Douluo: Soul-Breaking spear

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Spear Techniques

Chapter 53: Spear Techniques

In the following days, Yang Potian spent his afternoons not studying alchemy as usual, but practicing with his new "Crocodile King Spear."

His mother, Jinfeng, thoughtfully prepared custom pants for him. They had a small, layered opening at the back that allowed his Crocodile King Spear to extend and retract without risking embarrassment.

As Potian continued practicing, he grew increasingly comfortable with his new tail-spear. It was almost like having an extra arm. His two grandfathers even developed a basic version of the split-mind control technique, which they had simplified to suit his needs. Though straightforward in theory, the practice was quite challenging.

Potian couldn't help but remember Guo Jing's training in the Legend of the Condor Heroes, where he learned Zhou Botong's "Left-Right Mutual Combat Technique." Inspired, Potian tried to coordinate both his hands with different movements. He took a pen in each hand, attempting to draw circles with one and squares with the other. At first, his efforts were a mess: the circles were ovals, and the squares looked crooked.

However, whether due to the unique nature of this world or his innate focus, when Potian fully concentrated, his mind reached a state of extraordinary clarity. Within a few days, he was able to draw circles with his left hand and squares with his right with relative ease. He progressed rapidly, advancing to more complex dual motions in less than a month.

After a month of this rigorous training, Potian had achieved basic split-mind control. While he hadn't reached the higher levels of mastery seen in the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, this was more than enough for a power-based Spirit Master like him. This practice also helped him become proficient with his Crocodile King Spear, which now responded to his commands, though a complete integration would require more time and pressure to fuse entirely with his body.

Reflecting on this progress, Potian was genuinely grateful for the depth and breadth of ancient Chinese knowledge. The ingenuity in spear techniques and the concept of split-mind control demonstrated a remarkable understanding of both martial arts and mental training. Although Douluo Dalu was a world of fantasy, in many ways, his past world's insights were equally profound, sometimes even surpassing those of this fantastical realm.

After three years of dedicated practice, Potian had essentially developed his own spear style, though it was inspired by renowned techniques from his previous life. Even without using spirit abilities, his spear skills alone could hold their own in battle.

Now, his Breaking Soul Spear weighed over 600 pounds—heavier than Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer during the Soul Master Tournament. The spear's edge had also sharpened significantly, likely due to the effects of the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass and the Golden Crocodile King's spirit ring.

Potian's progress was evident in his sparring sessions with Yang Ping'an, where he could secure victory quickly. With his confidence bolstered, he even considered challenging his father to spar and further refine his technique.

When Potian shared this idea, his father, Zhentian, eagerly accepted. Almost instantly, Zhentian pulled him to the training ground as if afraid he might change his mind.

Word of their sparring match spread quickly, drawing the entire family to the training grounds. Both grandfathers arrived, and Potian's little sister, Yang Tianyue, was particularly excited, setting up a small stool to watch.

Potian chose a 600-pound Breaking Soul Spear for the match. The spear measured about three meters in length, with an 80-centimeter blade, though the blade was unsharpened for safety. Zhentian wielded a regular 200-pound Breaking Soul Spear, much lighter than his spirit weapon.

When the match began, Potian struck first, gripping his Breaking Soul Spear with both hands as he thrust forward. Zhentian's eyes narrowed as he deflected the attack with his spear. Even so, Potian's spear forced his father's weapon to tremble slightly.

Seeing an opening, Potian shifted his spear in a subtle flick to break Zhentian's guard. Pivoting on his heels, he swung his body into a right-facing lunge, positioning his feet in an arched stance as he thrust his spear forward in a technique called Centered Heart Thrust.

Zhentian swiftly blocked with his spear, though he retreated half a step under the force of the strike.

With Potian seizing the advantage, he stepped forward in a continuous motion, rotated to his left, and unleashed another technique, White Crane Spreads Wings. Zhentian responded by countering with the Breaking Soul Spear's signature "break" technique, creating a fierce impact between their weapons.

Both were forced back half a step, with Zhentian surprised by his son's strength.

Potian quickly adjusted his stance, taking a half-step back with his left foot, then crouched slightly into a False Step Twist maneuver. As his spear spiraled forward, sparks flew when the two spears clashed again.

Having been on the defensive for three moves, Zhentian could no longer hold back. With a look of determination, he executed the "smash" technique, a powerful strike filled with destructive intent that even made Potian's spear tremble on impact.

Seizing the force of this blow, Potian leaped back, planted his right foot forward, rotated ninety degrees left, and performed Glance Back at the Moon. Caught off-guard, Zhentian stumbled back a few steps.

Potian followed up with a series of moves, including Sweeping the Army, Overlord Lifts the Cauldron, Strike the Yellow Dragon, The Immortal Points the Way, and Lifting the Mountain. Altogether, he employed nine moves, skillfully blending the weight and sharpness of his Breaking Soul Spear.

Their sparring session lasted a full hour, with Zhentian mostly probing and analyzing his son's technique. By the end, Potian was drenched in sweat, the match clearly having pushed his limits.

Yang Wudi spoke up, "Potian, did you develop this spear technique on your own?"

"Yes, Grandfather. I based it on some readings and tailored it to align with my training plans. Sparring with Father helped me refine the techniques even further."

"You've created an impressive style, Potian. It complements the Breaking Soul Spear's strengths perfectly. Keep honing it, and it'll become a force to be reckoned with."

Everyone present was left in awe. For a child not yet twelve to possess such skill was astonishing.

Potian himself was satisfied; the sparring match revealed areas of his technique that could be improved. This bout had been purely about spear skills, with no use of spirit rings or energy. If he incorporated those elements, his combat strength would soar even higher.
