Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Meeting of the Four Clans
Chapter 54: The Meeting of the Four Clans
Since his sparring sessions with his father, Yang Zhentian, Yang Potian began seeking out more opportunities to practice with him, enhancing both his skills and combat experience.
In what seemed like a blink of an eye, another six months passed, and Potian officially turned twelve years old.
By now, Potian's spirit power had reached level 34. This two-level increase in half a year was partly due to the boost from the Golden Crocodile King's spirit ring, which had initially elevated him to level 32 with some excess spirit power. Additionally, his frequent sparring sessions with his father provided him ample real-world combat practice, accelerating his progress.
Physically, Potian now stood at 1.7 meters, towering over most kids his age, with broad shoulders and a stocky frame that gave him an imposing presence. If it weren't for his youthful face, anyone would mistake him for a young adult—especially if he donned a mask.
The third spirit ring had brought about a significant surge in Potian's strength, which prompted him to switch to heavier, high-quality metals for his training weights. Each wrist was now fitted with 20 kilograms of weight, while his chestplate alone weighed 50 kilograms, totaling a 130-kilogram load across his entire body. This regimen had amplified his strength to a terrifying degree.
Despite his power, Potian noticed his agility hadn't kept pace. Determined to address this imbalance, he began to devise a training plan to enhance his agility and balance—an idea he planned to act on during an upcoming trip to Heaven Dou City, where he could acquire the right equipment.
His younger brother, Yang Ping'an, had advanced to level 26 and seemed on the verge of reaching 27.
Meanwhile, his mother had recently achieved a major breakthrough, reaching level 80 and becoming a Spirit Douluo after obtaining her eighth spirit ring, while his father and grandfathers maintained their spirit power levels for the time being.
Potian also recognized that his own battle experience was lacking. He had already made plans to train at the Great Spirit Arena to gain more practical combat experience, but it would have to wait for now.
Ever since the Four Single Attribute Clans moved to Heaven Dou City, the clan leaders had agreed to meet annually, a much higher frequency than described in the Douluo Dalu original storyline. In the novel, the clans only met once every four years, primarily because the long distances between them made frequent gatherings difficult. Even within the Star Luo Empire, the three clans were separated by great distances. With the Strength Clan based in Heaven Dou City, it would take a full month by carriage just to meet with the others, which was hardly practical.
Now, however, the four clans resided close to each other. The furthest was the Breaking Clan, located 40 kilometers outside Heaven Dou City, while the other three clans were all within 10 kilometers of each other.
This year, the gathering was to be hosted by the Defense Clan, and Potian's grandfathers had long made it clear that the entire family would attend, giving them a chance to socialize and learn from one another.
Initially, Potian wasn't too enthusiastic. The few interactions he'd had with the younger members of the other clans had been dull. But now, with everyone reaching the age of twelve, he felt there might be more common ground. Besides, with the gathering hosted at his grandfather's place, it would be rude not to attend.
And so, the whole family—Potian's parents, both grandfathers, and his younger siblings—prepared for the journey, along with a few direct disciples. The family elders, six of whom were staying behind, would ensure the clan's security. With two Spirit Douluos and four high-level Spirit Saints equipped with Breaking Soul Spears, the Breaking Clan could hold its own even against a Titled Douluo-level attacker.
Furthermore, the Spirit Douluos' true strength was kept secret; to the outside world, they appeared to be Spirit Saints. Any Titled Douluo who attempted an attack on the Breaking Clan would find themselves in an unexpected trap.
With all the arrangements made, the family boarded the carriages and set out in grand procession from the Breaking Clan's territory. The journey took barely one or two hours by carriage, and they soon arrived at the Defense Clan's domain.
In contrast to the Breaking Clan, which backed onto Mount Qingyuan, the Defense Clan's territory was a more open area resembling a small town. True to the original novel, it had even been named "Dragon Rise City," perhaps as a reflection of Potian's grandfather's unique sense of pride.
As they entered Dragon Rise City, Potian couldn't help but admire the impressive architecture. Though not particularly large, the layout and design were imposing. The exterior structures were bold, reflecting Potian's grandfather's powerful personality, and the streets were wide, flanked by a training ground and even a small lake.
The high buildings stood neatly spaced, giving the city a balanced look. Despite the grandeur, the decorations inside the residences were modest, with tasteful rather than luxurious furnishings. In sum, the place exuded a sense of pride and strength, wholly fitting for the Defense Clan, which was renowned across the continent for its building skills.
As they entered the grand hall, a booming voice greeted them from afar: "Old Goat! What took you so long? We've already started drinking!"
Seated at a large round table were three men, each with a massive mug in hand: Niu Gao, the Defense Clan patriarch; Titan, the Strength Clan patriarch; and Bai He, the Speed Clan patriarch.
Niu Gao was a giant of a man with a golden bull horn on his head. He wore Defense Clan attire, exposing much of his chest, which was covered by a tuft of black hair, adding to his rugged look. His burly frame resembled a sturdy fortress.
Titan, an elderly man with gray hair and a beard, had short hair that stood up like steel spikes. His muscular frame exceeded two meters, reminiscent of an immovable mountain, radiating a natural aura of authority.
Lastly, Bai He had a tall and slender figure with a graceful build. His hair, as white as snow, cascaded down his back, while his complexion was as fair as a child's.
The booming voice was, of course, Potian's grandfather, Niu Gao.
Spotting Potian and his siblings, Niu Gao's eyes lit up. "Ah! My little grandson and granddaughter are here! Look how much they've grown. This boy takes after me—haha!"
Yang Wudi scoffed and replied, "Old Ox, what do you mean he takes after you? He's my grandson, so obviously he takes after me!"
Before the two could get into a quarrel, Potian quickly bowed with his younger siblings, Yang Ping'an and Yang Tianyue. "Greetings, Grandfather, Patriarch Bai He, and Patriarch Titan."
Niu Gao laughed heartily. "No need for all the formalities, grandson! Consider this your own home." He clearly took note of Potian's spirit power level.
Bai He nodded approvingly, evidently pleased with the younger generation's respectfulness.
Titan, too, spoke up. "I've heard from your grandfather that you're dedicated to mastering the path of strength. You're welcome to visit the Strength Clan anytime for some sparring."
Potian smiled. "Thank you, Grandfather Titan. I'll definitely visit often."
Even little Tianyue imitated her brother and sister's bow, which made everyone laugh warmly.
