Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Landing Directly on the Target
The other members of the Expendables were extremely envious of Barney's new gear. They spent the entire next day rigorously testing the first set of equipment Barney had. The outer armor withstood over a hundred bullets before breaking, the inner combat suit could endure a hundred rounds from handguns, and the helmet, with its multiple functions and ability to withstand AK rounds, left the team thoroughly impressed with the Devonshire-Type Armor's bulletproof capabilities.
After the testing met expectations, William spent half a day assembling seven more sets of equipment.
On the third day, they received intelligence from the Church confirming that Jet Vroby's subordinate, Edward, had already arrived on Bilena Island. At 7 PM, William and his team, fully equipped with all their gear and weapons, boarded the Expendables' plane.
This time, Thor, the retired pilot, was flying the plane. William's team planned to parachute directly onto Bilena Island to capture Edward first and then deal with the other targets.
Before boarding, Barney and the others meticulously checked all their equipment. After William checked his own gear, he filled his storage space with remote bombs and bullets. With everything ready, they took off towards Bilena Island.
As seasoned veterans, Barney and his team mostly kept quiet during the flight, using the time to rest while holding their weapons. Four hours later, Thor's voice came through the cabin speakers.
"Wake up, everyone. We're fifteen minutes from Bilena Island. I repeat, fifteen minutes from Bilena Island."
Hearing the announcement, William and the others opened their eyes and began checking their parachutes and weapons. After the checks, they donned their helmets.
William activated the helmet's communicator and said, "Connect sync signals and test communication effectiveness."
"All good," came the six replies in William's ear.
"Activate the synced video feed," William continued. After pressing a few buttons on his wrist-mounted computer, six images flashed on the upper left corner of his helmet display, showing the perspectives of Barney and the others.
"Video sync normal," they all reported back.
William then pressed a few more buttons on his wrist computer, and a map and a photo appeared inside everyone's helmets. "This is the target location. The primary objective is to capture Edward alive."
"Understood," they responded.
"Three minutes until jump. Get ready," Thor's voice came again.
"Alright, it's time," William said. "Go, go, go!"
Standing at the rear of the plane, William shouted excitedly and jumped out, followed closely by Barney and the others.
William was exhilarated during his first parachute jump. After enjoying a few skydiving maneuvers, he headed towards Edward's camp, guided by the helmet's display. With his backpack filled with bullets and weapons, the extra weight made William deploy his parachute at 700 meters to avoid injuring his legs on landing.
William safely landed and quickly packed up his parachute. He crouched, gun in hand, and activated the night vision and infrared in his helmet. After observing for a moment and confirming no enemies nearby, he stood up and synced his view with the others, seeing that Barney and the rest had all landed safely. They gathered their gear and moved stealthily toward the soldier's camp where Edward was staying.
The seven of them approached the camp from the southeast. Once everyone was in position, William said, "Barney and I will take out the sentries with bows. Christmas, Gunnar, and Yin Yang will infiltrate and neutralize the soldiers in the camp. Caesar and Toll Road, head to the left hill for sniper support. Got it?"
"No problem," Gunnar said, pulling out his hunting knife and licking it. "Just in time to see who's the best knife fighter in our team, me, Yin Yang, or Christmas."
William chuckled and said, "Save the talk, Gunnar. If you want to prove yourself, do it with actions. Focus on stealth kills and use silencers on your guns. Any questions?"
"Nope, boss. I can't wait," Gunnar replied excitedly.
Christmas and Yin Yang exchanged glances, silently drawing their knives and activating their night vision and infrared sensors, scanning the surroundings.
As Gunnar and the others began infiltrating the camp, William drew several arrows and aimed his hunting bow at two sentries in the camp.
With a soft "thud," the two sentries were silently shot in the head and fell without making a sound.
After eliminating the sentries, William followed Gunnar and the others into the camp, climbing up to the sentry post. With his hunting bow ready and using the infrared vision in his helmet, he easily spotted Gunnar, Yin Yang, and Christmas stealthily entering tent after tent, silently dispatching the sleeping mercenaries.
Soon, after William and Barney had assisted in taking out a few more mercenaries with arrows, the camp was cleared, except for a central tent. Now, the only living people left were William's team and Edward in the central tent.
Seeing Gunnar was the first to enter Edward's tent, William heard Gunnar's "all clear" signal after a few seconds. He then stowed his bow and climbed down from the sentry post, heading toward the central tent. With his mental scan, William was surprised to find Edward still sound asleep, oblivious to Gunnar standing beside him.
Not long after, Christmas and Yin Yang joined them. Seeing Gunnar looking pleased, William remarked, "Looks like your contest has a winner, Gunnar. You'll owe us all a drink."
"Haha, no problem, I'll buy everyone drinks all night long," Gunnar laughed.
After the banter, William walked up to Edward and kicked him hard, sending him crashing to the floor.
Edward, groggy and disoriented, looked around and saw several fully armed men in black armor and helmets with multi-functional goggles. Panicking, he tried to get up, but as he turned, he felt a knife against his throat, its blade already nicking his skin. Edward froze, staring in terror at William and the others.
Gunnar, holding Edward at knifepoint, suddenly said, "Boss, this guy reeks of alcohol. He seems drunk."
No wonder Edward had been sound asleep when they entered the tent. Without wasting words, William nodded to Christmas, who injected a tranquilizer into Edward's neck. A few seconds later, a disgruntled Gunnar hoisted the unconscious Edward over his shoulder and carried him out of the tent.
With Edward secured, the next steps didn't involve William much. Gunnar would drive Edward to the coast, where Thor was waiting, ready to provide fire support if necessary.
