Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Proper Convincing
Standing front of a small building, a man of browned eyes and hair, smiled gently. His appearance and atmosphere felt like a kind a gentle person, that it's almost terrifying. He slowly began to walk inside through the entry door holding a bag of unknown papers.
Weaving through a crowd of people seemingly undisturbed despite the handsome face beneath his reading glasses. Reaching the front desk, he gained the attention of the front desk officer, her eyes stared directly at the man in front of her desk. Seeing the girl hypnotized by his appearance, he gave her a simple greeting gesture. The girl snapped out from being captivated and quickly apologized for giving him an uncomfortable, and unprofessional service.
"It's alright." He gave her a warm smile, to which the girl blushed lightly. "I want to serialize a manga. Could you call an editor for me?"
Giving her another smile, the girl stumbled to find words for a response to give "S-sure, give me a second sir." She said, taking out a telephone.
Having nothing else to do but wait, the man began analyzing the surroundings. His eyes focused first on the figure of the receptionist, she was a beautiful girl, her shoulder length hair was colored in blue like the morning dusk you would see every day at 6 in the morning. She wore a classic women business suit colored in coffee brown with a white long sleeved buttoned shirt underneath the brown jacket.
The man then focused his attention elsewhere, or to be specific. The people chattering at the background, they consisted mostly of janitors, and angry staffs.
"Argh! I can't believe this! I could barely afford rent, and now they're planning to lower our wages even more now?!" One of the staffs said. His eyes were blackened with eye bags, his short black hair were messy, and his buttoned white shirt can be seen with a brown coffee stain at the side of his stomach. "I'm not getting paid enough for this! Not to mention how many hours of overtime I did just to finish my work before the deadline!"
Another man, though a bit shorter from the rest voiced his complaints "I'm having troubles too, this is the one of the only jobs I could get with my résumé."
The group continued to chat while the tall browned haired man listened in to the conversation. It wasn't until the receptionist hung up the telephone that the man stopped eavesdropping on the group of overworked workers, Informing him that an editor is available.
The girl at the front desk then, called up an escort to guide the man to have a meeting with their editor. After a short while the called escort arrived, though for a millisecond the escort saw a blonde kid that was then replaced by a 186cm tall man with brown hair and eyes under a pair of reading glasses. The moment the escort saw the man, he felt the air around the man giving him an uncomfortable feeling, but seeing that he can't get his head around why, he decided to throw this feeling out the way, and continue to focus on his job and guide the man to his destination.
The walk was filled with silence, the escort slowly felt the uncomfort feeling creeping back to his head. Trying to fight off the complete silence, he decided to take the initiative.
"S-so, what bring you here sir?" He asked
The brown haired man simply smiled and answered his question "I have a manga, or more specifically four mangas that I want to publish with the help of the people here."
Saying those words, the escort became intrigued, his previous uncomfort feeling completely replaced. "Really? What kind of manga is it? Can you tell me something about it?"
"Of course." The man replied. "But it seems that we don't have enough time to continue chatting" looking forward, they were already at the front of a table with a girl behind it.
"Oh, sorry..." Scratching the back of his head, the escort quickly left the scene and left the man, and their editor to discuss their business.
After the escort left, the man stood at the front of the editor's cubical desk.
"U-umm, y-you can t-take a s-seat if you li-like" the girl spoke with a soft tone that was accompanied by an uncontrollable stutters.
The man would have heeded her words, if there were a seat he could sit on, but alas his patients is still far from reaching it's limit. He looked around for any free nearby seats. Having spotted one at a few meters away, he began to made his way towards the chair and retrieve it.
'Quite unprofessional indeed.' He thought to himself.
After returning to the editor's side who was squirming around frantically, with her face red from embarrassment. "I-I'm so-s-sorry! Th-th-that was ver-very rude of m-me!" Her stuttering became worse than earlier. But seeing her admitting her faults, the man gave her a gentle smile, which did not do her any good.
"It's quite alright." The man simply replied with gentle voice.
Then there was silence. The girl didn't quite know how to continue there conversation, as she expected the man to reprimand her for her unprofessionalism, so she didn't have words at the ready to give to the man sitting in front of her with a shoulder bag.
"...s-so, um m-Mr.?" After a few contemplations she finally put some words together and roughly blurted them out.
