CHAPTER 71: CITY IN RUINS
[PAST]
A city lay in ruins.
Corpses littered the ground while the iron smell of blood permeated the whole city.
The majority of the buildings were destroyed; a testament to the chaos that had taken place in the city.
At the center of the city.
Sitting atop a massive block from a destroyed building was Dean.
His wavy black hair moved with the wind.
His eyes were cold and indifferent while the atmosphere around was eerie.
These qualities didn’t match a twelve-year-old kid.
It seemed as if he was gazing far into the distance however, his entire attention was on the blue panel in front of him.
<< You have three rewards. >>
<< You have two new rewards. >>
He acquired the first set of rewards when the system awoke.
The second he received after killing a great majority of the civilians of this city. Except for a few hundred thousand who escaped when the chaos ensued, all the others were killed, whether it was a child, an adult man and woman, or even the old.
Hell! Even a few pregnant women didn’t escape his grasp.
Whenever he saw a living human, the system would slowly cloud his mind, causing him to kill without any thought or emotion.
He focused on the message, << You have three rewards. >> for about five seconds before a new set of messages appeared in his sight.
<< Reward 1: You have acquired the unique ability ‘Evil Energy Creation’.
Evil energy Creation (Passive): Automatically converts your mana into energy that corrodes the very core essence of your enemies. Core essence comprises the life essence and soul essence.
Reward 2: You have unlocked ‘Death space’.
Death space: A pocket space where you can keep your armies of death and your belongings.
…..
Immediately after reading the second reward, Dean winced in pain as he felt a scorching pain in his right palm.
Looking down he saw, he saw a small dark sphere forming at the center of his palm.
After a minute, the pain disappeared. He focused his attention back on the panel.
…..
<< Reward 3: Your innate trait ‘Summon Undead’ has evolved to the unique trait ‘Evil Summoning’.
Evil Summoning (Two skills attached): You are an embodiment of evil. Spread fear and death to all that stand on your path.
Skill 1: Summon undead: Evil energy corrodes the life essence remaining in the corpses of your enemies turning them into undead that fight for you. All undead will have access to their previous skills, however, they have no mind and will of their own and must be actively controlled.
Numbers of undead that can be permanently kept: 30
Skill 2: Summon Specters: Evil energy corrodes the souls that are yet to pass into the underworld, forcing them to do your bidding. Specters can only use soul attacks.
Number of specters that can be permanently kept: 1 >>
Shifting his gaze to the top right corner of the panel, he focused on a line of words…

…..
Dean was still contemplating his status page when he heard the sounds of heavy footsteps.
Shifting his attention from the panel, he saw a march of about three hundred people approaching him.
While the majority of them were walking, a few were riding on horses, while a man adorned in golden armor led the march.
Dean squinted when he saw this armor. As a previous prince of a kingdom, he has seen his share of luxurious items among which were treasure weapons and armor.
He could discern that this armor was a treasure.
“Heavens!” One of the soldiers riding on the horses exclaimed.
Looking at the city in ruin, the corpses that littered the ground, and the blood that still continued to flow; the entire situation looked like a scene pulled out from an apocalypse.
The man in golden armor gazed calmly at the scene before his eyes fell on the little boy sitting atop a massive block.
“Did you really cause all these?”
According to the reports he received from the survivors who fled the city in time, a small boy killed the city guards stationed at the gate and on the wall, before commencing a massacre after entering the city.
No matter how many came to resist him, they all fell.
No matter the number of magical spells rained on him, he always survived.
As a war general stationed in a neighboring city, even though he didn’t believe the reports, he still decided to bring the full army under him to check the situation.
After entering the city, he realized the reports weren’t overestimated but rather understated, as the city was in a more wretched situation than reported.
“Are you deaf? Can’t you hear General Rock talking to you?” Another person riding a horse stated, annoyed.
General Rock frowned before looking at the person who just spoke, his gaze a bit rebuking.
He knew that person was trying to curry favor with him, however, such persons were the first to fall in battle.
The man lowered his head from embarrassment.
Still not receiving a reply from Dean, General Rock made his decision.
He won’t take Dean lightly and crush him with his entire force. However, he himself won't take any action.
There was simply no need.
“Kill him!”
His army was stunned.
Even after seeing the entire city in ruin, the army of mages still felt it was overkill for all of them to gang up on one person, not to say that person was still a child.
General Rock frowned slightly before ordering once more, but this time with a deep voice…
“Kill him!”
The mages didn’t dare tarry any longer and marched toward Dean.
Dean didn’t say a thing from the beginning and just watched them coldly.
This will be his first real battle after merging with whatever was behind the wall of calamity.
When they were less than ten meters from him, Dean opened his mouth and spoke his first word since he was teleported to this side of the universe.
“Come!”
The approaching mages were perplexed when they heard the small boy they were about to kill fearlessly tell them to come when their eyes widened like saucers.
A wave of evil energy burst out from Dean as the center before spreading far beyond their vision.
The mana in their bodies started churning after coming in contact with the evil energy.
They all simultaneously came to a stop when they saw the still corpses that had been lying on the ground rise up one by one.
After rising, the flesh on the corpses peeled before falling, leaving behind skeletons that were covered in blood.
They were small skeletons and large skeletons, obviously belonging to children and adults alike.
Seeing such skeletons covered in blood and still wearing clothes sent a chill down the spines of the mages including General Rock.
They were surrounded by all sides by countless unmoving skeletons.
However, that wasn’t the end.
With a wailing sound, countless specters appeared above the city, blotting out the sky.
The faces of the specters were distorted and their bodies were yellowish see-through.
*Tap*
It wasn’t clear who took the first step backward, but like a chain reaction, all the mages started slowing moving backward, their faces pale.
General Rock didn’t seem to mind.
Hell! He didn’t even pay any attention to them.
Looking at the surrounding skeletons, and the countless specters above their heads, only one sentence kept ringing in his mind.
‘What the f*ck!’
