Chapter 78: Hogwarts, Please Graduate Soon, Ch 58.5
What did impersonating a teacher mean? This was me hiding my talents!
"Master, I will do my best," Quirrell quickly pledged his loyalty. "I will definitely get you the phoenix's tears to help you regain your power."
At this point, he hesitated again. "Master, Snape was also once your subordinate. Why not let me seek his assistance?"
"Snape?" Voldemort's voice was grave. "He is indeed far superior to you, and smarter."
Quirrell hung his head in shame. However, deep down, he felt a bit resentful.
Voldemort continued, "But it is precisely because he is too exceptional that I cannot present myself before him. Ten years have passed… I am no longer the Dark Lord I once was. Would someone like him, a Slytherin full of ambition, still be willing to recognize me as his master?"
"If he betrays you…" Quirrell's eyes flashed with malice. "Then I will kill him!"
"Your life is of no importance to me, but if my existence is exposed, you wouldn't be able to die enough times to pay for it!" Voldemort said coldly. "You have one week. If you can't handle that little wizard by then, you know what the consequences will be."
With that, Voldemort closed his eyes to rest. His accumulated strength was far too weak; every extra word was a waste of his life.
Quirrell gently sent the scarf up, his eyes glinting with cold light.
Wayne Lawrence…
"Wayne, please stop bullying Professor Quirrell," Hermione advised softly during History of Magic class. "After all, he is our teacher…"
Wayne yawned and nonchalantly asked, "Then may I ask Miss Granger, what have you learned from this teacher?"
After stammering for a while, Hermione finally found a reason: "Stay away from vampires?"
"Hehe, you really know how to make me laugh," Wayne said with a forced smile. "It would be better to learn from me how to deal with vampires. I don't charge tuition; just give me a half-hour massage."
"You're impossible," the little witch lightly swatted him and dropped the subject of Quirrell.
In truth, she didn't like the useless Quirrell either; her urging Wayne was merely out of respect for a teacher from a student's standpoint.
Secretly, Hermione had already written several complaint letters to Dumbledore. Some about Quirrell, some about Professor Binns, and even about how Astronomy class affected students' sleep.
But Dumbledore only replied to Hermione once, telling her that it was fine to take a short nap in Astronomy class since it wasn't particularly useful anyway.
This infuriated the little witch.
At the podium, Professor Binns continued his hypnotic lecture. Today he spoke of how wizards aided various city-states in battling Persia during ancient Greece.
What should have been a magnificent epic turned monotonous under his recounting.
Wayne's deep eyes were lost in thought, considering Quirrell's recent hints at possibly having ulterior motives regarding the phoenix.
Was this what Voldemort meant?
