Douluo Dalu: Starting Evolution as the Man-Faced Demon Spider

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Ghost Tiger

The first wave of human soul masters rushing to support arrived just in time to witness Fang Chang finishing off the three soul beast hunters, who lay dead at his feet.

Someone recognized the bodies and pointed at them. "It's Shen Mazi and his two brothers—they're soul beast hunters."

Fang Chang's eight eyes narrowed as he scanned both sides. Numerous translucent panels flickered before him, displaying the attributes of these human soul masters.

Fortunately, there were no soul masters of the Soul Sect's four-ring level among them, which brought him a slight sense of relief. But his tension returned immediately.

Given his current strength, ordinary three-ring soul masters posed little threat to him—unless they had special trump cards.

However, the sheer number of soul masters present was daunting and continued to grow.

For now, these soul masters, seeing the three icy corpses on the ground, hesitated to act rashly. No one wanted to be the first to step forward and confront Fang Chang.

Seizing the moment, Fang Chang studied the panels before him, calculating the direction with the fewest and weakest soul masters.

In the next instant, he leaped into action. Activating his skill "Leap," he darted southwestward.

This direction led toward the Star Dou Forest's core, where high-level soul beasts were far more abundant than in other areas.

Perhaps it was due to this danger that fewer human soul masters pursued him from this direction.

Ahead, three human soul masters blocked his path. Their soul power hovered around level 33. Seeing the mutated Man-Faced Demon Spider charging toward them, they panicked.

The one on the left quickly dodged aside. The one in the middle crouched instinctively. Only the female soul master on the far right froze in place until her companion tugged at the hem of her skirt, prompting her to crouch as well.

Fang Chang landed half a meter before them and leaped again, soaring over their heads and continuing southwest.

"Useless!"

"What are you doing?"

The other soul masters cursed in unison at the trio's inaction. But after venting their frustration, they all pursued Fang Chang together.

The group chasing Fang Chang grew larger as more soul masters joined the pursuit. Occasionally, long-range attacks came from behind, slowing Fang Chang's speed.

Suddenly, a purple lightning bolt struck one of Fang Chang's spider legs, severing it completely and emitting the stench of charred flesh.

Instinctively, Fang Chang turned his head and saw a winged man closing in, now less than a meter behind him. The lightning attack had come from this soul master.

Name: Lu Lei

Race: Human

Soul Power: Level 39 Soul Elder

Martial Soul: Purple Lightning Owl

A flying opponent who could also emit electricity, with soul power as high as level 39—this was a formidable adversary.

As Lu Lei approached, a black shadow streaked in from the distance, bypassing the crowd with incredible speed. It was Du Hongxue from the Spirit Hall's Zhenshui City branch.

Transformed into a shadow, her movement was even faster than Lu Lei's, and she rapidly closed the distance to Fang Chang.

The shadow morphed into the figure of a voluptuous woman in a fiery red dress.

Without hesitation, Du Hongxue hurled a black orb at Fang Chang.

The orb's unexpected trajectory precisely intercepted Fang Chang's next move.

Just as Fang Chang leaped again, he glimpsed the orb in the corner of his eye. It struck him in the abdomen, sending him spinning mid-air and crashing into a massive ancient tree.

Before Fang Chang could recover, Lu Lei followed up. He clapped his hands together, creating an electric arc that struck Fang Chang's back.

The impact flung Fang Chang several meters away, leaving a charred patch on his back and wisps of black smoke rising.

Wracked with pain, Fang Chang shot a fiery glare at Lu Lei, who had activated his Martial Soul, and then at Du Hongxue, who was once again rushing toward him as a shadow.

Just as Fang Chang prepared to retaliate, the pursuing mob of soul masters had closed the distance again.

Gritting his teeth, Fang Chang turned and continued his flight.

No matter how much effort he exerted, he couldn't shake off Du Hongxue and Lu Lei. Their relentless attacks further injured him, depleting his health bar and worsening his condition.

At this rate, he would be worn down to death—it was only a matter of time.

At this critical moment, a menacing roar echoed from ahead.

"Roar—hoo! Roar—hoo!"

The sound, filled with defiance, seemed to convey its displeasure at these unwelcome intruders.

Following the sound, an entirely black soul beast—a tiger—emerged from behind an ancient tree.

Upon seeing it, Fang Chang was overjoyed. It was a Ghost Tiger, a soul beast he had sought for days without success. Now, it appeared at the perfect moment.

Species: Ghost Tiger

Soul Power: 3100 years

HP: 745/745

Strength: 157

Attack: 173

Defense: 162

Speed: 211

The Ghost Tiger emerged with the demeanor of a jungle king, cautiously observing Fang Chang.

It then turned its gaze to Du Hongxue and Lu Lei, who were closing in, and its roar weakened.

Finally, it noticed the horde of over a hundred soul masters.

The Ghost Tiger let out a feline yelp and turned tail, dashing away at full speed, shedding all signs of its previous arrogance.

But Fang Chang wouldn't let it escape so easily.

Charging toward the Ghost Tiger, Fang Chang forced it to zigzag and change directions repeatedly.

Behind them, Du Hongxue and Lu Lei also shifted directions to continue the chase, followed by the massive crowd of soul masters.

Caught in this chaotic pursuit, the Ghost Tiger could only lament its bad luck. It had done nothing wrong but somehow ended up embroiled in this mess!

As Fang Chang closed the distance to the Ghost Tiger, Du Hongxue and Lu Lei launched another attack—one with a black orb and another with purple lightning, converging on him.

A spark of inspiration struck Fang Chang. He leaped over the Ghost Tiger, letting the attacks hit it instead.

The Ghost Tiger howled in agony. Unlike Fang Chang, it didn't possess his freakish resilience. These two attacks alone inflicted severe injuries on the beast.
