Chapter 63: Skeleton Dragon
Ayaan looked at the dark bat which melted in the shadows of the undead plane. It was just at the level of a high mage, but very few great mages would be able to discover it in the stealth mode.
After five minutes, the bat arrived at the entrance of the dragon's den. There were already five undead commanders guarding the entrance. The bat didn't waste its time there and passed them with no effort at all.
The perception of a mage or any other creature depended on its soul power, but not many undead creatures had powerful souls except those spirit type undead. That's why the perception of these great mages was many times lower than the ordinary mages in the human world.
Screech!
Eventually, the bat arrived inside the cave, and instantly a ghastly screech sounded, making it shiver in terror, following that an unbearable pressure descended upon its small body. However, it didn't come out of the shadows; without looking around it dashed at the corner of the cave, hiding its trembling body.
The shadow bats were cowardly by nature, they were meek, and would always remain hidden in the shadows. It was their greatest strength and at the same time greatest weakness.
It was their strength because it would increase their rate of survival, and weakness because if any creature was able to find the bat, it would be hard to fight the enemy which could lead ultimately to its death — it was a weak creature which only knew how to hide. Nonetheless, its escaping techniques were also not ordinary, which was enough for it to survive any peril.
At last, when the pressure faded, the bat observed its surroundings. At the end of the cave was an altar, on which an illusory figure was shackled. The body was continuously releasing a thick rotten smell. It was similar to the skill of the devouring spirits; however, the fog coming from its body wasn't black but red!
The shackled figure struggled in the chains but to no avail. The red glow in its body was dimming gradually. When every attempt of the shackled creature failed it roared furiously.
"Do you want to start a war between our two empires, Bryzod!?"
As the malignant roar of the illusory figure echoed, two red eyes shined in the darkness, revealing a colossal body full of black bones — the mouth revealed vicious teeth inside; there was no horn at its head but a black spike; there were no scales on its body because only bones remained.
However, the skeleton dragon had a long neck, a huge pair of wings made of dark bones could be seen with a large tail at its back.
The shadow bat shivered when it saw the dragon made of bones. Nonetheless, it didn't make a sound and remained in the darkness, spying on the conversation of the two undead creatures.
"War? Who cares about the war!? I want to become stronger and I will do anything to do that!" the thunderous voice sounded when the frame of bones spoke, making the shadow bat flinch in terror.
The twisted expression appeared on the face of the illusory figure, it looked at the skeleton, shouting, "Stop! Don't devour me!"
Yes, the skeleton dragon was devouring this devouring spirit this whole time. By devouring the spirit, it wanted to make a breakthrough to the seventh level of the great mage.
As the Bryzod saw the struggling spirit general in front of him, the skeleton frame spoke, "Stop? Why should I stop? After devouring you I will reach the seventh level, even eighth level spirit wouldn't be able to defeat me by then. Hahaha!"
"You have gone completely mad, Bryzod! Do you think the spirit empire would forgive you for this? They will start a war!" the spirit general yelled anxiously.
Bryzod sneered at the spirit but didn't dwell any further on this stupid quarrel and continued to devour the spirit.
This evil spirit was none other than the general of the spirit empire who was safeguarding the border; however, yesterday, this malevolence dragon challenged it. In the fit of rage, the spirit general accepted the challenge and went with the skeleton to another place for a dual.
However, when the fight started it realised that although it was one level higher than the skeleton general, it couldn't match the skeleton dragon because of its spell, spirit devouring!
Nevertheless, the spirit tried to escape but the dragon captured it nonetheless.
After understanding the situation inside the skeleton dragon's den, the bat silently escaped. It didn't want to remain here even a single second more. This place was far too terrifying.
Although Ayaan killed it before making it undead; it still had its soul and all the feelings of fear and happiness, which any creature would have, had inside the bat.
At first, when Ayaan used his soul-devouring spell and devoured the souls of many creatures; then he tried to make them undead. However, every time he tried he failed. He didn't know what was wrong and why his undead revive skill was failing again and again.
Eventually, when Ayaan fought with some beast in another plane, he again used his soul devourer to kill them because he wanted to strengthen his soul power.
