Chapter 99 Collapse of the Program Inspection Team. A Ray of Hope!
“Wow, it’s unbelievable. Just Brother Hu, that young driver and a few others have trapped fifty to sixty program officers on the second floor, and they’ve already killed a dozen or more.”
“This is beyond belief. The traps Wang Yun set up in this factory are terrifying!”
“There are traps everywhere, the entire factory is filled with them. I’ve already died a dozen times in the game!”
“The factory in the game is identical to the real one, but this game is hellishly difficult!”
“The captains seem on the brink of collapse. They’ve lost over thirty officers this time!”
As the live audience watched the drama unfold within the factory, witnessing the hellish difficulty of the game and the growing anxiety of the chief inspectors, they were filled with shock.
“This game, this factory, Wang Yun himself! Everything is too terrifying.”
“How will the captains break through this deadlock?”
The audience buzzed with comments, pondering the seemingly insurmountable challenge.
**
“I suggest letting our brothers on the second floor jump out through the windows of the room in front of them. Right now, the priority is to get them out of the factory,” Wu Mingyu proposed, glancing at the other captains.
“Jumping from the window of that room… could it be trapped?” Wu Yaoming, visibly on edge, expressed his concern.
They had to consider the possibility of traps in the room they would need to enter to jump from the second floor to the first. He was hesitant and afraid to take the risk.
“Now, we have two choices. Either break through this factory or retreat and level it. The latter seems easier. Let them jump out through the windows. We must take this risk, however slight it may be,” Jiang Youshan said, his face continually changing expressions.
They were in a deadlock. The program officers were cornered on the second floor, faced with the dilemma of either charging in, which bore greater danger, or retreating, which, while risky, seemed a more manageable risk.
“Retreat. We can’t afford to charge in,” Kolyev said, his face grim.
Wu Yaoming inhaled deeply and picked up the communicator, “Enter the first room, break through the windows, and escape that way. Also, those with shields, approach in a solid formation, thoroughly inspect the room to ensure no traps, then let the others follow.”
He issued his commands, his gaze fixed intently on the screen.
“Roger that, Captain,” responded the officers on the second floor, their expressions uneasy but affirming.
“You six with shields, enter that room in formation and scour for any traps,” the squad leader ordered with a stern face, “The rest of you, stay on guard. If those damned guys appear, shoot on sight.”
The six shield-bearing officers nodded, looking toward the room where a handgun lay on the floor. They shared a glance, encircled themselves with the shields, and slowly proceeded into the room.
Over forty armed program officers were on guard, while six of them cautiously entered the room shielded by their bulletproof barriers, eyes sweeping over the area.
“Use the shields to touch the walls and meticulously inspect every corner of the room. Look out for anything unusual,” Wu Yaoming directed through the squad leader’s body camera, closely observing their actions.
“Roger that, Captain,” the six officers nodded, inhaled deeply, and methodically spread out, scrutinizing every aspect of the room.
Suddenly, one officer focused on a corner of the wall.
“Something is flashing here, looks like a surveillance camera,” he said sharply, promptly reporting, “Captain, we’ve found a surveillance device in the room.”
“A surveillance device? That explains how they’ve anticipated our every move. Wang Yun must have stealthily installed cameras,” Wu Yaoming responded, his expression uneasy.
“Wang Yun is a master magician, and deception is a magician’s forte. His placement of cameras must be incredibly covert,” Wu Mingyu commented, his brow furrowed. “Since we entered the factory, they’ve had us under constant surveillance.”
“Captain, this camera isn’t high up, it’s hidden near the corner, very discreet,” the officer continued.
“That figures,” Wu Yaoming sighed deeply. “Destroy that camera.”
“Yes, Captain!”
The officer nodded, lifted his inspection gun, and decisively smashed the camera lens. The gun hit with a crisp ‘clack.’ But as the officer smashed the camera, he felt as though he had activated a switch, causing his face to turn pale with a sudden, ominous premonition.
In a flash, a noise from above was followed by a fishing net swiftly descending upon them.
“It’s a trap,” the officer shouted in horror as they were ensnared in the net.
Caught like fish, they were rapidly hoisted a meter high, dangling helplessly in mid-air, their faces etched with terror.
