Chapter 7

I look at the numbers for a couple minutes, thinking about what I’m going to do once the quest is complete and my babies don’t need to be protected anymore. Will they want to stay with me as I go places? Will I have to keep feeding them or will they be able to feed themselves? Too bad they can’t be more like me. Oh well.

Should I even keep walking new places? Ok that’s a stupid question, of course I have to keep walking places. How else am I going to keep finding stuff to fight, it’s too much fun to give up. I hold up my white hand in front of my face, looking at 3 fingers with two missing on this hand alone. Even if it hurts sometimes it’s worth it. I make an awkward fist. Definitely.

I saw that I got some new Titles as well so I should check those before I check my stats so I know where the bonuses are coming from. Titles

Ding!

Passive:

(A Mother)Vit/End +5

You have experienced the miracle of birth just like Mother. You are tougher for it.

(Broodmother)Vit +10, Boost to number of children from each pregnancy

You have given birth to more than ten children from a single pregnancy. You are more vital.

(New)(Giant Slayer)Str/Dex +5

You have slain a monster 2 Tiers above your highest Class. You are spry for it.

Equip-able:

(New)(Guardian)End +10 Equip Bonus:Receive better rewards for Defense Quests

You have spent more than 5 days on a Defense quest. You are more enduring.

Equipped:

Giant Slayer must be talking about that giant snake. Rude noodle. Guardian says it’s equip-able and its equip bonus couldn’t have come at a better time since it will boost my rewards from the quest when I finish it in a few hours. I focus on it, and see-

Equipped:(Guardian)

Fancy, and now that that’s done I’ll check the new Status.

Ding!

Status

Name: Opal

Age: 20

Class: (2)Bloody Mother Level 1

Health:37/250 Mana:51/70 Stamina:21/250

Strength:14 Vitality:25 Endurance:25

Dexterity:12 Intelligence:5 Wisdom:7

Free Points: 116

It’s smaller than last time I checked it, but I was level 15 then and I’m only level 1 now. Next time I’m level 15 I’ll be much stronger. My health doesn’t look as bad with my now lowered max, but I had about twice that much max health while doing all that fighting. 37 out of almost 500 sounds a lot worse than out of 250. Probably. Oh, my max mana actually went up finally. I guess it’s Wisdom and not Intelligence that increases it.

I have 116 free points, what was it I could do with them again? I focus on them.

Ding!

-Allocate to stats(1)-

-Acquire Class Skill(50)-

-Unlock 2nd Class(100)-

Oh! I have enough to acquire a class skill or unlock a second class. They are both way to expensive to just test like I did with my stats, so I should think about this. Will focusing on the options use them, or will I get an explanation? I don’t know. I think unlocking a second class seems self explanatory now that I’ve tiered up and I know it wouldn’t be that. Probably. Even if it did I think it would still be the better option of the two. It will probably let me choose another class though, doesn’t that mean I’d get the stats and skills from two classes as I level instead of 1?

I focus on the Unlock 2nd Class option and hope it gives me an explanation instead of just using it.

Ding!

Choose a starting class*New options unlocked*

-Fighter- For those who want to fight with their body.

-Thief- For those who want to fight with tricks.

-Healer- For those who want to fight with help.

-Mage- For those who want to fight with magic.

(New)-Tank- For those who want to fight taking hits.

(New)-Breeder- For those who want to fight with their body.

Ok well there goes that hope I suppose, now let’s go over the options. It says I have new ones. Fighter fights with body, I like that one still but I already picked it last time, so it’s a maybe. Thief fights with tricks which I still doubt I’d be good at so probably not that one. Healer fights with help, and I still don’t have help, unless babies count but even then I’m not sure they are going to follow me around or if I’d even want them to. Maybe. Mage fights with magic, I still haven’t seen any magic so I’m curious. Also a maybe. Ok a new option, Tank. For those who want to fight taking hits. I do take a lot of hits so I think it makes more sense than Healer or Mage. Ok last option is Breeder, For those who want to fight with their body. Isn’t that the same description as Fighter? Since it had to be unlocked does that make Breeder a better Fighter? I do have a lot of fun fighting with my amazing body.

