Chapter 165: Apple of the Jade Eye
"Come on Xie Xie, what would Teacher Wu think seeing you hide under the covers on the first day of class." Rolling his eyes grabbed the blanket and pulled but it didn't move an inch. "Why'd you have to grab my blanket, you bastard." Clicking his tongue Wulin let go of the blanket in fear of ripping it. After all, it was one of the many items Yuena had picked out for him.
Falling into his seat, Wulin crossed his legs and rested his head upon his palm. Wulin wasn't fully aware of the details since he was out and about all night but apparently, Xie Xie had gotten himself into a bit of trouble.
"...Go on ahead." Xie Xie's voice was filled with so much shame that it was almost hard to recognize the awe contained within. In that instant, Wulin knew exactly what problem was plaguing Xie Xie.
"It's a girl isn't it?" Wulin's teasing grin spread from ear to ear as Xie Xie flinched underneath the covers. It was so obvious but, as it always was, the person involved couldn't recognize it. For the last few years, Xie Xie only surrounded himself with women he saw as family so it must be unfamiliar to him. Love, that is.
"How'd you know?" Popping his head out of the covers, Xie Xie couldn't hide his curiosity dancing within his emerald eyes. In the face of those genuinely amazed eyes, Wulin decided to keep the fact he was about to ask whether it was a boy instead a secret.
"Let's call it experience." Chuckling curiously, Wulin looked at his friend warmly. Xie Xie had helped him through numerous challenges without even knowing it so Wulin was more than glad to repay the favor. And if he got a little teasing material from it, well, that wouldn't be his fault, right? "So what happened?" Pulling his seat closer, Wulin was excited to hear the details.
"Last night, after coming back from training with Teacher Wu, I felt the presence of an evil soul master on the second floor." At first, Wulin was simply nodding along at Xie Xie's explanation but even he froze when those words. He had completely forgotten about her and it seemed like Yuena had as well. This was… very bad.
"You didn't do anything drastic did you?" With withering optimism in his eyes, Wulin couldn't help but rub his brow in growing worry. Evil soul masters were… a bit of a sore spot among his peers, to put it nicely. When one was involved, it was hard to gauge how they'd react. "Keep going." Motioning for Xie Xie to continue, Wulin could only pray that all hope wasn't lost.
"Well, I uh…" Fidgeting in his seat, Wulin felt his worry growing by the second. Xie Xie was calm, always watching and waiting for the best moment. He was patient and knew the perfect moment to strike. For him to be this concerned was nothing if not terrible. "I-I may have pinned her to the wall while she was showering?" Hesitantly answering, Xie Xie's smile was far from reassuring.
In an instant, any hope Wulin had was shattered.

Yuanen Yuhei was stunned for lack of a better word. She was in a bad mood today and rightfully so and then she still had to deal with the resumption of classes. She was annoyed and growing more irritable by the second. She felt like she was about to explode any second now.
And then… he arrived. She wasn't sure if it was his tyrannical aura that couldn't be hidden or the seedling of fear that he had been planted on the day of the tournament, but the unmistakable face of the second ranked youth in the world, the Dragon of Destruction Tang Wulin, interrupting her class and looking specifically for her… well she couldn't help but be a little nervous.
"So, uh, why are you looking for me?" Yuanen spoke somewhat hesitantly, a stark contrast to her usual bold nature but she could say she wanted to be on the other end of those fists. If he could destroy a phoenix she couldn't even touch with a single blow she didn't want to know how much a punch from him would hurt. Hell, would she even feel pain before she died?
"It's complicated. Just think of it as helping your junior out and come with me, will you?" His tone was strained and far more awkward than she would have expected from somebody so powerful but it did make him a bit more approachable. Maybe, just maybe, he was a human too underneath all that monstrous talent.
But when she was led into one of the more deserted training fields, she couldn't help but feel like following him was a mistake. The air was heavy and tension permeated the air so thickly that she felt like she was walking through water rather than air.
"Have you heard about the war against evil soul masters that happened in Skysea City three years ago?" A sigh left the humanoid dragon as the pressure slowly faded away, the sweat that began forming on her brow from strain suddenly fading away as a faint breeze washed over her.
"Of course." She would be the first to admit that her reply was a little snarky but she couldn't help it, she was basically just asked if she lived under a rock or not. That tragedy may have only spanned a single night but it was still a night to remember.
The declaration of war from the evil soul masters, the second act of Grace Mirchea Luslec, the destruction of half the city, and a worldwide panic that had still yet to subside. It was a day that couldn't be forgotten whether now or in a thousand years.
"That makes things easy then." This time, his sigh was full of relief as he grabbed at something beside him. "My class and I were a part of that tragedy. That day, a lot of things that could never be forgotten happened. To all of us. So I won't ask that you forgive him but I'd like you to understand why he reacted so negatively to your second martial soul."
The familiar orangish blond hair that suddenly materialized before her and those striking jade eyes instantly made her blood boil. Stomping forward, she only stopped herself from beating him senselessly because of what he did.
"I know it won't make up for what I did but I apologize." Bowing deeply, deeper than she would have done to Grace Mirchea fucking Luslec, his words were undoubtedly sincere. "Feel free to hit me as much as you like, it's the least I can do."
He was sincere, that much was clear. She wasn't sure how he had sensed her Fallen Angel martial soul but she could see why that would create such a situation too. A kinder soul would have forgiven him. But she was far from kind.
"Clench your teeth you bastard." Gritting her teeth Yuanen Yuhei was far from satisfied with a simple apology. Besides, he had offered it himself so he should be prepared for her revenge anyhow. She wouldn't feel bad about hitting a bastard like him.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.
I didn't plan on introducing Yuanen Yuhei here nor did I imagine it to be in such a way but honestly, I prefer this way more than whatever I had in store before. Yuanen has always been of my least favorite characters in DD3, she just didn't feel very interesting, but seeing her beat up Xie Xie... that pushed her up a few spots.