"Sosuke, Aizen Sosuke" 'Aizen' introduced himself with his signature smile.
"Oh, I-I'm Chia-sa, U-Ume-m-moto Chi-Chiasa." Without her stutters her name is Umemoto Chiasa. She is a short green haired girl standing at 125cm, with small freckles above her nose. Her blue eyes was seen through her circle framed glasses, her shape was hidden underneath her black suit, though her E size breasts could not be hidden, along with her very shy personality.
Another silence yet again occurred. Seeing that Aizen isn't going to take the lead in their conversation, Umemoto worked up a courage to speak to Aizen about his work.
"S-so, uhh, I heard th-that Aizen-san have f-four mangas th-that you want u-us to pub-lish fo-for you?" She inquired.
"That's right" he replied with a soft voice.
"Then, co-could I take a lo-look at them?" She requested to him to let her see what he wanted help publishing.
'Aizen' then gave her another warm smile. "Sure." He answered, He reached in to his bag, and took out four stacks of manga papers, each being held in a clip. 'Aizen' handed out one of the mangas that he wanted to publish to the editor, while putting the rest to her desk.
Chiasa's glimpse at the text sitting on top of the first stack of papers that was handed to her. "'Fate/Stay Night by JustsomeRando'?" She muttered quietly. Looking back and forth with weird expression from 'Aizen' and the manga in her hands.
(Just to be clear F/SN is owned by Nasu, NOT JustsomeRando)
"It's my pen name." 'Aizen' answered her unspoken question with a hidden shamelessness. She slowly began reading through the papers, slapping the 'Not very creative' comment from her brain and not letting it ever see the light of day, she flipped through the pages fully emersed on what she is reading.
After a while, she sadly had to force herself to stop from her tracks, as it may take a few hours before she finishes what she is reading. Though after reading some parts of the manga, her previous shy personality had supernaturally turned 180⁰. Instead of normally hiding away from strangers, she took the initiative and invaded 'Aizen' personal space.
"Aizen-Sensei! This is amazing! How did you come up with this?" The previous personality had been thoroughly kicked out through defenestration. During the first months of working in the company, Umemoto Chiasa suffered greatly trying to get used to the staffs in the building, at some random times when is accompanied by her random co-workers she would often trip on non existent obstacles, causing some minor... Or major inconvenience to the whole employees, thus had been given the title of "The Patience Trainer" among the staffs. Though after a whole year and a quarter, her hidden extroverted side began to leak and started basking in the outside world. No one really get why she is like this, some even speculate that it is part of her untold quirk, how it took her over a year to reveal her "real" personality to people, though she denied any accusations that come her way. But that was also thrown out of the window by her co-workers, and when new employees are hired, every people in the building would set a timer in their heads for how long the newbies can make Chiasa warm up to them. Secretly making a silent competition that Chiasa doesn't know about.
"Well, it's a —weird?" 'Aizen' began unsure if he used the right term "thing really. I wanted to remind everyone about the heroes of the past and what made them become a hero in the first place." Said while scratching the back of his head.
'Aizen' let his mouth give a convincing reason. The truth is, he wanted to slowly indoctrinate people to get used to the "no quirk" genre that is not very popular in this day and age compared to the "quirk" genre. And what better way to start than to plagiarize something related to heroes!
"How admiriable!" She exclaimed with stars in her eyes. "Without a doubt, this is a masterpiece!" Her now cheery voice continued. Hope could be found on 'Aizen's eyes but still prepared himself for any unexpected outcome to occur.
"The idea of the boy wanting to be a hero and save everyone is the most cliché character ideals, but it is done beautifully!" Chiasa praised. "Being turned into a husk and empty child by a great fire, his father's ideals were the only thing left that filled him. His ideals to save people born from his insanity and survivor's guilt, sets him apart from the rest!"
'Aizen' wasn't exactly sure now whether "His" manga will get published from all the praise it was getting from Chiasa. "But," And there it is. "I– We, aren't confident enough to risk publishing your manga..." 'Aizen' raised a brow at the statement.
Chiasa going back to her nervious personality said "N-no, it's n-not what y-you t-think!" Chiasa started "I-it's just t-that, I d-don't think i-it will l-line up with t-today's trend... And w-won't generate enough p-profit."
