Between Your Letter and My Reply

Chapter 164

Chapter 164
『 Translator – Divinity 』

The more Damian thought about that bastard, the more curious he became. What kind of amazing guy was he that Lilliana hid him so well, not even telling him or Casey?

Then it occurred to him that he could ask the informant to investigate this matter, but he decided against it. He was afraid that finding out his identity might hurt his fragile, love-related cells.

“It can’t be helped. It’s not important right now.”

“Then what are you going to do about Seidel?” Lilliana asked.

Damian pondered for a moment and replied, “We’ll have to go there to see if that’s really his main base or not. But if it is, I wonder why he built it in Nichio. If he can use space-distorting magic, it would be more secure to create an entrance in a more secluded place.”

“Then? Are you just going to leave it alone?”

“No way,” Damian said, scratching the back of his head.

“We’ll raid it within a few days.”

“But if it’s not his main base, would there be any point in raiding it?” Casey asked, tilting his head.

“Even if it’s not his main base, there’s value in eliminating the places where they can conveniently plot. If the hideout that was exposed today becomes unusable, they’ll suffer some loss, won’t they?”

“But the entrance is blocked by magic.”

“If we tell Ms. Soliel about that door, wouldn’t she have a solution? She’s an archmage, so her magic must be superior to Seidel’s. She might know a spell or two to nullify Seidel’s magic.”

Casey nodded at Damian’s words.

“Then we should visit her sometime soon. If you’re going to raid it within a few days, should we go today?”

“I promised to go shopping with Lilliana…” Damian muttered, checking the time.

Lilliana waved her hand. “Ah, we can go shopping later, so it’s fine to go take care of business with Damian today.”

But Damian ignored Lilliana’s words and said to Casey, “I’m fine, so why don’t you go shopping with Lilliana? I’ll visit Ms. Soliel in the meantime.”

“You’re going alone? Why? You were supposed to come with us for shopping.”

Lilliana looked at Damian with a puzzled expression. But he had wanted to go shopping alone with Lilliana, so what was the point if Casey tagged along? Damian sulked a little.

“I don’t have anything to buy anyway. You and Casey go buy clothes for Lilliana to wear at the banquet and some clothes for yourself.”

“Hey, why? It would be nice to go together. What about your fall clothes?”

“It’s not like I don’t have any clothes. I can just wear what I have.”

Lilliana looked disappointed, but Casey, unconcerned about Damian, said nonchalantly, “Let’s go shopping, just the two of us. There’s no need for all three of us to go to consult with Soliel.”

Casey looked at Damian with a tilted head.

“But Damian, why are you going to the banquet?”

“Why am I going…? Well, because I was invited…”

“Do you go to every invitation? No, you don’t. Is there a reason you have to go?”

This guy was usually oblivious, but sometimes he would ask these sharp questions.

“I just want to see if my platoon members are alive.”

Casey seemed to understand Damian’s excuse and let it go.

Damian knew how ridiculous it was to go to a social event like this for relationship advice. That’s why he couldn’t say anything more, and he felt a bit self-conscious. But it wasn’t wrong to want to see his platoon members…

“And it’s not like it’s a dangerous place.”

So he should take Lilliana with him.

“Do you want to go too, Casey?”

“No. I hate crowds.”

He had been going everywhere with Lilliana without any complaints, but he flatly refused Damian’s offer. Damian hadn’t expected him to accept anyway.

When Damian visited Soliel, she looked quite surprised.

“You came alone?”

“Is it a problem that I came alone?”

“No, it’s just that you always came with Lily, like a puppy following her around. I thought you two were a set.”

“Lilliana has her own business to attend to. And it’s fine for me to be absent since Casey is with her.”

Soliel prepared the teacups on the tea table while listening to Damian’s rambling. The rock golem waddled over with a teapot and cookies.

Damian, who was getting used to her hospitality, sat down at the tea table without a word and immediately brought up his business.

“Ms. Soliel, about the magic that blocks off a space and connects it to a different space, like this place. Can you nullify it?”

“What are you planning to do this time?”

“I found one of Seidel’s hideouts, and it seems like you can’t enter the connected space without a magic keyword. I want to make it unusable for him even if we can’t catch Seidel. Is there a way?”

Soliel crossed her arms and nodded.

“It’s possible. But not just anyone can do it. Wizards are a very suspicious and cautious bunch. That Seidel guy must have layered multiple spells to prevent others from accessing that hideout.”

“Can’t I do it?” Damian asked.

Soliel burst into laughter.

“How can you do it when you’re not even a wizard? Did you think you were something special just because you used the magic items you bought from me?”

Damian was dumbfounded by Soliel’s blunt words.

“Well, there’s a limit to the magic you can use with magic tools. There aren’t many objects that can hold a vast amount of magic power.”

“Then what do we do? You said it was possible.”

“What do you mean, what do we do? I have to go myself.”

Damian’s eyes widened at Soliel’s words.

“You’ll go yourself, Ms. Soliel?”

“Of course I have to go myself if I’m going to use my magic power.”

“Is that okay with you?”

Soliel shrugged.

“I told you before, deviant wizards like Seidel Luriantz should be dealt with by the wizarding community. I’m an archmage, so I have some responsibility to control him.”

Soliel said so, but Damian, cautiously observing her, asked, “Um… then would there be any travel expenses or something?”

“What are you talking about? This is part of my responsibility, why would I take money?”

“I see.”

Soliel clicked her tongue, seeing Damian’s relieved expression.

“So, what’s your plan?” Soliel asked back.

Damian made an ambiguous face.

“Um… there’s no grand plan. I didn’t think you would go yourself, Ms. Soliel, so I was thinking very simply. I was just going to destroy one of Seidel’s hideouts… but now that you’re willing to help, we might be able to come up with a different plan.”

“You were planning to face a wizard alone, just you, a human? You’re going to get yourself killed.”

“But I wasn’t planning on a direct confrontation. I thought if we just destroyed the hideout, he would come out on his own.”

Soliel shook her head at Damian’s words.

“Damian, I’ve been saying this all along, but you’re underestimating wizards. You can’t fight a wizard with guns or swords.”

Damian raised an eyebrow and said, “Lilliana told me the same thing. But I heard from Casey that a wizard’s weakness is their magic circuit getting disrupted. Casey was trying to find a way to do that. He said we just need to prepare a different circuit that will cause a reaction with Seidel’s magic.”

“But you don’t know a wizard’s magic circuit unless you’re that wizard. It’s their weakness, would they easily reveal it to others? Even I don’t have a way to figure out Seidel’s magic circuit.”

“Then what should we do?”

Soliel frowned and muttered, “Hmm, but you said Casey said that? A different circuit that will cause a reaction with Seidel’s magic?”

“He said that himself. That we just need to make him use magic and then use a circuit that will cause a reaction with that magic…”

“That’s correct in theory. The problem is, as I said, there’s no way to know a wizard’s magic circuit, so you can’t use a circuit that will cause a reaction with it.”

“Is Casey’s method wrong?” Damian asked.

Soliel pressed her fingers against her temples and replied, “Perhaps… it might be possible for a spirit. Casey said that because he’s close to a spirit…”
