CHAPTER 69: IS THIS IT?
It took Joe all his might to approach the city.
However, Arlo’s well-being gave him the courage to pull through.
What made Joe sigh in relief is that after entering the city, he didn’t face any hardship.
Following the sound of an explosion, he approached the battlefield.
When Joe got to the source of the explosion, he saw Arlo and a three-meter-tall monster overwhelm a three-headed beast.
‘This aura…it’s Arianne.’
‘I knew she was a monster all along.’
His body trembled in fear as he watched Arianne’s terrifying appearance.
Seeing how Arlo protected her whenever she faced danger, Joe’s expression became complicated.
‘He really cares about her…huh!’
Upon seeing Arianne suddenly face danger, his body subconsciously moved.
He didn’t want his only friend to feel sad.
“Size manipulation.”
His body transformed into a massive serpent. He gritted his teeth in pain during the transformation.
After transforming, he launched a meter-thick beam of poison toward the snake-like tail.
The tail evaporated in the pillar of poison.
The bloodhound let out a painful snarl that sounded more like a cry.
Arlo turned back only to see several lesser demons turn to face Joe.
The corner of his mouth twitched when he saw Joe turn around and scurry away in fear in his serpent form.
However, he had done enough as no matter how the three-headed beast struggled, they already sealed its fate
Arianne released gulping sounds, following which the hound's struggle lessened until it eventually stopped.
All its blood was sucked out of its body.
After thirty seconds, the beast finally succumbed.
Arianne raised her head as the hound’s corpse fell and released a mighty…
“ROOOOAAAR!”
Gasping for breath, Arlo used his arm to wipe off the sweat on his forehead.
Suddenly, Arianne trembled heavily as her body reduced in size.
She turned into a snow-white-haired little beauty that was over a meter tall, following which her body fell downward.
“Arianne!” Arlo quickly moved and caught her in his embrace.
Arianne had now grown taller, and Arlo attributed it to her earlier transformation.
However, he couldn’t dwell on this change, as when she fell into his embrace, she twisted in pain while painful groans leaked from her lips.
“Arianne….” Arlo felt his heart clench. He didn’t know what to do.
Thankfully, Old bro voice came at this moment, << Her bloodline is fighting against the evil energy she just ingested. She will be fine. >>
Sure enough, after a minute, strands of evil energy were released from her body.
But Arlo noticed the process was slow, and the pain she felt when it started seemed to increase.
“Isn't there any way I can help?”
After ten minutes.
The sound of battle had already died down.
Anita could single-handedly kill almost three hundred lesser demons. She owes it to the power she just gained.
With the water domain, as long as she had enough energy, she could continuously face hordes of enemies on her own. And universal devouring just fulfills that condition.
With thousands of corpses in the battleground, she had an endless supply of energy.
After killing all the enemies in sight, Anita didn’t stop but even seemed more zeal as she bobbed around the battleground.
“Universal devouring…”
“Universal devouring…”
While she couldn’t grow stronger as she was being limited by Arlo, devouring the corpses still gave her several perks.
Endless energy, new laws, and techniques. She could feel that the more she devoured, the more Arlo would benefit when using her powers.
She suddenly noticed Joe approaching the battlefield again.
With a whoosh, she rushed at him.
Joe was moving toward Arlo when he felt a shadow rush at him with a speed he couldn’t follow.
“AAAH!” he subconsciously raised his hands to protect his face.
But after feeling something soft snuggling against his chest, his hands quickly move to protect it from falling.
Looking down, he saw a little slime rubbing on his chest affectionately.
“Thank you for protecting Arlo!”
‘This is Arlo’s pet?’
His mouth opened to say, “I did little’, but what came out was…
“It is what a big brother should do.”
“Hehe!”
Anita sneered, but to Joe, it sounded like cute giggles.
Rubbing her gently, he moved toward Arlo.
“Is she alright?” He looked at the unconscious Arianne.
She seemed in pain, and her body kept trembling.
Seeing the evil energy released in waves, Joe shifted backward.
His bloodline trembled in fear whenever he came too close to this energy. So he didn’t dare to come in contact with it.
“She should be fine.”
Looking at Arlo, all the pride and content Joe felt disappeared like a wisp of smoke.
Arlo was giving out a feeling.
It was a feeling of tiredness. While he embraced Arianne, Joe could see his shoulders slumped as if he were carrying a mountain.
“Arlo, are you okay?”
Arlo raised his head and looked at Joe.
He smiled lightly, “Thank you.”
Joe knew he was thanking him for earlier but he didn’t respond.
The trio simultaneously turned back as the sounds of footsteps drifted over.
The demons' leader together with two greater demons came from the alley the bloodhound had also come from.
Looking at the ground, they were stunned.
It was almost as if it was not a solid ground, but a sea of blood.
What was a big surprise was that only a few corpses littered the ground.
Looking at the trio, it surprised them to see that they weren’t the least affected by the surrounding evil energy.
One of the greater demons shouted before even the leader could talk, “Little brats, what the hell happened here?”
He wanted to ask if they saw the middle-aged man and the greater demons that had followed him but after seeing the massive hound corpse that was lying in front of the brats; he opted to ask what happened.
Joe trembled in fear.
The people in front of him were so strong that he found it difficult to breathe. He subconsciously tightened his grip on Anita, causing her to struggle away from his embrace.
Sigh!
He looked at his side only to see Arlo gently place Arianne on the ground.
He stood up and walked towards the newcomers. Anita quickly followed behind him.
Joe noticed his steps were unsteady and occasionally it would seem as if his body would fall.
While Arlo had endless energy coming from Anita, his physical body as strong as it was, was wearing out.
Not to say, he was more tired mentally.
With more enemies appearing after subduing one, Arlo’s will was starting to waver.
‘Is this it?’
The greater demon who had asked the previous question frowned slightly. He had asked a question, but instead of answering, this little brat was approaching them and he seemed intent on fighting.
He raised his hand about to teach this foolish brat a lesson when the voice of their leader entered his ears.
“Why bother? We are already dead.”
He was confused at first but after following his leader's line of sight, he also looked up.
With a flash of crimson lightning, a three-meter-tall snow-white-haired woman appeared high above the cloud.
