Chapter 159: Heaven's Iris
Yuena was no fool. She understood the cost of war expanded far beyond herself as somebody who had memories of numerous battlefields on a universal scale. But seeing it with her own eyes lit the flame of regret despite it all.
Her kin were victorious, the Spirit Pagoda falling short in comparison to their fangs, but loss was inevitable. Laying sprawled out, covered in wounds and blood, their glorious bodies torn asunder by the blades of humanity. Her kin were dying.
They had accepted that risk and so had she and yet seeing that price be fulfilled was something she could never forgive. Unfortunately, the emotions of a ruler were often of less importance than the goal. Her other half had shown her the vibrancy of humanity but she was an empress, a ruler whose goals mattered more than the means. Emotions were worthless.
She understood that, at this very moment, her feelings were inconsequential. Yet seeing the pain in her partner's onyx eyes, the torment radiating off him in waves only she could perceive, it broke her heart. Standing opposite one another, forces neither wished to lead behind them, was the accursed fate they had chosen.
Yuena's body was torn apart by the one she loved, her glorious blood filling the air. She was a martyr much like her people, a sacrifice given up in favor of peace for those who would come after them. But unlike her people, she wasn't allowed to give the ultimate sacrifice. She would have to live with the sin of their deaths forever more.
'Sorry Wulin, you'll have to take the brunt of my aggression.' The frown she wore was sincere but it wasn't from the fallen Spirit Pagoda members. Pressing her hands together, it wasn't divinity that flowed between her fingers but rather the unrestrained power of the heavenly tribulation.
In theory, the heavenly tribulation was a simple combination of elements. The lightning element plus all nine core attributes and then you got the heavenly tribulation. Naturally, that was easier said than done. Ignoring the use of all the elements, just possessing the latter two of destruction and creation was enough to make it impossible.
Yuena fulfilled all conditions and even she found it impossible to use. After all, the heavenly tribulation wasn't just powerful because it contained all nine attributes but also because it gathered and utilized the energy of heaven and earth as a suppressant and enhancer all at once.
The Silver Dragon Emperor could do both parts individually but combined and they became far too difficult. Drawing a square and a circle at once was hard for most people and yet what she was trying to do was akin to drawing a dozen different shapes all at once. Not even she could do that at the moment. In the future though…
Regardless, Yuena didn't need that second step anyway. Harming a god with half baked heavenly tribulation was already in the realm of possibilities let alone when Wulin was technically only a Hyper Douluo at the moment.
Holding a ball of nine colored lightning in her grasp, Yuena merely spread her fingers before the roar of thunder filled the surroundings. A bright blast of nine colored light filled the sky for an instant, the scent of something burning permeating the blood filled Spirit Pagoda.
The brilliant bolt of pure power had illuminated the sky above the entirety of the city for a brief instant, a single moment where history had been made. It was hard to say whether the silence surrounding the battlefield came from the explosion of black and white, the fleeting nine colored sky, or something else but the answer quickly came to the people whose hearts beat softly and whose breath was halted in fear of being too presumptuous.
Malice. That was the only word that could possibly explain the feeling that gripped on their hearts tightly like death's cold palm. It was silent yet seething, its roars impossible to comprehend yet bloodcurdling nevertheless. It was malice that couldn't be understood, not now nor in a million years. It was the malice of a god.
It was stifling, controlling, and inescapable. The frigid hand of domination held them in place as waves of power shook the very fabric of reality. Crimson tainted the world as everything was bathed in its glow, falling apart at the seams from the mere touch of the light.
A small hole no larger than a pin cut through the lavish black robes adorning the devil however that was far from where it ended. The strike of lightning that split the heavens did little more than create a small line upon the God of Devils flesh. It was the first wound of a god from a mortal in history however it was nothing more than a paper cut at best.
But from the meager cut, a droplet of pure annihilation flowed. Destruction brought to its extremities revealed itself to the world in that instant, malice far worse than anything the God of Devils had cast upon them scalding the world. Spirit Douluos clutched at their throats, madness nearly taking over their minds before they could even blink.
Any unfortunate enough to be too weak to resist that malice was unhesitating in slitting their own throat, gouging out their eyes, and piercing their hearts. Madness flowed freely through the world, the crimson glow that shook the world the least of their concerns.
"..." With no emotions on his face yet seething rage emanating from him, Luslec raised a single finger toward the panting Yuena. Wielding the Heavenly Tribulation was difficult but certainly possible, it just strained her more than her other options. But if it could pierce even Luslec's indomitable skin then it was certainly worth it.
Unfortunately, Yuena didn't have much time to worry about such trivial matters as the crimson glow condensed itself back into a single droplet of blood before Luslec's delicate fingertip. All the power and malice that had nearly singlehandedly destroyed the Spirit Pagoda roared silently in challenge to her, the Silver Dragon Empress.
A challenge that would certainly end in her death.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.
Not sure how impactful it feels but Yuena wielding the heavenly tribulation even in such a half baked form is incredibly important. Wulin may only be a Hyper Douluo at the moment, but his body is so monstrously strong that it may as well be of a higher tier like a god's would be. It's harder to harm Wulin's body while in |Level 1| than it would be to harm your average 3rd Class God.
