Volume 1 Chapter 10: Did I Suddenly Become a Poser?
A stunning and charming face appeared before me.
On the fair and snow-like face, a brilliant smile was as refreshing as a spring breeze, as if this smile could nourish the soul and make people willing to protect it at all costs.
The person in front of me was Ichinose Honami, the center of the class.
Chibi-ro, Himeno, Kanzaki, and Shibata were all gathered around her, with a group of unknown girls behind them.
Indeed, Ichinose was remarkable; she had such charisma on the first day.
“What’s wrong?” Hikigaya asked in a somewhat confused manner.
“I saw Hikigaya-san sleeping in class. Is everything okay?” Ichinose said with a hint of concern.
“It’s fine, just didn’t sleep well last night,” Hikigaya replied, rubbing his sleepy eyes.
Phew. It turns out they’re not here to bully me; that’s a relief.
“Hikigaya-san, are you feeling the same way?” Shibata smiled and said, “I was excited last night because it was my first time living alone. I didn’t expect to have such a luxurious single room. It’s really great to be able to attend this school.”
“Yeah,” Chibi-ro said excitedly, “And the pastries at Pallet Cafe are delicious, plus having so much pocket money is fantastic.”
No, no, no. How can you guys start chatting like this in front of me? It’s like we’re friends.
“Shiranami-san,” Kanzaki said seriously, “Suddenly having such a large sum of money can easily lead people astray and develop bad spending habits. It’s better to be more restrained.”
“I know,” Chibi-ro, or rather, Shiranami, weakly replied.
“In fact, Hikigaya-san, it’s like this,” Ichinose, seeming to sense his embarrassment, tactfully brought up a topic, “Yesterday, it seemed like you had something and left early. We discussed it with our classmates and felt that the points distributed monthly should be related to daily behavior and performance.”
“In simple terms, it’s about doing things that benefit the students. It’s better to save points a bit,” she added.
Sure enough, Ichinose was impressive. They had clearly deduced the matter of points and figured out how to earn more.
“That’s right.”
Shibata chuckled at Hikigaya, “So if you really feel tired, you can ask for permission from the teacher to rest in the health room.”
Oh, I see. They came to remind me not to doze off.
In that case, Hikigaya turned to look at Chibi-ro and Himeno.
“I’m really sorry about earlier,” Chibi-ro blushed slightly and bowed slightly.
It seems the eraser was intentionally dropped by her, creating a reason to poke him. After all, dropping an eraser is a common thing, and it might earn higher praise than directly poking someone.
“No need, how should I put it, thank you,” Hikigaya nodded.
It’s really great that Chibi-ro isn’t a malicious person.
“Chihiro, there’s no need to apologize at all,” Himeno said indifferently, “At first, he didn’t want to pick it up at all. He deliberately looked at me, hoping I would pick it up.”
She obviously knew and intentionally didn’t pick it up. Although it’s a fact, this person is really going too far. I remember her name is Hime-something-something-Yuki; let’s just call her Hime-gaki.
“Yuki-chan” Ichinose sighed helplessly, “Hikigaya probably just suspected it was your eraser and glanced at you. Being malicious towards others is not a good thing.”
“That’s right,” Chibi-ro quickly supported, “And, he didn’t feel annoyed even after picking it up over a dozen times. He never complained. I think it’s quite impressive.”
“Haha, it’s not that impressive,” Hikigaya scratched the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward.
If it were an ordinary person, picking up someone else’s eraser over a dozen times during one class would probably have earned them a slap by now.
Exactly, exactly. I am indeed an impressive person in your eyes.
“Indeed,” Hime-gaki showed an awkward smile and turned to say, “Sorry, Hikigaya-san, I misunderstood just now.”
“No problem,” Hikigaya said indifferently.
Hmm? What’s going on? Why does it feel like Hime-gaki doesn’t quite fit into this group?
“Instead of that, I have a bottle of coffee I bought this morning,” Kanzaki, from the front desk, took out a bottle of coffee from the drawer and handed it to him, saying, “If you don’t mind, take it, it should help you get through the afternoon.”
Is this for real? Why does it suddenly feel like the world is being unusually friendly to him? Is he going to transform into a poser starting from now?
“Haha, thanks, but it’s not necessary,” Hikigaya chuckled a few times.
He slept well last night; he just found the liberal arts class too boring, so he didn’t need it.
“Is that so?” Kanzaki nodded, indifferent, “I’ll keep it then. Let me know if you need it anytime.”
Hey, hey, hey. This kindness seems a bit excessive. Is there some hidden intention behind this?
“No need,” Hikigaya said awkwardly.
It’s the first time he’s been surrounded by so many people, having such friendly interactions, and it feels a bit uncomfortable.
“Oh, by the way,” Shibata brought up a topic, “After school is the club orientation meeting. Hikigaya-san, do you want to go and check it out together?”
“Haha, no—” Hikigaya chuckled a couple of times, but before he could finish, he heard Kanzaki say, “Yeah, you’re the only one missing.”
“Huh?” Hikigaya was slightly stunned, not understanding what this meant. By the way, who wants to attend some club orientation meeting? He’s a purebred member of the “Go Home Club.”
“Yeah,” Ichinose nodded with a smile, “Shibata-san inquired about it at the soccer club yesterday. Generally, club orientation meetings are held on the second day of school at 5 PM, organized by the student council.”
“So we discussed this morning, and in the afternoon, we’re all going to the club orientation meeting together, right, everyone?”
Hey, hey, hey. There are actually people gathering information from various clubs in advance. Aren’t you guys being a bit too outstanding?
In reality, Shibata only went to the soccer club to apply for membership.
“Yes, Hikigaya-san, let’s go together after school!”
“By the way, Hikigaya-san, do you have any clubs you’re interested in joining?”
“Yesterday, you weren’t here for karaoke, so how about we do it today?”
“Sounds good, I agree. I’ll book a room in advance. Hikigaya, is there anything you don’t eat?”
With Ichinose’s inquiry, the classroom became lively with everyone asking questions.
“No, it’s not necessary,” Hikigaya forced a smile and said, “I have something in the afternoon, so at most, I can only attend the club orientation meeting.”
“Oh, that’s a pity,” Ichinose expressed some regret.
“Next time for sure!” Hikigaya said awkwardly.
It’s not like he really wants to join a club. It’s just that he overheard that the club orientation meeting is organized by the student council, as mentioned in the school guide. Most school affairs are managed by the student council. As for karaoke, he’s really not accustomed to it.
