Chapter 68: Big-Headed Zombie
Chapter 68: Big-Headed Zombie
Li Yanhong was shocked as she watched the scene in front of her.
It was her first time witnessing a battle between a horde of skeletons and a horde of zombies.
The scene was bloody and terrifying.
Skeletons had severed zombie limbs hanging from their ribcages, while zombies frantically bit into the skeletons' rib bones.
The visual impact was stronger than any movie she had ever seen.
Survivors who managed to live through this had already adapted to the apocalyptic environment both physically and mentally.
But what was happening before her eyes still sent chills down her spine.
Wu Heng cast 【Grease Spell】 again, igniting a blazing fire.
The zombies' assault became even more ferocious, like a tidal wave crashing into the skeletons' formation.
The skeletons kept fighting back, repeatedly killing the zombies that charged at them.
At the intersection of the two forces, a boundary line of corpses and bones gradually formed.
Just when Wu Heng thought that they could hold out as long as they kept fighting, something changed.
Suddenly, the attacking zombies started behaving differently.
The horde of zombies began avoiding the flames in front and even the positions of the spearmen, flanking the skeletons from both sides and launching fierce attacks.
It was like a compressor, constantly squeezing the skeletons from both sides.
At the same time, some zombies rushed into the buildings on either side, breaking windows and leaping from above directly into the center of the skeleton formation.
As they crashed down, they crushed a group of skeletons and started tearing them apart.
In an instant, the skeletons were thrown into chaos.
Wu Heng and Li Yanhong both watched in shock.
The zombies were using tactics.
How was that possible?
"Something must be influencing these zombies."
Wu Heng's eyes quickly scanned the battlefield, searching for the cause of the zombies' sudden change in behavior.
He had fought zombies many times before.
If zombies knew how to use tactics, he wouldn’t have survived this long.
Something must be wrong.
As Wu Heng scanned the area, his eyes suddenly narrowed.
At the rear of the zombie horde.
A small group of zombies was gathered around a strange-looking zombie.
Its body was similar in size to a human, but its head was abnormally large.
It looked like an upside-down gourd placed on someone's head.
"That’s a Commander Zombie," Li Yanhong suddenly said beside him.
"What’s a Commander?"
"The radio described a type of zombie with an unusually large head that can control a certain number of zombies," Li Yanhong quickly explained.
Wu Heng understood.
In other words, the actions of these zombies were being controlled by that big-headed zombie.
To turn the tide of battle, they needed to kill that big-headed zombie.
But it was smart, keeping a considerable distance, out of range of spells and firearms.
"Bagdong, can you take it down?" Wu Heng asked.
Bagdong looked around and then darted into the building behind them.
Then, with a crash.
It burst through the third-floor window, leaping far beyond the main group of zombies.
With punches and kicks, it sent nearby zombies flying.
Then it charged straight toward the big-headed zombie.
The big-headed zombie had special abilities but wasn’t particularly brave.
Seeing the towering skeleton approaching, it instantly became uneasy.
The surrounding zombies tried to block Bagdong, but they were all knocked aside.
The big-headed zombie began to retreat.
It tried to flee, but its movement was slow, stumbling as if unsteady on its feet.
In desperation, a regular zombie crouched down and hoisted the big-headed zombie onto its back.
Then it turned and ran away.
As the big-headed zombie fled, the attacking horde instantly became disorganized.
Wu Heng immediately ordered, "Attack."
Clatter, clatter!
The skeletons charged from their positions, directly assaulting the retreating zombie horde.
In an instant, the battle resumed, with the skeletons tearing into the zombies.
The massive skeletons led the charge, swinging their arms in wide arcs, cutting down zombies as they pursued them.
The skeletons clung to the back of the zombie horde like glue, pressing closer as the zombies retreated.
And the zombies seemed determined to escape, running without looking back.
They only stopped to fight when they were attacked.
Li Yanhong followed the skeletons forward.
She still couldn’t wrap her mind around it.
Chasing down a fleeing zombie horde?
Was that necessary?
Wu Heng, following behind, glanced at his status panel.
【Level 4 (6454/6500)】
"Keep chasing!" Wu Heng shouted.
Up ahead, the zombie carrying the big-headed zombie fled, with Bagdong in pursuit.
Behind Bagdong was the retreating zombie horde, and behind them were the skeleton warriors with their rattling bones and knives.
A large group, running down the road.
【Experience gained +4.】
【Your level has increased to Level 5. Intelligence +1, Constitution +1, Specialty 【Arcane Training】 unlocked, Mental Power increased.】
Finally reached Level 5.
Wu Heng felt a surge of joy and immediately ordered, "Defend!"
Clatter!
The charging skeletons stopped their pursuit and began attacking the zombies emerging from the alleys on both sides.
They had chased the zombies so far that the hospital was no longer in sight.
If they continued, they wouldn't know how far they would end up.
After killing the zombies coming out of the alleys, Bagdong returned from a distance.
Judging by the direction, it had circled around to avoid the remaining zombies.
However, it hadn’t managed to kill the big-headed zombie.
They would need to be more cautious in the future; its ability was too strange.
Wu Heng waved his hand, and the skeletons began cleaning up the area, carrying the corpses back along the path they had come.
.........
At the hospital.
The courtyard in front of the building was now devoid of zombies.
They entered the registration hall.
A few wandering zombies were quickly dispatched by the skeletons.
Wu Heng looked around and asked, "Is there anything worth scavenging in the hospital?"
Li Yanhong replied, "Medicine. Medicine is very important in times like this, and also alcohol. You need alcohol to disinfect corpse cores."
Uh...
"What about besides medicine?"
"Besides medicine? Maybe some equipment."
Wu Heng nodded, then turned to Xiaoxiao and asked, "Xiaoxiao, where are the survivors you mentioned?"
"Upstairs."
"Let’s go check it out."
They went upstairs and entered the storage room Xiaoxiao had mentioned.
The door was wide open, and the room was filled with scattered items and bloodstains.
As they walked in with the skeletons, the crunch of broken glass and crushed cardboard boxes echoed underfoot.
"See if you can find the radio," Wu Heng said.
Li Yanhong nodded and began searching around.
As the two of them searched the room.
Clang!
A sudden noise made them whip around.
Wu Heng gestured to Barson, who walked over and moved aside a pile of items.
It revealed a device that looked like a freezer.
"Open it!"
Creak!
The lid opened to reveal a girl curled up inside, dressed in a nurse's uniform.
Just as she was about to speak, she saw the skeleton head peering down at her.
Her eyes widened in horror, and an expression of utter despair filled her face.
