Chapter 45: Daring to Discover
Curious I began reading the chapter that Anthony had it flipped to. I could see why Anthony was obsessed, the Chimaera was quite interesting and it's tears did have strange properties. I had to admit...it was interesting.
"How do you plan to get the tear?" I asked.
"Or the Bezoar egg?" Lisa added.
"I already have the tear." Anthony replied pulling a small phial out from under his robes.
"How'd you get that?" Lisa asked.
"Morag got it for me." He replied.
"Morag?" I asked.
"Her mother's big on animals." Anthony reminded me.
"What about the Egg? Snape won't just give them out." Lisa asked.
"I payed a Seventh year to get me one." He answered casually.
"What? Who?" I asked.
"Eliza Hopkirk. She's a friend of an older cousin of mine who, graduated last year."
"How's she going to get a Bezoar egg?" Lisa asked skeptically.
"Because she's a seventh year and there allowed to have one for NEWT's" Anthony answered.
"Hmm, when do you plan to do all this?" I asked.
"Tomorrow." Anthony answered casually.
"Tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I already have what I need, just need a large room. Plenty of spare classrooms around here, and my cauldron." He explained.
"And what do we need to do?" I asked, causing both to look at me.
"We?" Anthony asked.
"Yeah, if you two are doing this, then who am I to miss out." I told the pair grinning.
"Neither of you have to help. This could end up blowing up in our faces, literally." Anthony told us warningly.
"I already told you, I owe you. Besides wouldn't want you having all the fun." Lisa commented. Anthony shook his head.
"Fine, but don't be surprised if this blows up in our faces."
"It will blow up in your faces." A new voice startled all of us, we all turned around as a Gryffindor girl with bushy brown hair, large front teeth, and a bossy voice.
"Um, who are..."
"Mixing ingredients not in the curriculum, not under adult supervision. Is very dangerous." The girl scolded us.
"Thanks for the advice..."Lisa told the girl rubbing the back of her head.
"You aren't seriously going to do it?! What if it explodes? What if you're killed?"
"We won't be." Anthony told her confidently.
"I should tell Madam Prince, she'd take that book and give you all a stern warning..."
"Hermione." I said, and the girl finally stopped. Looking straight at me with a curious look.
"How do you know my name?" She asked.
"Because Harry's in Gryffindor, and I tried to help Neville find Trevor on the train too." I replied.
"You know her?" Anthony asked me.
"Know of her." I replied.
"You're Sarah Potter." Hermione confirmed.
"The one and only."
"All the more reason to not get yourself blown up a week into school." She scolded me.
"Listen, Hermione, we are not going to get ourselves blown up. We'll be fine." Lisa told her.
"What if you do, or worse what if you get into trouble. What if you're Expelled?" She said the last part like it was worse than death.
"We will worry about ourselves Hermione. Now if you'll excuse us." Anthony said.
"Hmph...Don't say I didn't warn you." Hermione gave us one last disapproving look then marched away.
"That was..." Lisa began.
"Interesting." I finished.
"Well, as long as she doesn't say anything we should be fine." Anthony said not even glancing up from the book.
"So, you want to do this tomorrow." I confirmed.
"Yes, I'll look around for a spare classroom. Like I said there are loads that haven't been touched in years."
"What if we're caught?" Lisa asked nervously.
"We are hardly the first Ravenclaw first years to do something...experimental. I've heard loads of stories from my parent's about explosions, and fires from members of our house. All for learning."
"And if it does blow up in our face?" Lisa asked crossing her arms.
"As our head of house, Professor Flitwick would be in charge of our safety, then our discipline." Anthony answered.
"What would he do?" I asked.
"Most Likely Detention. Unlike Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick doesn't like to punish the whole house unless you do something horrible."
"You seem pretty aware of how this all works." Lisa stated.
"Let's just say my parent's we're no stranger's to academic consequences." Anthony said smirking.
"And want our the potential upsides if it doesn't blow up in our face?" I asked.
"Who knows! It's the mystery uncovered that's the reward." Anthony said excitedly.
"Do you have any idea how this will turn out?" Lisa asked him skeptically.
"...No."
