Douluo: Soul-Breaking spear

Chapter 51: Chapter 51: What Kind of Luck Is This?

Chapter 51: What Kind of Luck Is This?

After absorbing the spirit ring, Yang Potian noticed something odd about his body—specifically, around his lower back. A strange sensation of pressure built up, and suddenly, a rigid object extended out from his backside, tearing right through his pants. The protrusion was about two meters long, swinging around like a tail and leaving deep grooves in the ground wherever it struck.

Yang Potian was completely dumbfounded. "What… is this thing? It looks terrifying… almost like the tail of that Golden Crocodile King."

Yang Zhentian, equally shocked, stared at his son, who had apparently grown a tail. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "Son, try to stay calm. Think of the tail as an arm. See if you can retract it."

Taking his father's advice, Potian calmed his mind, focusing his spirit power to control the tail. Gradually, it stopped thrashing and, to his relief, began to withdraw back into his body until it finally vanished.

Potian's face, however, showed little relief; he was mortified. Still reeling from the experience, he quickly reached for a spare pair of pants from his spatial storage and changed.

"Dad… could this be an external spirit bone?"

"Son, I think you just hit the jackpot," Zhentian replied. "This tail must be an external spirit bone from the Golden Crocodile King. External spirit bones can evolve as your spirit power increases. They're extremely rare and valuable, second only to 100,000-year spirit rings and spirit bones. For now, don't tell anyone about this—someone might try to take it from you."

Potian looked anything but pleased. "Dad, why are you calling it my tail? And how am I supposed to use this thing? Am I just supposed to rip through my pants every time I want to fight?"

Zhentian suppressed a grin. "No need to worry just yet. Let's head home, and we'll figure out the best way for you to use it. I'm sure there are ways to make good use of… your tail. I mean, your new external spirit bone."

Potian's face darkened. The idea of having a tail was humiliating. The thought of going into battle as a proud man with a tail seemed utterly absurd. While Tang San had Eight Spider Lances and Bibi Dong had her six-winged golden-purple wings, he was stuck with a tail. Just thinking about it made him feel like his dignity was slipping away.

Trying to shake off his frustration, Potian changed the topic. "Dad, that Golden Crocodile King really was something. I saw you use your ten-thousand-year spirit ability, and it still took multiple hits to bring it down."

"Potian, that Golden Crocodile King's defensive power was truly remarkable, far beyond what I expected. It's no wonder they're considered legendary spirit beasts. Its strength and defense were both extraordinary—stronger than many ten-thousand-year spirit beasts."

Potian glanced at his father, half-joking. "So, even as a Spirit Douluo using a ten-thousand-year skill, it took you that much effort to beat a four-thousand-year spirit beast? Your combat power could use some work, Dad."

Ignoring his son's jab, Zhentian asked, "How about your third spirit ability? What's it like?"

Potian's expression brightened a bit. "It's really impressive! It doubles my strength, doubles the weight of my Breaking Soul Spear, increases my attack power by 100%, and adds a 100% penetration effect. It uses up 20% of my spirit power and lasts for thirty minutes."

"A boost-type ability? Excellent! That's as powerful as some ten-thousand-year abilities. The penetration effect is especially rare at your level."

"And that's not all, Dad. My physical strength has significantly improved. The Breaking Soul Spear now weighs over 600 pounds, and I feel like its blade is sharper than ever. My spirit power even increased to level 32. The ability is called Golden Power."

After some thought, Zhentian nodded. "That makes sense. The Golden Crocodile King was a metal-attribute beast, which likely enhanced the sharpness of your spear. And its sheer strength… When I was fighting it, its bite and tail were tremendously powerful, far beyond what most ten-thousand-year beasts could muster."

"The Earth Demon Bear we saw was strong, but the Golden Crocodile King overpowered it with ease. Only creatures like the Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear or Titan Giant Ape could match that kind of strength."

"By the way, why did you take the Earth Demon Bear's arm and the Golden Crocodile King's body?"

Potian replied, "Golden Crocodile King meat and Earth Demon Bear paws make great dishes. Besides, there's always the chance of finding a spirit bone."

Zhentian chuckled, shaking his head. "Let me tell you something: a spirit beast can only produce one spirit bone at most. And since the Earth Demon Bear didn't die, there's no way its severed limb would have one. But I can't deny that bear paw will make a good meal. We'll save it for Tianyue to enjoy."

Potian grumbled a bit but took out the bear's arm and started dissecting it on the spot. To his and his father's astonishment, the dissection revealed a glimmering spirit bone—a palm bone—and an external spirit bone, no less!

Potian gasped, "Dad, what kind of day is this? Did we check the zodiac calendar before going hunting?"

Equally stunned, Zhentian muttered, "Son, I'm starting to wonder the same thing. Is today some sort of auspicious day?"

It was astounding. Only three external spirit bones appeared throughout the entire Douluo Dalu series, yet here they were, having obtained two in a single hunt. It was almost too good to be true.

Potian's eyes gleamed as he said, "Dad, I've been working on my claw techniques. Since I got the bear's arm, this Earth Demon Bear paw spirit bone would suit me perfectly. What do you say?"

Zhentian raised an eyebrow, not convinced. "Son, your focus is on the Breaking Soul Spear. Since when have you been practicing claw techniques? You already have a tail. Let's give this Earth Demon Bear paw spirit bone to your sister instead. It's important for girls to have something for self-defense."

"But Dad, this whole hunt was for my spirit ring, so it would be fitting for me to use it."

"And it was my attacks that injured the Golden Crocodile King. Logically, I should decide how we split the spoils."

"Dad, didn't you just say the Earth Demon Bear wasn't dead and that there couldn't be a spirit bone in the arm? Since I was the one who took the bear's arm, doesn't it belong to me?"

"Everyone makes mistakes now and then. Who would have expected this?"

After a brief but spirited debate, Zhentian claimed the Earth Demon Bear's paw spirit bone for Tianyue. As a consolation, Potian managed to get two rare herbs from his father's private stash.

In truth, Potian wasn't too bothered by losing the bone. The Earth Demon Bear, despite its age, hadn't stood a chance against the Golden Crocodile King, so its bone probably wasn't all that powerful. Giving it to his younger sister wasn't a bad idea. Still, he couldn't help feeling a little miffed at his father's sly tactics.
