chapter 7
7 – First Day of Admission
Yesterday’s sleep was definitely not good enough.
All the furniture is a bed that is falling apart and a storage box that may be a closet or a storage box built in the corner.
Even the room was filthy narrow, so it seemed that two people could get along in a cramped state, but it seemed impossible for three people to come in.
It’s me, the house I’ve been living in this world is like that, so I don’t care if mice or cockroaches pop out, but it seems that the children of noble families have been disillusioned.
Just yesterday, I saw 6 people packing up and leaving the dormitory, but maybe there are more cadets I haven’t seen.
At least Aden is the main character, and he seems to have unloaded his luggage without thinking about it, even after seeing that scene, to see if he has a sanity boost.
“Good morning Belle.”
On the way back to school after last night, which was like a big fight.
I ran into Lorne on the way and waved her hand at me, and I blinked my eyes.
As a neatly braided strand of hair swayed, my gaze was stolen from me for an instant.
Even now, in my eyes, I look like a busy childhood friend, but it seems like that braided hair is bluffing, saying, “I’ve matured.” It makes me laugh for no reason.
“Did you wait?”
It wasn’t that we met on the street, but I remembered standing in front of a tree and asked to confirm.
Then, Lorne, who approached me without hesitation with a smile, tilted his head slightly to one side.
“Because it’s the first day, I want to go with you. No?”
“There is nothing that can’t be done. But I thought I’d wait.”
It is a place that boasts an unnecessarily large site.
There must be more than one or two roads from the dormitory to the main building, so why did I think of waiting here?
At least I’m glad I came this way, otherwise it would have been in vain.
“For some reason, it seemed like he would come. A triumph of my intuition. hehehe”
“Great job. Yes.”
Showing off her trademark V, she roughly stroked Lorne’s hair as she stumbled and moved along with her.
But I was alone on the way to school, so it was a little lonely, but it’s nice to have a friend to talk to.
As I reached the front of the main building, I saw a group of people entering through another road across the tree at the end of my gaze.
Most of them are new faces, but there were some familiar ones.
‘It’s Elisha. So, are those Loferia coffin cadets?’
It was Elisha who moved her steps loftily as she lightly stroked her fluttering blonde hair with her hand, just like a scene in her cartoon.
Then, as if she felt her gaze, she turned her head towards me.
Her first step was to raise her hand up to her shoulder level and shyly wave it.
At that small gesture, the students passing by me murmured.
“Isn’t that the Princess Crozel?”
“Who are you waving to?”
“It must be that man in front.”
“Hey man, why would he wave to an E class cadet?”
There were some very rude voices along the way, but I also acknowledged it to some extent, so I decided to keep quiet.
Well, that’s not wrong.
In the first place, the difference between classes belonging to this school is tantamount to an invisible class, and if Elisha, class A, is a member of the royal family or an aristocrat equivalent to it, then I am an untouchable.
To be honest, I wondered if he was waving at me too, but I realized the reality soon after hearing that voice and turned around.
In the first place, we’re not particularly close.
Even the conversation was only for a short time on the day of the test, so why are you waving at me?
Parting with Lorne on the way, I headed to the classroom with a signboard reading 1-E.
To Lorne, who regretted saying that he would not be able to see her in the future, I was able to finally get rid of it by comforting him that it would be okay since this academy has many joint classes.
After entering the classroom, I checked my assigned seat through the paper pasted on the blackboard.
My seat is in the back row by the window. I like it.
Besides, I see a very familiar name in the seat next to me.
‘Tina Everett.’
It seems that the owner of that lively puppy-like tension that I met yesterday at the entrance ceremony is sitting next to me.
It’s good to be lively, but I just hope it’s not too loud.
Heading to my seat, I put my bag down and passed the time when the students in my class began to enter one by one.
Certainly, the seats were left sparsely vacant, probably because of the guys who escaped yesterday, but it wasn’t my concern.
Again. Again.
With the classroom getting more and more noisy.
The front door of the classroom opened with the sound of high heels hitting the floor.
“Sit quietly before you speak twice.”
The purple-haired woman who opened the door and entered without saying a word of greeting, threatening the students and throwing the rollbook over her desk with a clatter.
It was none other than Professor Seras, who made it possible for me to enter this academy.
* * * *
After the ordinance was completed under the leadership of Seras, the professor in charge.
Since it was the first day after admission, my expectations that there would be no classes were completely erased.
Well, in the first place, it was like this in the original, so what the hell did you want?
‘Should I give up on magic?’
That was the first thought that came to my mind after morning class.
Today’s second class was a class called ‘Introduction to Magic’ that went over the most basic parts of magic, but honestly, I didn’t understand even half of it.
It feels like I’ve realized only today that there are areas that can’t be understood with only knowledge of the original work.
At this rate, I think we need at least one tutor in charge.
The problem is that I don’t dare to ask Lorne to do that, as I know what type of guy he is.
‘Because he’s a genius.’
Even in the original work, Lorne was an overwhelming practical force rather than a theory.
To put it simply, I don’t know why 1+1 becomes 2, but when a problem is presented in front of my eyes, I’m the type to just solve it.
