Chapter 46: Friendships and Farewells
"I'll let you two know the place tomorrow." Anthony reiterated as we left the library.
"I'll be there." Lisa confirmed.
"As will I." I added.
"I totally understand if either of you back out."
"We'll be fine, besides, I'm curious what will happen." Lisa told him.
"Okay, well, I'll see you two back in the common room." Anthony replied, then strode off.
"Do you think this is a good idea?" I asked Lisa.
"Probably not, but, I don't know if it's the mother in me, or our house, but I am curious what will happen."
"That's the same way I'm feeling." I admitted.
"Well, our house is all about learning. If this goes horribly wrong, that just means we learnt that Bezoar Egg's and Chimaera Tear's aren't met to go to together."
"The scientific method." I replied.
"Exactly."
We began making our ways through the corridors.
"What time are you supposed to meet Professor Flitwick?" Lisa asked.
"I should probably start heading that way." I replied.
"Well I'll leave you to it. I think I'm going to take Michael and Terry's advice and get some sleep."
Lisa headed back towards the common room, while I made my way towards Professor Flitwick's office. I arrived around two thirty and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Came the Professor cheerful voice.
I entered the office. Sitting at the desk looking at papers was Professor Flitwick.
"Sir?" I asked.
"Ah, Miss Potter. I was wondering when you'd arrive." He said as he noticed me.
"If you're busy sir. I could come back later." I said, motioning to the papers.
"You're no bother at all." He assured me. With a wave of his wand the papers began to sort themselves into the drawers while I watched in amazement.
"Quite useful spell there." He told me chuckling.
"Quite." I replied in amazement.
"Sit down." He told me as he motioned to the chair opposite his. "So you wanted to know about your parents?" He confirmed with me as I sat down.
"Yes sir."
"Before I begin, what do you know?" He asked me with a slight frown.
"Well...I know they died to protect Harry and I. Hagrid said they were good people..." I began trying to think everything about my parents. As I struggled to list anything, Flitwick's usually cheerful expression was replaced with a serious frown.
"Hm. What did you current guardians tell you?" He asked me.
"Nothing. I didn't know magic was a thing until our birthday." I told him.
"So until a month ago you had no idea about anything?" He asked me concerned.
"No." I replied embarrassed.
"What did they tell you happened to your parents?"
"That they died in a car crash."
At that Professor Flitwick face went pale, he gripped the edge of his desk, and for the first time I'd known him he looked angry.
"That they died in a car crash?" He asked me again.
"Yeah, Hagrid told us what really happened." I replied.
Flitwick shook his head, then took a few deep breaths.
"Well you're parent's were both sorted in Seventy One. You're father was a star Quidditch player, and if you don't mind me saying quite the trouble maker."
"Really?"
"Indeed, why I gave him more Detention's than I could remember." Flitwick recalled shaking his head.
"What about my mother?" I asked.
Your mother was one of the best of her year. She was one of the kindest student's, but could be very fiery if angered."
"And they where both in Gryffindor?"
"Indeed."
"Do you think they're fine with me not being In Gryffindor?" I asked nervously.
"Of course they are. In fact your mother had friend's from all the houses." Flitwick assured me.
"Even Slytherin?" I asked.
"Yes, even Slytherin." Flitwick confirmed.
"Who were they?"
"It was so long ago, I can't remember." Flitwick answered, though like Hagrid he didn't meet my eyes.
"Who were some of my parent's friends you can remember then?" I asked.
"Your mother's best friends were Mary Macdonald, and Marlene McKinnon. Both...didn't make it through the last war."
"Oh..."
"Lot's of good people died to stop you-know-who, Miss Potter."
I nodded solemnly. "What about my father's friends?" I asked.
"Your father was the leader of a group of Gryffindor boys. If I recall Remus Lupin was a friend of his, as was Peter Pettigrew."
Again I noticed Professor Flitwick seemed to be...hiding something?
"What happened to them?" I asked curiously.
"Like your mother's friends, Peter didn't make it through the war."
"What about Remus?"
"He's still around, though he has a condition that makes it hard for him to travel."
