Chapter 72: Chapter 71: Establishment of the Manufacturing Group
Zhao Wanrong, observing the workload of the Logistics Department, proposed creating a Manufacturing Group. Originally, this was meant to be discussed at a departmental meeting, but Ye Zian could make the decision directly. Zhao Wanrong was unaware of the function of Ye Zian's "Tower of Babel," which gradually increased residents' favorability each day. She simply observed that all departments were overworked, risking a loss of public support.
In particular, the Catering Group was responsible for feeding over 2,000 people daily, with each member working from dawn till dusk. With the new members joining, Zhao Wanrong suggested implementing rest days, allowing residents to take turns having a break. This would not hinder work and would enhance residents' happiness.
Ye Zian agreed, reasoning that without rest, how could he help them improve their abilities? With everyone collapsing into bed after a day's work, even he couldn't be everywhere at once. Implementing one day off per week, department heads would handle scheduling and be allowed to appoint a deputy, whose compensation would be slightly lower than the head's.
"Phew, finally done with everything."
Ye Zian finished handling the heaps of minor tasks, feeling mentally exhausted. Glancing at his watch, he realized it was already 2 PM, and the meal Li Menglan had brought him had long gone cold.
Seeing Ye Zian was finally done, Li Menglan timidly asked, "Senior, should I have someone warm it up for you?"
Ye Zian casually shoveled a few bites, saying, "No need, I'm not that picky."
With stress easing, Ye Zian noticed a sturdy little bed placed in the corner of the office. Unsure whether it was due to the antics that had occurred between him and Zhao Wanrong in the office before, or if she used it to rest after busy stretches, that bed was now simply there.
"Hehehe, a little bed."
"Xuefei, come here for a moment."
Outside, Hu Xuefei sat at the desk, processing the plans Ye Zian had just decided upon. Hearing him call for her, she was momentarily stunned, reminiscing about the last time he and Zhao Wanrong were in the office. Her cheeks flushed, yet she obediently stood and entered the office.
Inside, Li Menglan was already being embraced by Ye Zian on the bed, and Hu Xuefei swiftly locked the office door behind her. Having worked hard all morning, Ye Zian felt the need for a break. Of course, his main aim was to assist Li Menglan and Hu Xuefei in cultivating their powers, perhaps helping them awaken abilities sooner—truly laboring for their advancement.
Eyeing the bashful pair, Ye Zian noted he needed to hurry to the Tower of Babel afterward. First, he would check the state of the manufacturing plant and then optimize the room layout on the first floor of the tower.
With the tower's footprint growing increasingly substantial, it might eventually merge with the stronghold's walls. Since returning to the stronghold yesterday, Ye Zian hadn't yet visited the Tower of Babel. Zhao Wanrong had only assigned some residents to explore the manufacturing plant, and it was time to see for himself.
As he entered the so-called manufacturing plant through the membrane, his eyes widened at the sight of a 2,000-square-meter equipment factory. Only six assembly lines for equipment manufacturing were activated, occupying about 200 square meters, while the rest awaited activation upon the tower's higher level development.
Oddly enough, this almost felt like he was sending them into a factory environment!
However, even with assembly lines, the workload in the manufacturing plant wasn't intense. Essentially, one needed to place raw materials, and the machinery completed other steps automatically, with the ability to adjust settings based on demand.
A leather armor assembly line required just one team member to place leather into the machine, which then automatically cut and sewed it, imprinting special energy onto the armor. Once finished, the team member retrieved the armor and set it aside.
The entire process took less than half an hour, before the machine automatically commenced the next armor. This cycle repeated continually.
The process for producing sabres was even more efficient. Ye Zian observed a team member insert cut steel into the conveyor belt. The steel underwent forging and tempering in a furnace, and within one complete cycle, the machine could produce ten sabres per hour on average.
This meant one machine could manufacture 240 sabres or 48 sets of leather armor per day if run non-stop.
Ye Zian had no plans to halt production and intended to implement three shifts, quickly stockpiling weapons and armor for unexpected needs.
By implementing a base salary plus piecemeal production system, team members could earn additional points—the harder they worked, the more they earned.
Thinking himself a genius, Ye Zian decided one machine would produce sabres while the other five focused on leather armor production. In ten days, the stronghold could equip every person with a set of leather armor and a sabre, creating a standardized uniform.
Nearby, a diligent member was moving completed leather armor when Ye Zian called her over: "You, come here."
Judging by her age and appearance, she didn't seem like a student, likely one of the stronghold's veteran members.
Dressed in casual sportswear, it failed to mask her impressive figure. Despite her mature appearance, her voice was like that of a loli, timidly asking:
"Lord City Master, my name is Lan Yingying. Do you need something from me?"
Lan Yingying, startled by Ye Zian's summons, momentarily revisited a childhood memory of wetting the bed, but couldn't think of anything she might have recently done to violate the stronghold's rules.
"Your name is Lan Yingying, right? Don't be afraid. Starting today, you're the leader of the Manufacturing Group. You'll earn a core team member's salary and benefits, and be responsible for the entire manufacturing room's operations. All members will work in three shifts, aiming to produce 2,400 sabres and 2,400 sets of leather armor within 12 days. Members working night shifts can earn an extra 20 points."
Twenty points equated to half a day's wages for regular team members and nearly doubled the income for most temporary members.
Taken aback at first, once hearing of her promotion to group leader, Lan Yingying was still in disbelief, staring at Ye Zian.
The sudden promotion and raise felt like a dream come true for Lan Yingying, her favorability towards Ye Zian shooting up to 83 instantly.
Overwhelmed with joy, Lan Yingying said, "I...I won't disappoint you, Lord City Master."
Surrounded by envious gazes, colleagues saw their daily confidant become the new group leader, their salary and benefits more than doubling.
"You can appoint two deputy leaders to aid in management, with benefits comparable to a group leader, but with daily point rewards 20 less than core members."
Ye Zian spoke, then left the manufacturing room, aiming to check on the new recruits in the training room.
Upon hearing Lan Yingying was allowed to promote two deputies, team members eagerly showcased their skills, hoping to catch Lan Yingying's attention for an early promotion and pay rise.
