Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Third Spirit Ring

Chapter 50: The Third Spirit Ring

After two days of waiting by the stream, Yang Zhentian and Yang Potian decided to try their luck elsewhere, reasoning that if they couldn't find a suitable spirit beast there, they could always return. But fate had a surprise in store for them—half a day after they left, they finally encountered a remarkable spirit beast.

As they passed through a dense part of the forest, a swarm of Sunset Wasps emerged, covering the sky. These wasps weren't large, about the size of an egg, but they were overwhelming in numbers. Yang Zhentian quickly grabbed his son and led him out of the area.

Still catching his breath, Yang Potian said, "Dad, were those Sunset Wasps? Why were there so many?"

"Yes, those were Sunset Wasps, unique to this forest and highly favored by agility-type spirit masters," replied Zhentian.

Potian thought for a moment, "Dad, something feels off. Why were the wasps moving in a single direction like that? It looked like they were chasing something."

Zhentian nodded, "You're right. Unless something went after their honey, which would be unbelievably bold. Sunset Wasps are one of the rulers of this forest and are notorious for attacking in swarms."

"Should we go check it out, Dad? Any spirit beast that would dare provoke Sunset Wasps is bound to be quite powerful."

After a moment of contemplation, Zhentian decided they would follow the wasps to see what was going on. Following the swarm's path, they arrived at a muddy clearing with a large bog. Sunset Wasps hovered above it for a long while before finally dispersing.

After a few more hours, a bear emerged from the muddy water. It looked somewhat clumsy but radiated a fierce strength. The bear rolled on the grass, shaking off some of the mud. Afterward, it trudged to a nearby stream, intending to wash off.

But luck seemed to abandon the bear, as a loud roar suddenly echoed. The bear's body jerked—something in the water had bitten it. In an instant, the water turned blood red as the bear struggled violently. Though it managed to drag itself onto the shore, its attacker followed.

Now visible in full, the bear was revealed to be a formidable 10,000-year-old Earth Demon Bear, a powerful creature known for its immense strength. In its own territory, few spirit beasts could challenge it. No wonder it had dared to steal honey from the Sunset Wasps.

But its opponent was even more intimidating—a massive, golden-scaled crocodile emerged from the stream. Armored with thick golden scales, the crocodile was over ten meters long. Its tail alone looked as deadly as a spiked club, with razor-sharp points at the tip.

Both Yang Zhentian and Yang Potian said in unison, "A Golden Crocodile!"

Upon closer inspection, Zhentian added, "No, that's not just any Golden Crocodile; it's a Golden Crocodile King."

Potian's eyes lit up. "Dad, what's the age of this Golden Crocodile King?"

"Judging by its size and teeth, it's somewhere between 3,500 and 4,000 years old," Zhentian replied.

"Perfect! I want this Golden Crocodile King as my third spirit ring!"

In the ensuing battle, the Earth Demon Bear, despite its strength, was quickly overpowered by the Golden Crocodile King. One of its arms was torn off, and its powerful swipes left only shallow scratches on the crocodile's armor, without even drawing blood.

Zhentian swiftly summoned his spirit, the Breaking Soul Spear, surrounded by eight spirit rings that glowed as he dashed into the fray. He struck the Golden Crocodile King square in the mouth, piercing a deep wound. However, the creature's tenacity was formidable. It clamped down on the spear, preventing Zhentian from advancing further. Its massive tail then swung at him, attempting to drive him back.

Zhentian, a high-level Spirit Douluo, was not one to be easily repelled. Pulling back his spear, he slashed at the tail, producing a sharp metallic sound as he inflicted a severe cut. Then, with his spear rings flashing again, he pierced the crocodile's body, creating a deep, bleeding wound.

The Golden Crocodile King, now heavily wounded, turned and tried to escape into the stream, but Zhentian wasn't about to let it go. He activated his sixth spirit skill, his black spirit ring glowing as he struck, pinning the Golden Crocodile King to the ground and piercing it through. It thrashed helplessly, clearly dying but unwilling to accept its fate.

The Earth Demon Bear, seeing its opportunity, limped away into the forest, leaving behind its severed limb. Perhaps luck was on its side after all.

"Son, hurry and finish off the Golden Crocodile King!"

Potian quickly ran to his father's side. "Dad, with the wounds you've inflicted, are you sure it won't die too soon?"

"Not at all. The Golden Crocodile King is incredibly resilient. Quickly, deliver the final blow."

Potian raised his Breaking Soul Spear and drove it into the crocodile's eye, piercing through. The beast thrashed again, refusing to die. Potian had to strike the other eye before it finally stilled, a purple spirit ring emerging above its body.

Sitting beside the Golden Crocodile King's corpse, Potian summoned his Breaking Soul Spear and began to absorb the purple ring. As it entered his body, an overwhelming surge of power filled him. His spirit power seemed to boil, as if his entire being were submerged in flames. The pain was far beyond anything he had felt when absorbing previous rings.

Gradually, a purple spirit ring appeared around his spear, shining like a bracelet. But the pain was far from over. His entire right hand, and even his entire body, felt as if it were submerged in molten lava. Every cell, every fragment of his soul seemed to undergo purification.

In his mind's eye, he envisioned himself standing in an inferno. A towering figure wielding a spear appeared, standing defiant against the heavens.

After a grueling six hours, Potian's body finally calmed, his spirit power stabilized after an intense surge. In his mind, the vision of the giant figure took on hints of silver and gold, while his Breaking Soul Spear felt heavier and sharper, like an unparalleled divine weapon.

With that, Yang Potian successfully absorbed the 4,000-year-old Golden Crocodile King as his third spirit ring. This ring would provide not only a powerful spirit skill but also other invaluable enhancements to his abilities.
