Chapter 67: Survivor Infighting
Chapter 67: Survivor Infighting
Everyone stared in horror at the floating phantom in the air.
They never expected something resembling a ghost to appear at a time like this.
And it could even speak.
The man with the gold chain, who had just been boasting about having a good time before dying, collapsed to the ground, scrambling backward.
With a loud crash, he hit the shelf behind him and finally stopped moving.
The nurses on the other side tightly covered their mouths, trying not to scream.
The entire storage room suddenly fell silent.
"Damn it, there really are ghosts in this world," the man with the gold chain muttered as he stood up, leaning on a cardboard box and walking over to the security guard.
The three groups of people formed a tense standoff in the cramped storage room.
The nurses huddled together in the southeast corner, while the man with the gold chain and the security guard stood in the northeast corner. Xiaoxiao floated near the western side.
They all kept their distance, with wary looks in their eyes.
"What are you doing?" Xiaoxiao sensed that something was off and curiously asked.
"What are you?" the man with the gold chain asked, his hand gripping the scalpel now slick with sweat.
Xiaoxiao looked at him and said, "I'm Xiaoxiao, and my family owns the Fuheng Silver Shop."
"Oh," the man responded absentmindedly, then suddenly stepped forward, thrusting the scalpel at the phantom.
The scalpel passed through as if it had burst a balloon, and the phantom dissipated.
The man with the gold chain's face lit up with joy as he turned back and shouted, "It's just a projection they made. Don't be fooled, let's get them! You get first pick."
"Alright," the security guard agreed and charged forward.
"Fight them!" the doctor shouted, leading the nurses in a rush.
Xiaoxiao's form reappeared at the side.
Meanwhile, the two groups were already brawling.
Clang!
Bang, bang, bang!
In their struggle, both sides knocked over the shelves, sending items crashing to the floor, with the sound of shattering glass from broken medicine bottles filling the room.
Roar!
From the hallway outside came the growl of zombies.
More and more footsteps gathered, pounding on the closed door and windows.
Both groups were startled.
A single thought rose simultaneously in their minds.
It's over!
"Hold on! I'll go get Uncle to save you," Xiaoxiao shouted before phasing through the wall and leaving.
.........
Outside the hospital.
The skeleton squad still hadn't moved.
Some zombies that tried to charge were quickly taken down by the skeletons.
"How did you receive the radio message?" Wu Heng asked Li Yanhong.
He had found a radio in the bus and was curious about how others were receiving messages.
This was something he didn't fully understand.
Li Yanhong explained, "My father liked to modify his old car, adding a radio so he could listen to broadcasts."
"Did you hear the distress call from the car radio?"
"Yes, with the world like this, everyone is trying to connect with the outside, hoping for rescue or to see if anyone else survived," Li Yanhong continued.
Surviving was fortunate, but holding on in such a state was also a form of torture.
"Things will get better," Wu Heng softly reassured.
At that moment, Xiaoxiao floated over from the distance, shouting, "Uncle, I found survivors! They're fighting each other, and there are a lot of zombies outside."
Wu Heng and Li Yanhong were both taken aback.
Then they quickly understood what Xiaoxiao meant.
The survivors had started fighting among themselves.
"Let me see!" Wu Heng gestured, and Xiaoxiao merged into his body.
The scene appeared in his mind.
First was the horde of zombies outside the hospital.
There were at least two or three hundred zombies outside the building, and two mutated dogs were visible.
Once the fighting started, the number of zombies would only multiply.
Just as Wu Heng had seen from a distance.
The ordinary zombies and the mutated dogs hadn't fought each other and seemed to coexist peacefully.
It reminded him of the relationship between skeletons and skeleton dogs.
This wasn’t a good sign.
Then, Xiaoxiao’s view shifted as she entered the hospital building, phasing through walls and passing by zombies wandering the corridors and rooms.
After reaching an unknown floor, the scene of the survivors appeared.
Xiaoxiao’s sudden appearance had startled them.
Then the survivors started fighting, which attracted the zombies.
Even if Wu Heng rushed in with his troops now, it would take some time, and by then, the survivors would likely already be dead.
"What’s going on?" Li Yanhong hesitated before cautiously asking.
As they walked together, she had started to feel that the man in front of her wasn't as unapproachable as she initially thought.
At least not as terrifying as she imagined.
"Some survivors started fighting each other, attracting the zombies' attention. They probably won’t make it," Wu Heng replied.
"This..." Li Yanhong wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.
What kind of luck did these people have?
The skeleton army was already at the hospital’s doorstep, and they chose this moment to start an internal conflict.
They had held on for so long, just a step away from surviving.
Sigh.
With a sigh, she realized there was nothing they could do.
Wu Heng released Xiaoxiao and sent her to patrol the skies.
Then he cautiously moved the skeletons forward and began setting up.
The number of zombies inside the hospital was indeed significant.
Charging in directly would cause unnecessary losses, so some planning was necessary.
He found a building to use as a defensive position, with their backs to the wall and spears facing forward.
Once preparations were complete, he said, "Barson, go lure the zombies over. Be careful."
Barson squeezed out of the skeleton formation and headed toward the other side.
.........
Soon.
The sound of dense footsteps and zombie growls came from the front.
A large horde of zombies was following behind Barson.
Their growls were savage, and they charged with ferocious appearances.
Wu Heng gripped his staff tightly, ready for battle, while Li Yanhong beside him turned pale, her legs trembling uncontrollably.
As Barson neared, he slipped back into the skeleton formation, quickly moving to the rear.
Wu Heng raised his staff and instantly cast 【Grease Spell】, covering the ground with thick, sticky oil.
He threw an incendiary object, and with a whoosh, flames erupted, creating a barrier of fire.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The flames engulfed the zombies.
But soon, zombies ablaze with fire burst through, slamming into the prepared spears.
More and more zombies charged through, crashing into the skeleton army.
The battle erupted instantly.
The area was filled with the sounds of shouts, flesh being hacked, and the crackling of burning flames.
The noise also attracted even more zombies to converge on the area.
An unending stream.
After releasing a 【 Witch Arrow】, Wu Heng noticed out of the corner of his eye two mutated dogs at the flank, dragging a skeleton out of the formation.
They shook their heads violently, tearing the Skeleton Warrior to pieces.
Leaving nothing but scattered bones.
Then they continued looking for another chance, seizing the moment to grab another skeleton, pulling it out to tear apart.
"You're exactly what I'm looking for."
Wu Heng’s objective on this trip was the mutated zombies, and he was worried that these two mutated dogs might escape once the battle started.
He glanced at the few skeleton dogs and cats beside him and said, "Go, kill those zombie dogs, and bring back their corpses."
Four dogs and one cat charged out from the skeleton formation.
The mutated dogs in the distance, dragging skeletons, heard the approaching footsteps. As they looked up, they saw the charging skeleton dogs.
Before they could react, the skeleton dogs pounced, and the two sides began a fierce struggle.
They became a tangled mess, biting and tearing at each other.
