Douluo Starting with the Chaos Divine Examination

Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Setting Out for Sea God Island

Hanhai City, one of Douluo Continent's coastal cities, stretched along the endless blue expanse of the ocean.

This city lived by the sea—its salty air, its fishing trade, and its dependence on the unpredictable tides. The soil here, laden with salt, was too poor for most crops to grow. Only a handful of hardy tropical plants managed to cling to life. Most of the city's residents earned their living as fishermen or traders, navigating the vast and bountiful waters.

"Master, are you certain about going to Sea God Island?" the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon asked, its deep voice filled with unease.

"Yes," Mu Chen replied firmly, his gaze steady.

"Master, you know what that place represents, don't you?" the dragon pressed, its tone cautious.

"I know," Mu Chen said evenly. "Sea God Island is the remnant sanctuary of the Sea God's Divine Will. Its guardian, the High Priest, wields power that rivals the divine itself."

"If you understand that, why would you risk going there?" the dragon asked, perplexed.

"I have no choice," Mu Chen sighed. "The eighth trial of the Chaos Divine Assessment demands that I subjugate the soul masters of Sea God Island—and kill the Deep Sea Demon Whale King."

---

The dragon's massive head lowered slightly, its expression grim.

"Master, this trial is almost impossible," it admitted. "In the sea, I am powerless against the Deep Sea Demon Whale King. And as for the High Priest… she is called the 'Unrivaled of the Ocean' for a reason."

Mu Chen nodded, his expression contemplative. He turned toward Xiao Wu and asked, "Where's Nana?"

"She went to… relieve herself. Again," Xiao Wu replied, her tone tinged with suspicion.

"Again?" Mu Chen's brows furrowed.

"Yes, Brother. She's been acting strange lately. I think you should keep an eye on her," Xiao Wu said.

---

After securing the loyalty of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Mu Chen had instructed Liu Erlong to oversee its integration into the Tang Sect as the Thunder Dragon Hall. Yu Yuanzhen was appointed as a senior elder, while Yu Luomian took the position of hall master.

Leaving the clan's matters in capable hands, Mu Chen, Xiao Wu, Hu Liena, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon traveled eastward, finally arriving in Hanhai City. However, Hu Liena's frequent and suspicious departures under the guise of "needing a break" had not escaped their notice.

"Let's go," Mu Chen said, his voice calm but firm. "We'll see what she's up to."

---

Following Hu Liena's trail, Mu Chen and Xiao Wu entered a small grove. There, in a clearing, they found her pacing nervously. In her hands, she held a pigeon—a carrier bird used to send messages.

"Should I… or shouldn't I?" Hu Liena muttered to herself. "If I do this, am I betraying him? But if I don't, how can I face my teacher when I return to the Spirit Hall?"

Lost in her internal struggle, she failed to notice Mu Chen and Xiao Wu approaching.

"If you're torn, then just do it," Mu Chen's voice cut through the silence, startling her.

---

Hu Liena froze, clutching the bird tightly as she turned to face him. "Mu… Mu Chen? What are you doing here?" she stammered, her eyes wide with panic.

"Are you trying to report my movements to your teacher?" Mu Chen asked, his tone calm yet piercing.

"I… I don't know what you're talking about!" Hu Liena protested weakly, her hands trembling.

"Nana, let's not play games," Mu Chen said, his gaze sharp. "The only reason you agreed to accompany me was to gain my trust, collect information, and report back to your teacher, Bibi Dong. Isn't that right?"

Hu Liena's lips quivered, and after a long pause, she nodded reluctantly.

---

"Looks like she's starting to worry about losing," Mu Chen said with a wry smile.

"Teacher isn't worried," Hu Liena shot back. "The Spirit Hall controls more than half of the soul masters in the continent. Even if you succeed in subjugating Sea God Island, you'll never surpass us."

Mu Chen laughed softly, his confidence unwavering. "Two years remain. That's plenty of time."

"Where does your confidence come from?" Hu Liena asked, her curiosity piqued despite herself.

"Because I'm handsome," Mu Chen said, smirking.

"What?" Hu Liena blinked, baffled.

"Confident men are handsome, aren't they?" he quipped, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"You're insufferable," Hu Liena said, rolling her eyes, though she couldn't help but smile.

---

"Go ahead," Mu Chen said, gesturing toward the pigeon. "Send your report to Bibi Dong. I won't stop you."

Hu Liena hesitated, her heart conflicted.

"Do it," Mu Chen pressed. "If you're so worried about what your teacher will think, then send it. I don't care."

Hu Liena bit her lip, then slowly tied the message to the pigeon's leg. She released it into the air, watching it disappear into the sky.

Spirit Hall, Pope's Palace

"Your Holiness, the operation failed," reported Platinum Bishop Salas, his head bowed respectfully before Bibi Dong.

"Failed?" Bibi Dong's brows knitted together. "How is that possible? We sent thousands of soul masters, including several titled elders. How could we fail?"

"By the time we reached the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, the sect had already evacuated. The same happened with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Both sects were… empty."

Bibi Dong's expression darkened. "Evacuated? How did they know of our plans?"

"We cannot say," Salas admitted. "It's as if they anticipated our every move. But if they knew, why not set a trap for us instead?"

---

At that moment, a messenger entered, bowing deeply. "Your Holiness, the Saint has sent word."

As Bibi Dong read the letter, her expression shifted from surprise to incredulity.

"So… Mu Chen plans to challenge Sea God Island?" she mused aloud.

Her lips curled into a mocking smile. "That fool. Does he truly believe he can subjugate the Unrivaled of the Ocean? Even the Spirit Hall paid dearly for our incursions into those waters. What makes him think he stands a chance w

ith just a rabbit and a dragon?"

Her laughter echoed through the grand hall, tinged with equal parts amusement and disdain.
