Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Vadal's past
"My husband," Lira replied, hugging her pillow.
Mrs. Ana stared at her, shocked. This was the first time Lira had referred to Vadal as her husband.
"Madam, are you..." Mrs. Ana trailed off, unsure of how to finish her question.
Lira noticed Mrs. Ana's shock and realized she had said something unexpected. She felt a flutter in her chest, blushing, as if she had revealed a secret she hadn't meant to share.
Lira quickly recovered, her expression smoothing out. "I mean, my husband, Vadal," she said, her voice casual. "He's always busy with work, and I get lonely sometimes."
Mrs. Ana's expression was skeptical, her eyes narrowing slightly. She had been working for Vadal's family for years and had never seen Lira display such affection towards Vadal before.
Despite her skepticism, Mrs. Ana decided to let the matter drop. "Very well, madam," she said. "I shall tell you a story. But first, let me get you some tea."
Lira felt a surge of relief, okay.
Mrs. Ana exited the room, leaving Lira alone with her thoughts. Lira's mind began to wander, wondering what story Mrs. Ana would tell her.
As she waited for Mrs. Ana to return, Lira couldn't help but reflect on her past behavior. She had been so consumed by her hatred for Vadal, so blinded by her desire for revenge.
But now, as she sat in the quiet comfort of her room, Lira realized that her feelings towards Vadal were no longer clear-cut. She felt a pang of guilt, knowing that she had wronged him in the past.
Mrs. Ana returned with a tray, bearing a steaming teapot and two delicate cups. "Here we are, madam," she said, pouring the tea with a steady hand.
Mrs. Ana handed Lira a cup of tea, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "Now, madam, let me tell you a story. It's a story about Vadal's past, one that few people know."
Lira's curiosity was piqued, her eyes locking onto Mrs. Ana's. "What is it, Mrs. Ana?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mrs. Ana took a deep breath, her eyes drifting back in time. "You see, madam, Vadal's childhood was not an easy one. He grew up without a mother, and his father...well, let's just say his father was not the most loving person."
Lira's eyes widened in surprise, her mind racing with questions. She had never heard Vadal speak of his childhood, never suspected that he had endured such hardships.
Mrs. Ana continued, her voice weaving a spell of enchantment around Lira. "Despite the difficulties he faced, Vadal grew into a strong, capable young man. But there was one person who helped shape him into the person he is today..."
Lira's curiosity got the better of her, and she interrupted Mrs. Ana, her voice filled with questions. "Who was it, Mrs. Ana? Who helped shape Vadal's life?"
Mrs. Ana smiled, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Ah, madam, you are impatient, aren't you? Very well, I shall tell you. But first, let me pour you another cup of tea."
Lira nodded, her eyes never leaving Mrs. Ana's face. She was eager to hear the rest of the story, to learn more about Vadal's past.
Mrs. Ana poured the tea, her hands moving with a steady precision. "It was his mentor, madam. A man named Marcus Alexandria.
He took Vadal under his wing, taught him the ways of business and helped him build his empire."
Lira's eyes widened in surprise. She had never heard of Marcus before, never suspected that Vadal had a mentor who had played such a significant role in his life.
Lira's curiosity was piqued, and she asked Mrs. Ana more questions about Marcus and his relationship with Vadal. "What was Marcus like, Mrs. Ana? Was he a good mentor to Vadal?"
Mrs. Ana's eyes took on a faraway look, and she smiled warmly. "Marcus was a kind and wise man, madam. He saw something in Vadal that no one else did - potential. He took Vadal under his wing and taught him everything he knew."
Lira's interest was piqued, and she leaned forward, her eyes locked onto Mrs. Ana's. "What happened to Marcus, Mrs. Ana? Is he still alive?"
Mrs. Ana's expression turned somber, and she shook her head. "No, madam. Marcus passed away a few years ago. Vadal was devastated by his loss."
Lira's thoughts turned inward, and she reflected on what Mrs. Ana had told her. She realized that Vadal's past was more complex than she had ever imagined, and that he had experienced pain and loss.
Lira's thoughts were a jumble of emotions as she processed what Mrs. Ana had told her. She felt a pang of guilt for judging Vadal so harshly, for not seeing the complexity of his character.
Mrs. Ana observed Lira's thoughtful expression and nodded to herself. She had hoped that sharing Vadal's story would help Lira see him in a new light.
Lira looked up at Mrs. Ana, her eyes searching. "Mrs. Ana, do you think Vadal is happy?"
Mrs. Ana paused, collecting her thoughts before responding. "I think Vadal is a man with many responsibilities, madam. He has a great deal of weight on his shoulders. But as for happiness...I think that is something he is still searching for."
Lira's thoughts turned inward once again, and she reflected on Mrs. Ana's words. She realized that she had been so focused on her own feelings, her own desires, that she had never stopped to consider Vadal's.
Lira's thoughts were filled with a newfound determination. She decided that she wanted to try and get to know Vadal better, to understand what made him happy. She felt a sense of curiosity and wonder that she had never experienced before.
Mrs. Ana smiled, seeming to approve of Lira's decision. "That's a wonderful idea, madam," she said. "I'm sure Vadal would appreciate the effort."
Lira felt a surge of excitement at the prospect of getting to know Vadal better. She couldn't wait to start asking him questions, to learn more about his thoughts and feelings.
Mrs. Ana continued her story, her voice filled with emotion. "Marcus was more than just a mentor to Vadal, madam. He was like a father to him. And when Marcus passed away, Vadal was devastated."
Lira's eyes were wide with interest, her mind racing with questions. "What happened to Marcus, Mrs. Ana?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mrs. Ana's expression turned somber, her eyes clouding over. "Marcus died under mysterious circumstances, madam. He was searching for his lost daughter, Sophia, and...well, it's a long story. But before he died, he asked Vadal to promise him one thing."
Lira's curiosity was piqued, her mind racing with questions. "What did Marcus ask Vadal to do, Mrs. Ana?" she asked, her voice filled with anticipation.