“Breeder please Flatbox” I tell it, just like when I first picked Fighter.

Ding!

Flatbox leaves again. I think Classes.

Ding!

Classes

-Bloody Mother- (Tier 2) Level 1

(Per Lvl)+4 Str/Vit/End ,+2 Wis/Dex and +10 Free Points

-Breeder- (Tier 1) Level 1

(Per Lvl)+2 Vit/End ,+1 Wis/Int and +4 Free Points

I do a little wiggle on the dirt. Those are nice stats per level and I finally have a way to get more Intelligence. The gap between me and the stupid trees will only grow further. I laugh loudly and my babies look over at me again, I was probably too loud.

Ok I should get a level one skill from my new class so I should see what that is before I forget. Skills.

Magic:

I’m just confused now, too bad I’m not in combat or I’d have resistance against it. What does making children have to do with fighting with my body? I think… and try to think harder… Nope I still have no idea. I’ll ask the kids. “Hey kids, what does getting pregnant have to do with fighting with my body?” I yell to them. They freeze for a second, but don’t even look my way before ignoring me. I’ll have to figure it out myself with my smarts since they didn’t inherit that from me. Poor dumb babies.

-POV Unnamed Frogman-

It’s unfortunate that Mom isn’t very smart, but at least she’s strong. Really really strong, and a little scary when she’s fighting. I still can’t believe when she crawled out of the giant snake I’m eating’s mouth, punched one of its fangs over and over again while it was trying to toss her out, finally broke the fang off and then stabbed the snake to death from the inside with it’s own tooth. Brutal, but I witnessed it with my own eyes, we all did.

This was even after she had spent literal days fighting to protect us from other monsters. I want to be as strong as her one day, I just hope it doesn’t come at the cost of my Intelligence. My siblings and I have already discussed it and we want our spawn to have beautiful white skin just like us and Mom. So we have decided to stick together once we are fully grown and breed within the family. It should make us stronger too since we have genes from Mom, luckily 14 of our sisters have survived the great battle. That’s more than enough to ensure our spawn’s survival.

I look over at Mom again, laying there and staring at nothing.

Guardian Level 1

It says above her head, she has equipped a title now and has returned to level 1. She must have tiered up. Go Mom! I wonder how she got so tough, when we were watching her fight it was like her skin was made of stone, blows that would easily have killed me or my siblings just glanced off of her sexy white skin. When a big brown bear tried to push her down it was like she weighed more than it and she just caught it head on, even though it was easily 4 times her size. She pushed the bear over and then used a skill to crush its skull with her fist. She then slipped and fell on a blood puddle, crushing a goblin that had been clinging to her. I wouldn’t call her elegant, definitely not that, but it was still awe inspiring to watch.

Mom is my idol, so I’ve decided to ask her if she’ll breed with me before she leaves. The other males all want her too, but are too scared of her to ask or push her down. Not like they could anyways, she’s too amazing. I just need to finish becoming an adult first, and for that I need to grow, so I stop staring at her gorgeously toned and blood soaked body and continue eating from the giant snake. Maybe I’ll get lucky and absorb some of its power.

Ding!

Genetic Skill (Firm) Unlocked from your mother.

What good luck! Even with a snake so large we didn’t expect any of us to unlock a genetic skill, and from Mom no less. Hopefully it makes me more appealing to her as a mate when I pop the question.

-POV End-

There are going to be more stat blocks in early chapters as Opal and the readers learn about how the world works. I know some people don't like stat pages or skill descriptions that don't progress the plot, but some people enjoy reading them. Once the basic menus and systems are shown and explained I'll do a poll or two to decide if my readers would like more or less of them. Until then I hope you continue to enjoy reading my story.