Subsequently, he again tried to make them undead soldiers and failed one by one. At last, he looked at the beast which was killed by his skeleton and used his spell; at that time he succeeded!
Finally, Ayaan realised that for making an undead soldier, the soul was necessary. Previously he devoured the souls that's why his spell failed. He also found that every skeleton, even the lowest class of the skeleton had a soul, that's why he was able to control them with death spells or he would fail as he did previously.
He realized that when a corpse would become an undead it would give birth to the embryonic form of the soul. As that soul becomes stronger the intelligence of the undead would also increase.
However, he didn't know if there was any connection between the previous soul and the new soul which formed inside those skeletons because he didn't kill them like his other undead; their soul formed on its on as times passed and turned them into the undead.
According to Ayaan, they weren't undead or anything but another lifeform altogether.
Nevertheless, At this time, the shadow bat reached Ayaan and whispered everything which it saw. Ayaan and his undead's consciousness were connected; therefore he could understand his every undead soldier.
Although Ayaan was bewildered by something because the shadow bat returned very fast, it didn't take much time before coming out of the cave, however, he didn't dwell on it and everything was good until now.
After hearing the report of the shadow bat, Ayaan looked at the den with a grave expression. He didn't want to back down, furthermore, that skeleton was still only at the sixth level and with the help of all his undead skeletons, he could match win against it.
Moreover, there were some more skeletons waiting for him to be tamed, curling his lips in a weird angle at the thought.
Not wasting any time, Ayaan proceeded with his undead army. He stopped fifty metres away from the mouth of the cave and observed the skeletons, standing there.
Out of six skeletons, two were at the level of 3rd level of great mage and four were at the level of 2nd great mage. It wasn't hard for him to deal with them.
He chose six undead skeletons of his own, ordering them to attack the guards at the cave's entrance.
Hearing Ayaan's command, all the six skeletons dashed frantically towards the enemy. When the skeleton at the mouth of the cave saw undead skeletons sprinting towards them with hostile looks, a bewildered expression appeared on their bony faces.
They could clearly tell that these six were the undead commander and not some brainless low-grade undead which would attack anyone. Then why were these commanders behaving like those brainless skeletons?
All the six skeletons exchanged glances and became ready for the fight, taking out their sabres which were hanging on their waist; though there was no waist left. This situation was really out of the ordinary for these skeleton commanders.
Both sides used their sabres to fight. The undead skeletons physical attack wasn't any weaker than the spell of a mage. Furthermore, they themselves could use a few death elemental spells; though those spells weren't that effective on other undead. Therefore, it was better to use physical strength to fight with the enemy.
Boom!
The thunderous sound resonated in the whole mountain as the two weapons collided. Ayaan remained standing at the side without interfering. He wanted to lure the dragon general out of his den and stop his breakthrough anyhow.
That was the reason he was making such a scene, he knew that he could match against the general until it was at the 6th level. However, if that skeleton was able to reach the 7th level, he won't have any option other than escaping.
Bang!
Bang!
The fight slowly became even more intense, however, the dragon skeleton didn't appear.
Ayaan looked at the entrance of the cave, frowning. Didn't that stupid dragon hear the commotion outside? Why is he still not out? Or is he thinking that his skeleton commanders are enough to deal with everything?
After ten minutes of continuous fighting, Ayaanl started to lose his patience and ordered his skeletons to attack even more aggressively.
As the skeletons attacked the guards of the door, Ayaan chanted the undead controller spell to control the skeletons.
One by one all the six skeleton guards became his undead soldiers. However, before he could proceed a deafening sound resonated in the whole mountain.
Booom!
The dragon general shattered the roof of his den and appeared above the mountain, laughing uproariously, "Hahaha, I have broken through! I am 7th level great mage now!"
"Fuck!" As Ayaan saw the development of the situation he cursed loudly.
"Hmm?" the general looked at the Ayaan and an enraged expression appeared on his face. This human had humiliated him previously. Now was the right time to take his revenge!
Rooar!
"How the fuck it has broken through this fast!?" Ayaan shouted furiously at his bad luck.
