Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Kitagawa Marin
A few minutes later, Lin Moze had pushed through the schoolyard and entered the main building.
Contrary to his expectations, the Kabane weren't densely packed inside. Though their numbers had clearly increased, most were still scattered rather than clustered.
Many were even locked inside classrooms, sluggishly crowding near doors.
It seemed that some infected had hidden among the teachers and students seeking refuge. Those who thought they had found safety ultimately turned their sanctuaries into traps.
After assessing the situation, Lin Moze began clearing the floors.
The narrow hallways didn't hinder him in the slightest.
The agility granted by the Blacklight Virus let him maneuver effortlessly, even using walls and ceilings to dodge attacks.
He moved like a predator, weaving through the Kabane with predatory precision.
His muscles adjusted instinctively with every motion, optimizing his strikes for maximum impact.
One floor, two floors, three floors…
When he reached the third floor and prepared to take down the last Kabane, his heightened senses alerted him.
This one felt different.
At that moment, a panicked voice rang out:
"Wait, wait! Don't attack! I'm not one of those monsters!"
WHOOSH!
Lin Moze's hand stopped inches away from the Kabane's face, the air trembling from the force of his halted strike.
To his surprise, the creature's flesh softened and dissolved, turning into a golden, jelly-like substance.
Within seconds, the disguise melted away, revealing a curvy girl underneath.
Her hair was blonde with orange-red tips, and her eyes gleamed with pink contacts.
Even though her makeup was slightly smudged, it couldn't hide her delicate features.
The girl seemed nervous, stepping back cautiously before exhaling in relief.
"I-I'm Kitagawa Marin. I'm a student from Saitama Prefectural High School, here for an exchange program. Are you a student from this school?"
Kitagawa Marin?
The name tickled Lin Moze's memory—probably a main character from some anime he never finished watching.
Suppressing his thoughts, he replied:
"I'm Lin Moze, a second-year student here."
After exchanging introductions, Lin Moze's gaze shifted to the golden substance clinging to her shoulders.
"Is that… something you got from opening a Starter Pack?"
"Eh?"
Kitagawa Marin blinked, then her eyes lit up.
"You can see the panel too?! Wait—you're a Savior as well?!"
Lin Moze raised an eyebrow.
Why is she so excited about not being the only Savior?
"Saving the world sounds cool and all," Marin explained, "but having to do it alone is way too much pressure. Even magical girls would turn dark if the burden were that heavy!"
"…You've got some interesting comparisons."
Before Lin Moze could continue, movement at the end of the hallway caught his eye.
More Kabane—likely drawn by their voices—had started moving down from the fourth floor.
Lin Moze stepped forward, gesturing to Marin.
"This isn't a good place to talk. Follow me to the rooftop. It's usually empty—we might find survivors there."
Marin quickly activated her golden substance, letting it envelop her body like armor.
"Be careful! These monsters are just like the zombies in movies. If they bite you, you'll get infected!"
She was worried.
It had taken everything she had just to survive this long. Without her disguise ability, she might've already joined the ranks of the undead.
But as Marin followed Lin Moze, she soon realized her fears were unnecessary.
Before this, she hadn't seen Lin Moze fight—he'd already cleared the third floor before she had time to react.
Now, however, she had a clear view.
Lin Moze moved like a machine of destruction.
His blurred silhouette tore through the Kabane. His fists cracked skulls, his elbows shattered ribcages, and his knees crushed torsos.
Flesh and blood splattered in all directions, forming a brutal display of carnage.
But that wasn't what shocked Marin the most.
Every Kabane he killed simply vanished.
No bodies. No mess. Just… gone.
"…Wow…"
She whispered in awe.
Under normal circumstances, such gory scenes would make her feel nauseous.
But this wasn't normal.
The world had fallen apart.
Monsters had turned her school into a nightmare. Her teachers and classmates were dead or missing.
If not for her Starter Pack granting her a disguise ability, she'd already be one of those shambling corpses.
Even someone as optimistic as Marin was nearing her breaking point.
Then Lin Moze showed up.
Not only was he a Savior like her, but his strength was almost inhuman.
Relief.
That was what Marin felt as she followed him—the relief of knowing she wasn't alone.
The sight of Lin Moze effortlessly destroying monsters gave her a sense of safety she hadn't felt since the invasion began.
No, no, no! Stop it!
Marin shook her head to banish the strange thoughts forming in her mind.
By the time she snapped out of it, Lin Moze had already pulled ahead.
She quickly ran after him.