Outside the room, the other forty-plus officers witnessing this scene were equally horrified. Another trap, this one specifically targeting those with shields.
“Oh, oh, oh, caught six fish, hahaha,” an arrogant voice rang out, followed by footsteps.
“Don’t shoot, don’t shoot. One wrong move and your six brothers are done for,” a figure slowly walked out from another room, gesturing toward the forty-plus officers with a hand, his face wearing a thick, mocking grin.
“Damn it!”
The forty-plus program officers reacted to his wildly arrogant voice and saw his reckless smile and provocative look. Their bodies trembled violently. But they dared not shoot, knowing that if what he claimed was true, activating the electricity would spell certain doom for their six brothers caught in the net.
***
“Damn, damn, damn!”
Outside the factory, Kolyev couldn’t contain his fury, clawing at his golden hair, his face contorted with frustration.
“This net it’s specifically designed to counter our shield-bearing officers,” Wang Yue observed in horror, her face paling. “He anticipated our move.”
Wang Yun was always one step ahead, every action of theirs calculated by him. Watching the screen, their bodies shook violently. One of Wang Yun’s men stood brazenly in front of them, his face full of scorn. Forty-plus officers pointed their guns at him, but he showed no fear, knowing well that the lives of the six program officers were in his hands. If they dared to shoot, those trapped in the net would also die.
It was terrifying. Wang Yun had foreseen everything. He knew they wouldn’t dare to shoot.
“What exactly do you want?” Wu Yaoming, trying to control his rapid breathing and flushed with agitation, asked through the communicator.
“What do you want?” echoed the squad leader of the program inspection team on the factory’s second floor, his face filled with discomfort as he pointed his inspection gun at the young man before him.
“What do we want? Revenge, of course. You killed two of our brothers yesterday, so now it’s your turn to savor the same taste. Hahaha, isn’t it exhilarating?” the young man said, laughing wildly.
He casually pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.
“Anyone got a light?” he asked with audacity, smirking as he held a cigarette in his mouth and mockingly extended his hand toward them.
This scene made the young man look like a fearlessly audacious and ruthless criminal.
“Damn it, just tell us, what exactly do you want?”
The program officers watched the young man, their faces a mix of fury and reluctance. They dared not act, unable to fire their weapons.
“What could we possibly want? Just to kill a few of you officers and make a safe getaway. Our wishes are quite modest, wouldn’t you say?” the young man said with a smirk, then patted his head as if recalling something, “Oh, right, our boss mentioned wanting a little cash too, two million should be enough for a nice celebration afterward.”
He slightly squinted his eyes, gazing at the officers with a taunting question, “Seriously, none of you has a lighter?”
“Thinking of leaving? Today, none of you are escaping,” one of the officers blurted out, his eyes seething with killing intent.
“Hmm? Don’t agree? So should I leave? Return to the room and continue our game?” the young man retorted, raising his eyebrows and pointing to his chest with a mocking look. “Don’t shoot, spare me. I’ll go back to the room. Meanwhile, our boss will electrocute those six fish, and then we can continue. Sounds good, doesn’t it?”
***
“Holy cow, who is this guy? Is he an Academy Award actor or what? His performance is absolutely explosive!”
“Wow, that’s so audacious. The expressions, the language, he’s like the epitome of a ruthless bandit. So ruthless!”
“It’s an outright provocation, like blatantly stepping on our faces and hitting us where it hurts…”
“Using six officers as hostages and then calmly planning an escape? Impressive, truly impressive!”
“Is he planning to eliminate over thirty officers and then just walk away like it’s nothing?”
“What can they do now to stop them from leaving? They’ve got six hostages!”
“Man, I went to the second floor of the factory in the game, entered that room, and just like in the real factory, I got trapped in a net!”
Viewers in the livestream were completely taken aback by the young man’s dynamic performance. It was just too unrestrained.
***
“Two million and then they’ll leave?”
The six Captains felt like the world was spinning. After losing more than thirty of their officers, and now faced with such a demand, it was the ultimate insult.
But if they didn’t agree, what about the six captured officers?
The primary issue was that disagreeing would lead to further conflict. At most, they could eliminate this young man who came out to taunt them. But in the shadows, there still was Wang Yun and his five subordinates–six, including the delivery driver.
