Chapter 4: First Kill and Astonishing Gains
Refugees are the largest group in doomsday games, and their composition is quite complex. Among them are scavengers, criminals, thugs, and cultists of evil gods. The followers of the evil god are the rarest among the refugees. They regularly perform human sacrifices to communicate with their so-called "gods" to gain power.
Although the number of followers of the evil god is the smallest among the refugees, their fanaticism and aggressiveness are the strongest. Some of them even possess strange abilities. Players discovered by these followers rarely survive.
Roger's breathing almost stopped at this moment, but his heartbeat was speeding up. After glancing at the Glock 17 pistol in his hand, he made a bold decision. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
Followers of the evil god are indeed dangerous and can be a nightmare for newcomers. However, if Roger could kill them, the rewards would be immense. According to the training information from the base city, killing the followers of the evil god could yield rare materials and weapons, crucial for surviving the first round of doomsday disasters.
The chatter of the evil god's followers outside the door grew louder. Roger focused all his attention on the 3D model map of the station in his mind. The two red dots representing the followers were approaching the employee lounge where he was hiding. Apart from these two, there were no other enemies in the station.
The footsteps of the followers could already be heard outside the door, less than two meters away from Roger, separated only by a wall.
"Let's rest here for a bit before heading to tonight's event," one of the followers said, opening the door to the lounge.
As soon as he entered, he saw a shadow in the corner of the wall. His battle-hardened instincts made him shout out.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Continuous gunfire erupted as Roger emptied his magazine into the two men. He quickly realized they were wearing bulletproof vests, so he aimed for their heads.
When the firing pin clicked on an empty chamber, Roger gasped for air. Both men were dead, disbelief etched on their faces. He quickly dragged the bodies inside and closed the door, holding the enemy's gun in his hand, his eyes fixed on the virtual map.
After a tense two minutes with no new enemies appearing, Roger inspected the bodies and equipment.
"Haha, I hit the jackpot!" he exclaimed, removing the weapons and gear from the bodies:
1 PM submachine gun (magazine with 30 rounds of 9×18mm caliber bullets)
1 AK-74 compatible magazine (30 rounds of 5.45×39mm caliber bullets)
2 PL-15 pistols (each with a magazine of 16 rounds of 9×19 caliber bullets)
5 F-1 defensive fragmentation grenades
1 Damascus dagger
1 6h5 bayonet
1 terrorist balaclava
1 half-face mask
2 PACA soft bulletproof vests (level 2)
1 MK1 chest hanger
1 SOE micro chest hanger
6 sterile bandages
1 gold star ointment
2 beef sausages
1 bottled beer
30,000 doomsday coins
The sheer amount of loot made Roger dizzy with excitement. He quickly gathered the items and returned to his hiding place.
Back at his hideout, Roger finally had time to sort the loot and inspect the doomsday coins—denominated in 1,000-coin notes. He also noticed that upgrading his rest area required some of these coins.
After confirming the upgrade, a soft glow enveloped the materials on the bed, signaling the process had begun.
