Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 166: Bear Bears Burdens

Stepping through the door to their class, for the first time in quite a while, Wulin wasn't the center of attention. Instead, it was the battered and bruised form of Xie Xie who walked in like a deadman.

And that meant Wulin had all the time in the world to survey his peers. To get into Shrek, it was natural to be talented however there were some who stood above the rest. Namely, those on the Spirit Pagoda's list of talents.

First and most obviously intriguing was the third ranked genius, the Hellcat Wu Sidou. She was talented, courageous, and clearly hated his guts. Ever since they walked in and her shock subsided, she had turned her hate filled glare on him without fail.

Then was Wulin's personal favorite, the ninth ranked genius Golden Bear Yang Nianxia. He was said to be a monster of physical strength that could even bridge the gap between realms to some extent. Truthfully, Wulin was excited at the idea of having someone to compete against in his strong suit even if he did think it was a somewhat naive dream.

Shackler Luo Guixing, the fourth ranked genius, was somebody to pay attention to as well. He may not have much direct combat ability but he was the heart of any team he was a part of, elevating them with his mere presence. His control of the space element and his intellect made him a monstrous opponent worthy of the utmost respect.

The twelfth ranked genius, Verdant Snake Zheng Yiran, was Xie Xie's version of Wu Sidou, their glares were nearly identical. If he remembered correctly, she had thrown a fit when Xie Xie stole the word 'Jade' from her title and demanded it be changed. It was a wasted effort but it was a worrying attitude.

Finally the eighth ranked youth genius in the world, Stellar Sword Ye Yinglan was… hard to read, even for him. She was like a blade, sharp yet well restrained, which was incredibly unusual for her age. If anything, Wulin was more worried than impressed. Xie Xie may be a perfect assassin but even he smiled and shouted but she showed none of that.

"Take a seat." Breaking the silence that had lasted only a short few moments, Wu Zhangkong wore the ghost of a frown. Xie Xie may be a trouble maker but he was Wu Zhangkong's student and that meant that he was under the Sky Ice Douluo's protection. It was unlikely but if Xie Xie was being mistreated…

Fortunately, Wulin's lackadaisical attitude made it clear even to the enraged Wu Zhangkong that nothing was wrong. Or rather, nothing of importance had occurred. For that reason, Wu Zhangkong decided to hold his tongue and avert his eyes should the news of a few new bodies reach his ears.

[This seems like an interesting class.] Tang San's soft laughter echoed through Wulin's spiritual sea, a nearly identical smile of amusement on both father and son. Though the world may be turbulent and universal threats were approaching, it seemed that Shrek would never fail to have an interesting generation.

𝒲𝒽𝒶𝓉'𝓈 𝓌𝓇𝑜𝓃𝑔 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝒽𝒾𝓂?

The soft and regal voice of Gu Yuena made Wulin's smile grow a tad warmer in an instant, his crimson eyes darting to the side and meeting her violet irises. Yuena and Xie Xie weren't the closest of the bunch but they were still comrades who faced the horrors of war together, to see him in such a state was every bit as infuriating as it was amusing.

 𝐇𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝.

Melodious laughter accompanied that vague answer but even still, Yuena felt like she got a clear picture. Xie Xie had done something horrible, felt bad, and apologized by placing his body on the line. But what could he have done?

…ℋ𝑒 𝒹𝒾𝒹 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝑜 𝒽𝑒𝓇, 𝒹𝒾𝒹𝓃'𝓉 𝒽𝑒?

Nodding his head, Wulin's expression dimmed slightly. Yuanen Yuhei was… easily forgettable, to be blunt. She was rarely in the dorm, always working to pay for her tuition, and there were a few things more important than her happening these days so she slipped Yuena's mind. Now though it was clear that was a mistake.

Sighing heavily, Yuena could only hope for the best. She doubted they'd have many interactions with her so it should be fine. It was a shame though, with her apparent temper Yuanen Yuhei might have been able to keep Xie Xie in check.

"I won't be repeating anything so don't bother asking." Speaking coldly to his two late students, Wu Zhangkong was drawing a line in the sand. He was proving that he would be equally cold to everyone, no matter if they were his personal students or not. "Get up and follow me."

Glancing at Gu Yuena she simply shrugged with a playful grin. Rolling his eyes, Wulin didn't mind the challenge all too much. Whether it be in cultivation or experience, the five of them were above their classmates, and if it was something truly difficult she would have explained.

"Come on, you gotta help me out!" Xie Xie, on the other hand, had plans of his own. He unreservedly begged Xu Xiaoyan for answers without regard for the attention on him and his almost healed wounds. Out of all of them, Xu Xiaoyan was the most likely to spill the beans but Xie Xie had underestimated something.

"Nope~!" Happily humming a time, Xu Xiaoyan ruthlessly destroyed Xie Xie's futile optimism with a smile on her face. Xu Xiaoyan was the most likely to spill the beans, that was true. At one point that is.

After her recent enlightenment and change in martial soul, her confidence had risen and she no longer felt like the weakling of the group. She felt like they could stand by each other and somehow or another, that resulted in her becoming far more of a little devil. Funny considering she stood beside the God of Devils but Wulin would keep that to himself.

Fortunately for Xie Xie, things quickly became clear when they entered a similar vortual space to what the Spirit Pagoda used. This one however lacked the capability to recreate life and instead had only one function, the inability to die or sustain permanent damage.

"Christmas came early." Grinning widely, Wulin's crimson eyes burned with excitement as he stood before the Golden Bear himself. A challenge was… too much to expect but he could at least test out his growth from learning under the Body Sect.

"If getting beat up is your holiday, I don't want to be at your Christmas party." Yang Nainxin joked playfully but his gaze was anything but. He stood before a monster of pure power that could rival Title Douluos and destroy anything with his fists, he would be a fool to expect things to go easily, in fact he wasn't even sure if this would go well let alone the way he wanted.

A split second later, the virtual forest they inhabited became a wasteland.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

Finally, I got to introduce more of the Youth Genius ranking! The main five characters are good but having more relevant characters their age is important too. To clarify though, the ranking is made by the Spirit Pagoda and is therefore biased and inaccurate. It isn't so bad as to allow a weakling in the top ten but it's certainly wrong which is why Mu Xi is currently 10th even after her recent accomplishments for example.
