Chapter 123: Hogwarts, Please Graduate Soon, Ch 67.3
"You just dragged us over here to be your free laborers," Qiu said, wiping the small beads of sweat on her forehead. The recent gardening had made her robe dirty, while Hermione had become quite the mess as well, with mud all over her face.
"Don't say that!" Wayne replied with a smile, "I'll give you a few biting cabbages as payment."
"I don't want them."
"Me neither."
Both girls expressed their disdain; biting cabbages were both ugly and fierce, and only Wayne seemed to like them.
Wayne asked, "So what do you want instead?"
After a moment of thought, Hermione responded, "A few bottles of that potion from last time. I found it quite useful."
"What potion?" Qiu inquired curiously.
"The ordinary invigorating potion that I taught her during the charms lesson."
"You taught Hermione a charm?" Qiu glared at him, displeased, "Why didn't you teach me?"
Wayne shrugged, "You've been busy with Quidditch practice and already have enough on your plate."
"But I don't care! I want to participate too," Qiu insisted.
Wayne had no choice but to agree. After receiving their favors, Hermione and Qiu left Wayne to his work late into the night.
Sitting at his writing desk, Wayne was writing a letter to Newt. He was quite interested in this older student, who was almost like the Harry Potter of a previous era. Plus, Newt's expertise in magical creatures was truly admirable.
What mattered most was… Wayne had his eye on Newt's case. He had indeed mastered the Undetectable Extension Charm and had even advanced it, but the various pockets in his room still paled in comparison to that case.
Creating a portable carry-all for the Forbidden Forest was still a long way off. Newt's case involved not only the extension charm but also aspects of spatial fixation, magical conversion, and various alchemical complexities. It was an exceptionally sophisticated piece of alchemical craftsmanship, rooted in the unique expertise of the Scamander family, a treasured secret of a pure-blood lineage.
Newt's brother had been appointed the head of the Auror office at a young age. Even though Newt had been expelled, his magical prowess remained formidable, allowing him to hold his own against Grindelwald. The fact that he wasn't included in the Sacred Twenty-Eight was purely a result of personal vendettas.
According to rumors, Newt did not have a good relationship with Cantankerous Not, the author of "The Directory of Pure-Bloods," and strongly disliked his advocacy for pure-blood families. Hence, he had been deliberately excluded.
Wayne was not yet capable of crafting such a magical trunk, so he planned to negotiate a trade with Newt for one. It wouldn't hurt to part with a bit of the Phoenix's allure. However, he definitely wouldn't bring it up outright; first, he would write a letter to build rapport, gradually coaxing Newt.
Wayne intended to visit the United States during Christmas and would bring it up when he visited. His reasons for visiting weren't exclusively about Newt, as he had other matters to attend to. This year was particularly special, as a monumental event was set to occur during Christmas—a colossal structure would collapse, and countless people would leave with their mouths full.