'Of Course,' Thought 'Aizen' with a silent sigh, while he rubbed the bridge between his eyes with his thumb and index finger, underneath his glasses.'These people are lacking in creative mind, and are scared of changes so they put those who tries to do something different in their eyes to the same path of making hero manga's to generate untold profits. Which makes them undoubtedly act like flies going towards fire.' Seeing how 'Aizen' acted, Chiasa quickly came up with another reasonable excuse to give to 'Aizen'. "I-it's not j-just that! We a-also lack the re- resources to se-serialize your manga!" She quickly said not wanting demoralize the aspiring mangaka.
'Aizen' on the other hand, was forming plans in his head in order to convince the editor of a dying company. "Y-your manga really is a m-masterpiece, So p-please don't give up!" Chiasa's cheering turned into background music for awhile before 'Aizen' managed get rough outline on the words he's gonna use to convince the editor.
"Umemoto-san," 'Aizen' began, making the editor perk up, and stopped talking while in the middle of her sentence. "You said that you liked my manga, am I correct?"
"Y-yes! It's re-revolutionary, co-completely new and o-original!" She replied, her voice sounded with a genuine answer. 'Aizen' gave her a small smile, completely hiding his inner emotion from being seen on the outside world. "Then, why is it not possible for this company to help me publish my manga?" He asked, making Chiasa widen her eyes for a moment. "W-well," she started "it's b-because it d-doesn't follow the c-current tr-trend, and won't ge-generate enough p-profit. Li-like I sa–" she was cut off by 'Aizen's ' voice that sounded with disappointment "I see," 'Aizen' looked at Chiasa in the eyes hiding behind her glasses. "As an artist, I feel very offended and disappointed." He said making Chiasa freeze up. She didn't mean to offend 'Aizen' she was only trying to do her job, and help aspiring authors with their works. "Being bound to follow these 'Trends' just to make money," he continued "Not only abhors me, but also all the artists around the world! Being shackled by what the people wants and makes us seal our creative minds, just so we can fulfill their desires is unforgiving!" His sharp tone made Chiasa even more tensed than before. She knew exactly what 'Aizen' was talking about, every other manga she read until now we're stale, and repetetive. She knew, but was making herself ignorant of it because of the amount of money they earn, she remembered that even her once colorful mind when she was a child were more interesting than her present self. The time when she would draw whatever that comes to her mind on a piece of paper with nothing but freedom and presenting it to her parents to put her drawings on the fridge. She clenched her teeth and strongly formed her hands into fists, as she let her head down in shame. She have disappointed herself, telling an artist what to do and disapproving their creativity and the world they've created on the piece of paper which contained their freedom of expressing their feelings inside.
Finding what is left of her courage inside her heart, she made a genuine promise towards her benefactor that enlightened her and helped find her missing fire that was lost years ago. "I–!," she began, 'Aizen' raised an eyebrow to Chiasa's sudden change of hair, while the latter not fully knowing what to say nor any idea of how to make him give her a second chance. "I'll see w-what I c-can do! Please, l-let me h-help you p-publish your manga!". She said with a red blush across her face, her steely resolve almost made 'Aizen' flinched. He stared into her eyes, with a small chuckle, he gave her a gentle smile, and asked. "Why the sudden change of mind?" He wanted to know what made her change her decision about not publishing his manga. "W-well..." Chiasa embarrassingly looked down, but her red ears was seen by 'Aizen'. "B-becaus of what Aizen-san said. A-and-" she wasn't able to finish her words as 'Aizen' already know of the reason behind her decision "You don't have to say anymore, I know." He gave Chiasa a warm smile, the latter blushed and panickly picked up the remaining mangas on her desk and made her walk speed fast. "I-I'll take t-these to my superior, p-please leave y-your contact i-information h-here, and w-we'll contact y-you as fast as we can. S-see you l-later, Aizen-sensei!" Chiasa quickly left, leaving 'Aizen' alone. Having nothing else to do 'Aizen' quietly left and made his way towards the exit.
Unknown to the outside world, his mind was- no, his mind is currently in the middle of celebrating his success. 'All according to Keikaku...' he thought to himself, fully knowing that his hypocrisy knows no bounds.
After exiting the building, he heard some panic a few blocks to his right, in which he peacefully ignored and continued walking towards home, which was on his right... 'shiiit...'