To yield or not? To have sacrificed more than thirty officers and then just let the perpetrators swagger away?
The six chief inspectors were filled with a sense of indignation. They simply couldn’t stand it.
***
“Wow, the Death Factory game is a mirror image of reality! I went into a room on the second level and also got trapped in a net. The traps are exactly the same!”
At that moment, a surprised exclamation came from someone nearby. This statement momentarily stunned the six Captains. Curious onlookers had gathered around them, many snapping photos. The mention of the ‘Death Factory’ and traps made them furrow their brows in concern.
Wang Yue, after a brief hesitation, approached the young man who had spoken.
“Can you elaborate on what you just said?” she asked.
“Hello, Captain Wang Yue. I read in a chat group that the ‘Death Factory’ game and everything inside this factory, including the traps, are identical. I heard friends in the group say that Big Brother promoted it on the livestream and online. You can find the game with a simple online search,” the young man greeted and replied excitedly upon seeing Captain Wang Yue.
“Death Factory? A game?” Wang Yue’s expression changed upon hearing this, her demeanor turning sour.
Had Wang Yun turned their entire operation into a game?
Was this meant to humiliate them?
“Wang Yun is trying to trample us and humiliate us,” Wang Yue returned to her fellow captains and said gravely.
The other five captains remained silent, having heard the young man’s words. They felt an immense sense of frustration and humiliation at being ridiculed by Wang Yun. They were program chief inspectors, and Wang Yun was the fugitive they were chasing.
“Death Factory?” Wu Mingyu, with a dark expression, immediately took out his phone and downloaded the game.
Upon opening the downloaded game, Wu Mingyu’s expression shifted once more upon seeing its interface.
“Tell them we’ll give them two million in one hour and allow them to leave,” Wu Yaoming said from the side, sighing silently with a sense of helplessness. They had no alternatives in the current predicament.
“Powerless and helpless, we’re left without any viable options,” Jiang Youshan agreed, conveying a sense of defeat.
They had been thoroughly defeated.
***
“We’ll transfer the two million in an hour, but our six brothers must not be harmed in any way,” the squad leader declared, though there was evident reluctance and anger in the tone directed at the young man.
“An hour is too long. You’ve got forty minutes. A minute late, and we’ll start eliminating your people,” the young man countered, grinning ominously.
The program officers were visibly enraged by his response.
“Fine,” Wu Yaoming finally conceded through gritted teeth.
“Understood,” the squad leader reluctantly agreed, setting the forty-minute deadline.
“Ok! Ok! Hahaha!” The young man laughed wildly in response.
***
“Big Brother totally wins this round!”
“This is sheer domination. The inspection team’s situation is just too tragic!”
“Big Brother is too strong. Maybe the inspection team needs a buff?”
“This guy’s arrogance is infuriating. I really want to punch him!”
The audience collectively sighed, each person reacting to the dramatic events unfolding before them.
This time, the inspection team had deployed over three hundred officers, yet now they were utterly ineffective against both the factory and Wang Yun’s group. To think they even had to pay two million for their opponents’ safe departure was beyond belief.
“The traps in the ‘Death Factory’ game are exactly the same as the traps in the actual factory,” Wu Mingyu stated gravely, having downloaded and played the game, dying several times.
“The game’s traps mirror those in the factory?” Ying Yuezi asked, her eyebrows knitting together in surprise.
“Identical. He’s turned our operation into a game, openly mocking us,” Wu Mingyu replied, shaking his head with a bitter expression.
“If it’s a game, then perhaps there’s a way to beat it, to clear it?” Ying Yuezi pondered aloud.
“Clear the game?” Wu Mingyu paused, his expression turning contemplative.
“We need to consider whether obtaining the game this way is fair,” Wu Mingyu questioned, addressing the technological chip on his person.
“That’s fair. Wang Yun deliberately made the game available online. It’s natural for you to access it. He probably uploaded the game mainly for you to see,” a member of the staff team promptly responded.
“Completing the game might be our only sliver of hope,” Ying Yuezi said.
“And we must do it within thirty minutes,” Wu Mingyu added, his eyes slowly lighting up with a faint glimmer of hope.
At last, a beam of hope!
