Commentary on Chapter 14. Strange Girl.

 Enjoy your reading!

A month went by without notice, it wasn't until a week later that Eros was able to get used to Gildarts training and no longer fainted by the end of the day. But after another week, the workload increased and again it took him a week to get used to it.

In addition to his regular training, which was supposed to improve his fitness, he also sparred with Gildarts, but each time he lost, but even so Eros did not give up and after each loss he got up and attacked the man again. Gildarts himself was amazed by the boy's persistence, so he did not spare him and for this the titan was very grateful to him.

During that month, he had made no progress in magic, but had only improved his physical form. Gildarts refused to teach him spells until he improved his form to an optimal level. And when Eros was done with that, the next stage would be to increase his stock of Magic Power, and when that stage was passed, he would already start learning spells.

Eros didn't really like this, but he had no choice, so for the whole month he mostly trained with Gildarts and only a couple of times a week he could do runes. He had progressed in them as well, now he could draw runes that could be found on equipment, third-rate of course, but that was progress too.

Evening. Gildarts' house.

- Hey, teacher, - Eros looked at the sheet given by the senior mage with a sour face, - Are you sure you don't want to kill me?

- What makes you think that?

- Looking at your training schedule, I think you're either a complete sadist or you want to kill me.

The next moment, Eros received a backhand that made him fly off and slam his face against the door.

- HEY!

- You don't talk bad about your teacher! - Gildarts said threateningly, but seeing the battered look on the boy's face, he couldn't stand it and laughed.

- But it's true! With this plan, I won't get a minute's rest!

- You wanted to become a strong mage in one year, and the Master told me to make you a mage of at least A-rang, so there's no need to get upset, - and threw him a fried leg, - Better eat, from tomorrow as well as the next month, you'll have to get your own food.

- Understood," Eros replied glumly, "Master, maybe you should think about an S-rank mission....

- I'm telling you for the thirteenth time, S-rank missions are not a child's play," Eros looked at him and said that he was not going to give up, but he had to accept it, "Okay," the boy's eyes lit up, "But as soon as you pass all three stages of my training," he said, his gaze fading.

- I agree," the titan sighed and shook his outstretched hand.

The next day, Eros stood at the Magnolia gate and waved to the departing Gildarts.

- A month, huh? - Eros said thoughtfully, looking at the back of Gildarts, who was already a kilometre away from him. "Okay, I'll do some training and then runes in the evening." As he was about to leave, he noticed a girl of seven, with shoulder-length brown hair, wearing a red T-shirt, a pink skirt and red shoes. Her gaze was very sad and directed towards the guild gate, ''Who is she? I've started to see her too often..."

While the girl was immersed in herself, someone placed a hand on her shoulder, she flinched and turned around slowly with fear.

- Hello," Eros said with a soft smile.

She nodded uncertainly in response and lowered her eyes.

- You don't have to be afraid of me, I'm Eros, and you are?

- Kana...

- Nice to meet you.

- Mm-hmm...

At this moment, Kana was very nervous because she had heard a lot of things in the guild this month and it was possible that the boy in front of her could be her older brother, just this one thought made her afraid to look him in the eyes.

- Hey, what's up? I'm sorry if I offended you somehow...

Kana very frantically started shaking her head and blushing.

- If that's the case, then fine," he held out his hand, "Then let's go to the guild, there's no reason for the kids to go out alone in the city... Hey, what's wrong? - Eros exclaimed anxiously, seeing how tears began to flow from the girl's eyes, -I won't hurt you, really! I'm a good person... - but the next moment, Kana took his hand, - "How hard it is to understand you girls, even so young..."- the titan thought with a sigh, taking out a handkerchief and wiping away his tears.

All the way back, Eros asked her all sorts of questions, but mostly Kana kept silent and walked quietly beside her.

- Here we are," Eros said, smiling softly, "Go run to the guild, I have some things to do," but when he saw that the girl's eyes started crying again, he panicked a little, "Why are you crying, I'm not leaving forever, if you want to talk, come to the library in the evening, I'll always be there.

