Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 154: Might of the Forlorn

It was a bit much to call it even, though his pride loathed to admit it. Di Tian once ruled the skies as the leader of the remnants of the Dragon Clan and the earth as the Beast God. Everything was perfect, idyllic in a way. There was room for improvement of course, his King awakening being the first to come to mind, but it was a wonderful era. One that ended far sooner than he expected.

That damned Sea God was the first to show Di Tian the flaws in his peace, the strength that humanity could accomplish. He, however, was a god when they met and so though it was painful to be beaten by a human, it was acceptable. There was an inherent difference between mortals and gods after all, one that could only be briefly breached by relying on the legacy he had inherited.

Huo Yuhao was the second to reveal the cracks forming in the prosperity of the Spirit Beasts, his technology and spiritual prowess creating a monster. He had also been touched by divinity however Di Tian didn't believe that was the only reason for his defeat. So he accepted the Spirit Ice Douluo's proposition to create a group that would create a long lasting peace between both species.

But it failed quickly, far quicker than Di Tian would have imagined. The Spirit Pagoda that he had helped found grew corrupt, the once brilliant and noble dream twisted and changed until it was merely a shell of its former self. It was a failure, his failure, and with that failure came the end of the era of spirit beasts.

Technology grew too strong, the once impenetrable hides of the spirit beasts suddenly flimsy shields before the new weapons of humanity. With his failure an era belonging to humanity and humanity alone washes over this world. It had lasted a thousand years and would likely last a thousand more.

But that wasn't the case anymore. The Spirit Pagoda had been a failure, a monumental failure that shook Di Tian's confidence but a new path had been opened by none other than the King he had abandoned. A path forged by two kings, a path toward coexistence soaked in blood.

With the help of that King and FUG's greatest minds, Di Tian had been given a four word battle armor of his own. Now with the power of humanity at his behest and his strength as the Beast God that once went unrivaled. Logically speaking, he should be the strongest barring the not so Lone King.

'Yet, he's playing with me.' Baring his fangs, the golden eyed black dragon that was the current Beast God glared at Yun Ming. Neither took this battle seriously, they knew they stood on the same side of this matter, but both were experienced enough to know how this would have gone should those not be factors.

Di Tian would lose, badly. He would be the closest to victory out all this world's population but he would still lose. Judging by the smirk on the Atlas Douluo's face, he knew that as well. His impenetrable black scales coated in the slithering darkness born from his battle armor were cleaved apart time and time again by that pure white spear that split the heavens and earth.

Their battle was cataclysmic, the Spirit Pagoda's tower that Di Tian had once helped found crumbling as both he and the Atlas Douluo were sent flying through it. Stepping out of the rubble, wires and arrays alike laying destroyed all around him, Di Tian let out a roar of indignation for the nth time.

Soaring back to his opponent, Di Tian's wounds were already healed by the time he once more clashed with that white spear. His claw met the weapon proudly, space itself twisted as his domineering power and the power of the law of Heaven battled for supremacy in a space no larger than a grain of sand.

An explosion sent the two flying back once more but space twisted, the slithering darkness spreading around like a living domain as Di Tian distorted space to pull him back toward the Atlas Douluo who had only been sent back a few hundred meters while Di Tian would have been sent straight through the Spirit Pagoda once more.

A low growl left the Beast God's sharp maw, his golden eyes glaring endlessly at the Atlas Douluo but the only hatred in that gaze belonged to himself and himself alone. Di Tian couldn't stand the thought of being weak, of being a burden. It was a feeling of uselessness that he hadn't felt since the day he watched his brethren be slaughtered by the hundreds.

Once, that feeling had bubbled into an unceasing hatred at this very world but now it had simmered into a raging inferno of determination. That was why, even when the Atlas Douluo's spear cleaved through his flesh and his blood was spilled the Beast God did not fall back.

'So this is the Beast God.' Smiling broadly, Yun Ming swung his spear vertically. There was no grace to the technique, the epitome of simplicity, and yet the clouds split farther than even he could see as crimson clouds formed in the clear heavens.

The black dragon's form was nearly cut in two, blood and flesh raining down as though thousands had just died. If Yun Ming wasn't careful, thousands would have died. That was the power of the once strongest, the might of the pinnacle of humanity.

"Don't underestimate the might of the spirit beasts!" Roaring with unwavering resolve, the Atlas Douluo found his spear lodged in the power chest muscles of the Beast God. A clawed fist struck him in the chest, human blood spilling as a claw punctured his lung and the rest of the blow sent him flying back.

The spirit beasts hadn't yet lost to humanity.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

I always find that people tend to like the chapters focusing on the side characters' battles the least entertaining, but I personally rather like them. Until now, Di Tian was somebody even I couldn't truly understand but after this chapter, I feel like I have a better understanding of his character. The battle is obviously important, but these moments can't be ignored either.