This is literally the worst type to teach others.
Later, when you get better at the theory, you may ask for help, but that will be a story for a while.
Anyway, let’s focus on the meal right in front of us.
‘The taste is good.’
I was already running out of money, but at the cafeteria here, I was able to get a satisfying meal at a fairly low price.
Just like that, the moment I continued my meal with bread covered in soup, I was satisfied.
Somehow, I felt a stinging gaze from the surroundings.
It’s not because of my mood or paranoia, but rather that I can feel the unique hostility that people exude.
Pretend to continue eating and roll your eyes to explore the surroundings.
Also, expand your senses and listen more to the voices around you.
Only then did some of the voices that I had filtered out on my own begin to enter my head.
“That guy is the guy?”
“Right. The second son of the Ostern family said that.”
“What a shameless guy. How can I eat well?”
“I guess you don’t even feel remorse.”
It seems like he’s talking to me, but I don’t know why he’s showing such hostility.
It’s unusually stinging for someone to send eyes simply because they’re in E class.
What did I do after entering school?
Even when I look back on my memories in Amman, nothing comes to mind.
First of all, who is the second son of the Austeren family?
I think I’ve heard of it somewhere, but I don’t immediately think of it, so I don’t think it was a very important person.
Or maybe it’s a name I heard relatively recently, so my memory remains hazy.
“Ah.”
In the middle of my thoughts.
My consciousness stopped and an involuntary sigh escaped my mouth.
Yes. Glick Ostern.
It was definitely the name of a candidate who was in the same group as me at the time of the test.
Even when I was eliminated, I was very resentful of Professor Seras.
Since he passed by without saying anything to me, he was a forgotten figure in my memory.
Apparently, after that, unconfirmed rumors were spread through acquaintances, and it seems that it reached the ears of the freshmen.
‘It must have been a very good gossip.’
At least, if I were from the same noble family, it would have been difficult for me to spread malicious rumors like this.
Certainly, knowing that I came from a family I had never heard of, and recognizing that I was a commoner, I was aiming for that and digging into it.
Even if Amman Academy claims to provide equal education for nobles and commoners on the outside, that is the academy’s claim, not the cadets’ values.
Even here, discrimination between nobles and commoners clearly exists, and I would have been a perfect prey for those whose values deepened.
“Whoa.”
I feel dirty, but for now I have no choice but to pretend I don’t know and continue my academy life.
At least I don’t know if I can explain why Professor Seras passed me, but that’s not even the case now.
Besides, even if you try to explain it by giving a good reason, it won’t even reach them.
Rather, it is clear that at this time, he will hold on to the horse’s tail and make more noise.
It might be better for me to pretend not to know about it and keep quiet about it, as the other side continues to gossip-like gossip like now.
In that sense, the taste of the rice has already declined, but for now, I have no choice but to continue eating.
Turbuck. Tumble
I thought about that for a while.
I felt a heavy presence approaching me, so I stopped opening the spoon and turned my head.
Standing there was a man with a fairly large physique and muscularity.
Unlike Elisha or Seras, it was an unfamiliar face.
“Excuse me in the middle of a meal. Are you Bel Denauer by any chance?”
“That’s right.”
Judging by the navy tie around his neck, he seemed to be a freshman like me, so I replied in plain language.
It wouldn’t be such a strange situation for the same academy cadet to talk to you, but I was wary, probably because I had just heard a bunch of people whispering over there.
Could it be that he is trying to get into a fight over how he dared to crawl to the academy?
However, I hardly feel hostility.
Above all, the smile on his face felt bright enough to be burdensome.
“I’m glad you’re right! My name is Pareon Glet of class B, belonging to the combat department.”
The Glette family.
Apparently, like the Crozel family of Elisha, it was a fairly prestigious samurai family.
Besides, being a member of class B means that one’s skills are quite outstanding.
Why would such a noble son talk to me?
“You know, Bel Dinau. But what is my business?”
“Hmm, I heard that you passed the exam because you were in the eyes of the examiner even though you had magical power manifestation F. Is it true?”
“… ….”
Even though the words themselves were not much different from the guys who were whispering a while ago, somehow it wasn’t too unpleasant.
What can I say? I’m just trying to literally point out the facts and move on, should I say that I don’t feel the nuance of trying to cut me down around me.
The focused attention is somewhat burdensome, but I decided to nod my head because it wasn’t particularly wrong.
How to interpret it must be up to this guy named Pareon.
“Yes.”
At my positivity, the buzz of those around me who were focusing on this side grew louder, and some nodded their heads.
Probably a reaction with the feeling of ‘I knew it.’
On the other hand, Pareon took a step forward with her eyes twinkling at my confirmation.
As the already gigantic body approached with its back to the light, the shadow over my body grew even thicker.
“Then, I’m sorry for the invitation, but would you mind sparring with me just once?”
“… What?”
At the unexpected request that followed, the bread in my hand fell and rolled on the floor.
Normally, I would have rolled my feet in shame, but now I don’t think so.
A member of Class B is calling me, a member of Class E, to apply for sparring?
What’s your plan?
