at Akagi in disbelief. "Is it that hard to handle a bull? Get some bait it's not that complicated." The feline insisted.
"Chachamaru, you shouldn't put all your energy into such incredulous demands. Rest." Douma stood beside the feline who sighed and dragged his feet back to his seat. "I don't wanna sit around here, I really wanna help out while I still can!"
The blonde slouched and muttered to himself. "Oh what a pity, this guy doesn't get it." Those wounds especially the cut on the side of Chachamaru's waist will only hold him back if he tries anything vigorous.
"Some freak is tracking me how am I supposed to sit here and remain calm? We gotta do something now!"
"Use your ears for once, we have more problems to deal with in Rome. That rogue samurai is expecting us there for a reason," Douma couldn't stress out enough how crucial these times were. If they decide to act abruptly it could cost more innocent lives. The group already lost a few comrades and no one knows the current situation in Ime and Bunta's.
"Look at yourself Chachamaru, you're in no condition to fight. That violent bull that's been knocking down those tents may seem like a mindless animal but if you step in now you'll become the push over with that fragile defense of yours."
Clenching his fists, Chachamaru took a deep breath and let his arms down. "I just don't get it, what have we gotten ourselves into? Even Shinobu isn't safe anymore, I'm not the kind to doubt my own decisions because I know what I'm doing," The feline's claws twitched as he spoke.
Douma stepped closer and placed his hand on Chachamaru's shoulder to comfort him, because he too was just as devastated as the feline. For a long time, Douma always thought he was above everyone else but after meeting these three friends of his, that grudge he once had subsided. Having to see those close to him suffer was unbearable. Because he couldn't imagine losing them after being given the chance to appreciate their presence in his life.
"Alright I get it I can be an absolute idiot sometimes, but I hate it when others underestimate me without knowing who I am. That I'll have to admit. It makes me feel so discouraged when that ghost-looking freak had to put me on his list. He doesn't know me."
"I understand where you're coming from, because I too have experienced the same thing as you did, just a different scenario and it's always getting in the way of my interactions with others," The angel said, staring at the encampment getting torn to shreds by the ongoing battle between the group and bandits, along with the bull on the loose.
Chachamaru looked at Douma puzzled. "When I first came to Earth I was already that thick-headed imbecile that everybody has a hard time trying to understand, always have been anyways even before my arrival. It got worse because ever since I had horrible encounters with some people, I started belittling humans to the point where I felt that every human being who sees or talks to me is undermining my capabilities and potential."
"So I had to put up this facade where people found me intolerable to even have meaningful conversations with because I was always trying to act superior to cover up my emotions. It hurt at times and I didn't know what to do because I was so lost in my own grudges that reaching out to those around me wasn't even an option anymore."
Hearing what Douma said made Chachamaru want to take back his words. Has his own ignorance towards the matter prove how insensitive he was? Chachamaru couldn't accept it, his rambling sounded pointless, the feline felt like an empty vessel, whining about nothing just for the sake of having people to listen to him and entertain his tantrums.
"Honestly, I could already sense that dread during our first encounters. I knew something was up but I didn't question it."
Douma closed his fan and kept it in his pocket. The weapon was a reminder of the bloodsheds he witnessed so he decided to put it away for a while to reflect in peace. "Not just humans, every living thing I encountered, more so the ones that I knew were inferior to me."
Chachamaru knew what the blonde meant by that and he didn't want to touch on that topic, the root of the problem lies on one factor, "Look buddy, one individual doesn't represent an entire group. You best get over it if you want to broaden your perspective, and I think that's something that you've managed well."
There was some truth in Chachamaru's words, but Douma wasn't sure if they were enough to convince those he left sour. Maybe if given the chance, Douma could fix things but even then, some of those people were snobs who should've known what was coming for them.
Now wasn't the time to think about the past, he gained the trust of many. Douma smiled slightly and watched the group putting an end to the bull's demise. His iridescent hues shining despite the morbid atmosphere post battle.
When the bull started dashing towards Akagi recklessly, he took out his blade and slashed the abbreviation when it got close. The bull dispersed, the rest of the bandits gasped at the supernatural phenomenon that just occurred.
"We're not done with you guys yet!" Akagi snarled, racing towards the few bandits who lunged at him.
"Shinobu really helped me, she really did." Douma said with the smile on his face growing wider.
"Oh yeah Yushiro told me a lot about you two! I'm surprised you haven't asked her out yet. Lemme guess, Shinobu's a little too angsty?" Chachamaru teased.
Douma was too shy to answer that question but it sure startled him. "Hey what exactly did Yushiro tell you?!" The angel demanded for answers. Yushiro should learn to keep his mouth shut! Spouting lies wasn't going to get him anywhere!
Chachamaru laughed, "Look at that blush on your face! Someone's turning into a tomato!"
"Stop it!"
"Hahaha!"
The feline sat up in fear when he realized something.
"Oh no my wounds! All that talking really made me forget about treating them!"
The angel pouted, "Where's the first aid kit?" He searched the place for that box Akagi was holding just now.
"These bugs are so annoying leave me alone! I won't let you have my blood leave this instance before I swat you to mush!" Chachamaru got up from his seat and took off into the forest, following the trail that was leading him somewhere.
Douma spun around and saw the feline running away which was perplexing given his condition. "Chachamaru what are you doing? If you get lost no one has time to look for you!" He mocked but he couldn't let Chachamaru run off like that it was dangerous.
Akagi heard the commotion and walked briskly to the corner. "It's alright you go after him, we'll take care of these guys." The man was referring to the bandits who were still charging at them.
Nodding, Douma followed after Chachamaru who had gone deeper into the forest. The further he ran, the quieter it was out here in the wilderness. But something ahead caught his eye, it appeared to be a structure surrounded by vines and trees.
He heard Chachamaru's groaning in pain from all the running. It must've taken a toll on his foot, what was he thinking? Douma hurried down the trail, he looked forward to seeing what this structure was.
