Chapter 66: Hospital Survivors
Chapter 66: Hospital Survivors
Seeing that a novice necromancer could only control twenty skeletons, Wu Heng was stunned.
"Who the hell wrote this? Could it be a pirated book?"
On his first day clearing the hallway, the number of skeletons he controlled was already close to twenty.
How could it be so few?
The book also recorded that necromancy's transformation of corpses should not exceed three levels higher than the necromancer’s level, otherwise the corpse might collapse or lose the mental connection, leading to it going out of control.
But none of this had happened to Wu Heng.
Currently, he's at Level 4, and the highest-level skeleton, Bagdong, is at Level 12.
This clearly differed from what was written in the book.
Wu Heng frowned, feeling that something was off.
Either the book was incorrect, or he was a naturally gifted necromancer, a genius in necromancy.
But considering his average academic performance since childhood, the likelihood of being a genius was low.
Just as Wu Heng was about to continue reading further.
Xiaoxiao floated over from the air and pointed north, saying, "Uncle, that lady who makes the iron spears is here."
Li Yanhong?
He had indeed asked them to speed up the production of iron spears, but it didn’t require daily deliveries.
The surrounding zombies had been cleared, but there was no guarantee that zombies from afar wouldn’t wander over.
If they got infected, no one would be left to teach the skeletons how to use the tools.
"Where is she?"
Before Xiaoxiao could answer, Li Yanhong’s voice came through the walkie-talkie, "Are you there? I’ve brought the iron spears we made yesterday."
"Alright, I’ll come out now."
Wu Heng walked out the north gate and saw Li Yanhong along with the iron pipe spears placed on the tricycle.
"A total of 35," Li Yanhong said.
"Hmm, I’m quite satisfied with this efficiency." Wu Heng waved his hand, and several skeletons came out and carried the spears away.
Li Yanhong didn’t leave but continued, "Do you still need information on mutated zombies?"
Wu Heng turned to look at her and asked, "What information do you have?"
Two days ago, he had mentioned mutated zombies to Li Yanhong, and now she had news so quickly?
He was quite curious about her source of information.
Li Yanhong nodded and said, "Survivors in certain areas communicate on a fixed frequency, and last night, one of them mentioned seeing a mutated zombie."
"Nearby?"
"Yes, they said a group of them are trapped in the pharmacy at the Second Hospital, and there’s a mutated zombie outside. They hope someone can rescue them. I didn’t respond, just noted it down," Li Yanhong said, cautiously watching his expression.
"A hospital?"
The Second Hospital was the only large hospital in their district.
Its medical standards were average; for serious illnesses, one had to go to the city, and it mostly handled minor ailments.
It made sense for mutated zombies to appear in such a place.
Wu Heng thought for a moment, deciding that it might be worth checking out.
It would also give him a chance to level up; he was close to reaching Level 5.
He said directly, "Don’t leave yet. We’ll head there together shortly."
"Ah! Ah? I… I don’t need to go, do I? I might just hold you back," Li Yanhong’s voice trembled, her face full of fear.
She almost wanted to slap herself—why did she say anything?
Wasn’t she just setting herself up for trouble!
"It’s fine, just come inside. We’ll go together," Wu Heng continued.
Sword One and Sword Two had already gone over, pushing Li Yanhong’s tricycle into the residential area.
Li Yanhong could only follow quickly, carefully avoiding some of the skeletons.
.........
The skeleton squad exited through the east gate and headed south onto the main road.
Many cars had crashed into each other, turning the entire road into something resembling a junkyard, filled with the wreckage of cars.
The skeleton squad marched along the road.
Wu Heng asked Li Yanhong about the cause of the zombie outbreak.
She couldn’t say for sure, only knowing that the outbreak happened suddenly, as if randomly chosen. One moment people were normal, and the next they turned into zombies.
She was lucky to have survived since there was no work at the auto repair shop at the time.
Li Yanhong and the others from the auto repair shop had later banded together and survived by luck.
Once on the main road, the hospital was only about two kilometers away, closer than the building materials street.
The skeleton squad didn’t delay, clearing out the zombies along the way while steadily advancing.
There were fewer zombies on the main road compared to the residential area.
And they were scattered, making them easier to deal with.
When the hospital sign came into view, the skeleton squad stopped to rest.
In the distance, they could see a large number of zombies gathered in the open space in front of the hospital building.
Unlike the scattered zombies.
They seemed to be wandering in a fixed location, and two mutated dogs were also moving back and forth in the courtyard.
Surprisingly, the mutated dogs and the zombies hadn’t clashed.
"Peaceful coexistence?" Wu Heng was a bit surprised, then looked at Xiaoxiao, "Xiaoxiao, go check inside the hospital."
"Okay." Xiaoxiao nodded, her body gradually fading and disappearing.
.........
Hospital building, storage room.
The tightly closed door isolated the room from the corridor. In the roughly twenty-square-meter room, it was filled with various medicine boxes and a filthy corner.
The room, which was already airtight, was filled with a nauseating stench.
At this moment, two groups of people were standing inside the room.
On one side, a man and two women, all wearing somewhat dirty white coats. On the other side, two men—one in a black shirt with a gold chain, the other in a security guard uniform.
Both groups were holding scalpels and syringes with needles, glaring at each other.
"Don’t go too far. We let you in so you wouldn’t get eaten by zombies, and now you want to repay kindness with ingratitude," a female nurse said angrily.
The man with the gold chain twirled the scalpel in his hand and sneered, "At this point, who cares about being a savior? Once this bit of glucose is gone, we’re all going to die anyway. We might as well enjoy ourselves before that happens."
As he spoke, the man leered at the nurses across from him.
Earlier, they had barely survived on some food and glucose.
After losing contact with others via the radio and running out of food, it became impossible to sustain everyone in the room.
Since they were all going to die anyway, he figured he might as well have some fun first.
"You bastards won’t die a good death," one of the female nurses cursed.
"Hahaha! We’re all going to die," the man with the gold chain laughed, then turned to his companion and said, "Let’s do it together, brother. Don’t kill the old man; I want him to watch us have fun with them."
The man behind him hesitated but eventually nodded.
At this point, there was no point in caring about such things.
"Go!" The man with the gold chain shouted, rushing forward with the scalpel.
But just as he stepped forward, he suddenly froze.
His body stumbled backward, quickly retreating to put some distance between them.
A blurry figure emerged from the corner.
"Don’t fight. Uncle is here to save you."
