Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Flender Realizes He’s in Over His Head
After some thought, Dai Mubai nodded. "Got it. I'll go now."
For the first time in her life, Ning Rongrong was treated in such a manner. No matter how rational she usually was, she couldn't help but feel hurt.
"Flender, you're truly something. I've never met anyone who dared to treat me like this. Impressive. Really impressive."
Hearing Ning Rongrong's words, Flender felt a slight relief. He wasn't afraid of her anger—what scared him was her calmness. If she really left, his Shrek Academy might not survive the aftermath.
Emboldened, his tone turned even more sarcastic.
"Just because your father spoils you doesn't mean I have to. You're not my daughter or my treasure."
"To me, every other student here is better than you."
"Your Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda is undoubtedly one of the strongest auxiliary martial souls, but you're nothing more than a disgrace to it."
Ning Rongrong laughed, but the heaving of her chest betrayed her inner turmoil.
She had always known herself to be the most talented disciple of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan in her generation. Despite having several older brothers, none had broken through rank 20 before the age of twelve as she had.
Her father, the clan leader, had once declared her the only genius in centuries with the potential to evolve the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda into the Eight Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda.
Now, Flender's accusations of her being worthless were unbearable to her pride.
"Alright, Flender. You're amazing. You're the first person to make me this angry!"
"Tell me, how exactly have I disgraced my clan? If you can't give me a convincing answer, I guarantee your entire academy will be wiped out by tomorrow!"
With those words, Ning Rongrong pulled out a special signal flare, her hand gripping the fuse as though ready to launch it at any moment.
This sudden turn of events left everyone dumbfounded.
Wasn't this just about running laps? How had it escalated to life-and-death stakes?
Yun Feng, observing the scene, realized the situation had veered slightly from his original plan but still aligned with his goals.
At the very least, this incident would leave a lasting impression on the Shrek students. Even Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing would tread carefully around Ning Rongrong in the future.
Xiao Wu, being a soul beast, naturally worried about the possibility of Ning Rongrong's grandfathers arriving. Zhu Zhuqing, ever reserved, would avoid unnecessary trouble now that she'd glimpsed Ning Rongrong's true character.
As for the boys, they were undoubtedly rattled.
With this in mind, Yun Feng stepped forward.
"Dean Flender, this is just about unfinished laps. Isn't this a bit excessive?"
"If you insist on pursuing this, then allow me to say a few words."
Flender was already sweating nervously. Ning Rongrong's fierce gaze left no doubt that she wasn't bluffing. Now that Yun Feng had stepped forward, Flender nodded reluctantly, trying to maintain composure.
"Go ahead. What do you have to say?"
Yun Feng wasted no time, turning directly to Ning Rongrong.
"Rongrong, if the dean says something you don't like later, just consider me withdrawn from Shrek Academy. I've only just joined and have no deep attachment to this place."
His words left everyone stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Even Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing stepped forward in support.
"We agree with Yun Feng. If you want everyone here dead, we can simply leave the academy."
Following their lead, Tang San hesitated briefly before nodding resolutely.
"Same here."
Even Ma Hongjun, knowing Ning Rongrong's background, nervously muttered, "Teacher, maybe… maybe we should just let this go. It's not worth it."
Flender had been prepared for Yun Feng to argue on his behalf but was utterly blindsided by this betrayal.
He'd gone out of his way to accommodate Yun Feng, opening countless doors for him. Yet with a few words, Yun Feng had completely destabilized the group's morale.
Resentment welled up in Flender as he noticed Yun Feng's name flickering on the Heaven-Suppressing Tablet within Yun Feng's spiritual sea, though it had yet to be etched with the engraving knife.
Ning Rongrong, despite her fiery temper, wasn't bloodthirsty. She nodded at Yun Feng's statement.
"Of course. I just want Flender to explain himself. If his answer doesn't satisfy me, you're free to leave the academy."
Turning to Flender, she coldly asked, "Have you thought about what you're going to say? How exactly have I disgraced my clan? My patience is running thin."
Flender knew that continuing to argue would only worsen the situation. He felt his pride crumbling as he weighed the consequences.
With a deep sigh, he silently reached into his pocket, retrieving Ning Fengzhi's letter and tossing it to Ning Rongrong.
Though puzzled, she accepted the letter and began reading.
Her expression shifted to one of amusement as she read, her tone turning sarcastic.
"So, this is why a mere soul saint dares act so boldly. You have my father's permission, huh?"
"But nowhere in this letter does it say you should discipline me so harshly. Are you waving this around like a decree from the heavens?"
Flender knew the letter's contents well. Ning Fengzhi had only asked him to guide and protect his daughter, promising a generous reward afterward.
Flender's intent had been to suppress Ning Rongrong's unruly tendencies, assuming that breaking her pride would make her easier to manage—along with other prodigies like Yun Feng.
But he had underestimated Ning Rongrong's will.
Realizing he had no other options, Flender admitted defeat.
"I was wrong. It was my mistake. I shouldn't have used such extreme methods. I only wanted to temper your character and set an example for others."
Hearing this, Ning Rongrong's expression softened slightly.
"Not bad, but you also accused me of disgracing my clan. Care to elaborate on that? Who here is better than me?"
Her confidence was unmistakable. Apart from Yun Feng and Xiao Wu, she genuinely didn't belie
ve anyone at Shrek Academy surpassed her.
Of course, her knowledge was limited to their soul power levels.