- Mm-hmm..." she sniffled and nodded, lowering her hand, Cana headed towards the guild halfway she turned around and looked at Eros, but he responded with a smile and waved her off.

"Strange girl, I remember my master telling me that all the children in the guild are orphans" Eros thought sadly, "Yeah and her reactions, I probably look like someone close to her... Okay, now I have to get to my training, so what's on the list... Hmm... Ten laps around Magnolia, 1000 push-ups, squats... Battle with Forest Volcano, without using magic... Gildarts really wants to kill me"

By late afternoon, Eros had finished his training and caught a rabbit, having a quick snack, he headed to the guild...

As soon as he stepped through the doors, Eros headed towards the library. No one noticed the boy's slightly wrinkled state and the black eye that Forest Vulcan had given him. They had grown accustomed to this condition over the month, there were days when the titan looked a dozen times worse.

The first time he was able to return to the guild, after training with Gildarts, everyone immediately rushed to help him and even Makarov then very much scolded Gildarts, but then Eros interceded for him and the conflict was resolved, but the master was still very angry at the senior mage.

When he entered the library, he was very surprised to see two new faces in it talking about something, but when he saw Eros, they immediately stopped talking and looked at him.

- You never stopped it," Lily said with a sigh as she walked over to Eros and put her hand to his eye, "White Glow," the girl whispered and a bright golden magic circle lit up in her palm.

Eros felt a pleasant warmth near his eye. It went on like that for another five minutes and Lily removed her hand, the bruise also disappeared.

- Thank you," he said with a smile as he sat down at the table, "And hello to you, Kana," she nodded embarrassedly, "So, what brings you to me, Lily?

- I'm looking for some books on medicine.

- Oooh, that's good, my guild will need a good healer in the future," Eros said with a smile, "But if you want to become a better healer, you'll need to know a lot more.

- А?- Sure, - nodded the titan confidently, and quickly went through the whole library, and picked up two stacks of books, - Here, here is not only medicine, but also books on biology, where you can study the structure of the body and how it functions, books on poisons....

- What are poisons for? - the girl asked in surprise.

- What if someone in our guild is poisoned and your skills are not enough to heal them? - Eros said more seriously, "Maybe you can cure ordinary poisons, but what if it's some kind of magic poison?

- I didn't think of that," Lily said with a frown.

- Sit down next to me, start studying, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

- Okay, thank you.

Eros began to write runes on the wooden board again. He made one rune at a time dozens of times, until it was perfect. And one of the runes he really liked, it is a rune that increases the strength of things and it was already on a different level, compared to the past, because such runes even on medium-priced items were put. There is of course a more advanced rune of the same type, but for her Eros still lacks the skill, as well as materials, such as magic ink and pen.

The rune of strength, he got it only on his fortieth attempt, and he was very pleased with the result. Breaking the regular board and the one with the rune, he noticed that the board with the rune was twice as strong as the regular one.

While Eros was doing the runes, he noticed Kana's gaze directed at him, she was scrutinising his face as if trying to find something in it.

- Um... Kana, if you're bored, why don't you go and play with the kids?

- No, I'm not bored.

Eros only sighed heavily and stood up from his seat, quickly looking for something on the shelves.

- Here it is," he pulled out a rather thick book, the cover of which was blank, "Kana, don't you want to learn magic?

- Would I be able to? - The girl asked uncertainly, walking up to him.

- Of course, it's card magic," he rummaged in his pocket and pulled out a pack of cards, "You can use it to create various things and even living creatures, to imitate other forms of magic, such as water magic or soporific magic.

Taking the deck in her hands, she looked at the pictures on each of them with a twinkle in her eyes.

- Um... Do you know how to read? - Kana shook her head, lowering her gaze to the floor, "If so, let's learn.

He sat with Kana until twelve o'clock and after walking both of them to the women's dormitory of the Fairy Tail, he returned to the guild, where he continued to study the runes, but after half an hour he fell asleep from the fatigue he had accumulated during the day.

Waking up the next day, Eros went to train again, and only in the evening, having finished, returned to the library. Where both girls were already there. The older one was helping the younger one by teaching her how to read. Without disturbing them both, he sat down at the table and began to study the runes again.
