Vol. 1 Chapter 3.4 - The Dog and Wolf's Time (1.4)
But as Si-wol turned his head, he saw that the ghost had not yet disappeared from the game screen. Thanks to that, he squeezed his eyes shut and firmly grabbed onto Ian’s hand once more.
“…..”
Ian couldn’t help but be startled as well. Si-wol would tremble and get scared as if he had seen a ghost every time Ian said something. But when faced with something truly terrifying, he would urgently grab onto Ian’s hand as if looking for someone to protect him.
Ian looked down at Si-wol’s pale, trembling hands that had grabbed onto his own. The prominent bones protruded from Si-wol’s thin hand, making it seem even more fragile. Despite holding onto Ian’s hand, Si-wol’s trembling only intensified, making him appear even more frightened.
The cold sweat on Si-wol’s palm made Ian’s hand moist as well. Through the touch, he could feel the strong, thumping heartbeat of Si-wol. Whether it was contagious through their joined hands or not, strangely, Ian’s own chest began to flutter as well.
‘What’s going on…?’
Ian glanced briefly at the monitor. The ghost was still there, frightening Si-wol with its grotesque appearance. However, it didn’t affect Ian at all. After experiencing battles with far more brutal and eerie vampires, it was only natural.
‘Then why…?’
Ian looked down at his hand again. Si-wol’s pale and thin hands clung desperately as if it were the only thing that matters. He sought salvation from the hunter who brought death upon him. Strangely, the more he witnessed this sight, the stronger the thumping in his chest became. This was especially true since Si-wol was usually so intimidated by him that he would never touch him first.
“
Heuuk
…!”
Si-wol snapped out of it and quickly withdrew his hand from Ian’s grasp. Then, he nervously glanced sideways, as if worried that Ian would be angry at him for grabbing onto him.
“…..”
Ian became even more puzzled. Instead of feeling relieved when Si-wol released his hand on his own, he felt a strange sense of discomfort. However, he couldn’t pinpoint the source of this discomfort.
“See? I-I told you! I didn’t want to play this game…
hic
! No, it’s not because I’m scared, it’s,
hic
! …
hic
!”
Si-wol, shocked by his own actions of voluntarily grabbing Ian’s hand twice, eventually burst into tears and hiccupped.
He desperately tried to calm his sobbing and hiccups by pressing his hand against his chest. He held his breath and even drank a glass of water, but it was of no use.
“Uh,
hic
! What do I do? The hiccups,
hic
! won’t stop. How am I supposed to continue the broadcast? It’s all because,
hic
! of everyone.”
≫ (Feeling unjust!)
≫ No ㅠㅠ you knew that a ghost would pop out there.
≫ You knew it and still got scared ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
≫ The person who said it’s not scary: Vampi-nim; the person who got startled: Vampi-nim; the person hiccuping: Vampi-nim; the person who just watched: Us
≫ Oing ㅠㅠ??
≫ Vampi-nim, please make the hiccups stop ㅋㅋ
≫ Put chopsticks in the shape of a cross on top of a cup of water and take a sip from four different sides!
≫ No, just keep your head down and drink water; the hiccups will stop.
≫ If you hold your breath for about a minute, the hiccups should stop.
≫ Oh my god, Vampi-nim hiccupped 30 times until now! If we add 20 more, it will be death;
≫ 31
≫ 32
≫ 18 more to go now
≫Rest in peace in advance~
≫ ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Enough teasing, let’s help a bit ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
≫ Vampi-nim, maybe the hiccups will stop if you play one more time?
≫ That’s right ㅋㅋㅋ If he gets scared again after seeing the ghost, the hiccups might stop ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
“
Heuu
, If I had known you all,
hic
, would be cruel like this, I would have ended the stream long ago.
Hic
! Seriously.”
Si-wol looked through the chat window with watery eyes and tried to hold his breath. Even if he didn’t breathe, he wouldn’t die, so he could hold his breath until the hiccups stopped.
So, he just silently looked at the chat reactions and kept his mouth shut. Unexpectedly, a warm touch came onto the back of his hand.
“….?!”
Si-wol froze, too stunned to even scream. His tightly-closed mouth snapped open to reveal his disbelief. With his rabbit-like eyes, Si-wol looked blankly beside him. There, without any warning, was Ian, who had unexpectedly grabbed his hand.
‘W-Why is he… holding my hand?’
Si-wol tried to speculate with a dumbfounded look.
Why is he holding my hand? Could it be revenge for grabbing his hand without permission? Is he trying to twist my wrist? B-But because I was so scared, I had to grab onto something. Even if that something is a hunter more terrifying than a ghost.
Then, Ian’s hand slowly moved away without a word.
“Huh…?”
Si-wol looked at the large hand that was leaving the back of his hand with a puzzled expression. He thought Ian would twist his wrist for daring to touch his hand and soiling it with his cold sweat, but nothing happened. He simply held onto his hand for a moment and then let it go.
Si-wol unknowingly sent a subtly regretful look. The large hand, so big compared to his, completely enveloped his hand, causing the trembling from fear to subside for a moment.
Then, Si-wol realized that he had been looking at him from the side for quite some time and quickly turned his head. As expected, the chat box went wild.
≫ Vampi-nim, what are you looking at??
≫ What’s there??
≫ OMG; Is it a ghost???
≫ Kyaaaaaah!!!!
≫ So scary;; What the hell was that?
≫ Where is it?ㅠㅠ F*ck, so scary111!!!!
≫ Ahhhhhhh ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
≫ ^^ I should sleep with my mom tonight
≫ I’m shivering instead of Vampi-nim…ㅠ
≫ I’ll change my underwear and come back~
“Ah, it’s nothing! I just heard some noise and looked in that direction.”
Si-wol reassured the agitated viewers while tightly clenching his fist. The warmth of his hand still lingered on his palm, giving him a comforting sensation.
≫ That’s even scarier ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
≫ OMG ㅠㅠ What kind of sound is that if you live alone, Vampi-nim? ㅠㅠㅠ
≫ Ghost: Did you call me?
≫ ^^ I should sleep with my mom and dad tonight
≫ Huh? But you’re not hiccuping anymore
≫ Yeah, really
≫ You didn’t do anything; how did it stop ㅋㅋ It’s amazing
≫ ㅠㅠ I’m scared, Vampi-nim
≫ Is there a ghost next to you?
≫ Oh no, something black just passed behind you!!!
“What?! W-Why are you saying there’s a ghost? There’s no one here! Please stop saying such things… it’s even scarier.”
Si-wol hurriedly continued playing the game to prevent further teasing from the viewers. Beside him, Ian looked down at his hand with an ambiguous expression.
“……”
In an attempt to confirm the unpleasant feeling swirling in his chest, Ian reached out and held Si-wol’s hand. However, even though he made contact, he couldn’t be sure of anything. Si-wol’s startled reaction, as if he had really seen a ghost at Ian’s touch, only deepened his sense of unease.
‘Am I really that scary? Scarier than the ghost in the monitor?’
Recently, it felt like he had been unusually accommodating. But if there was no significant change from when they first met, then it was all for nothing. He even began to think that he had been rude despite going out of his way to be attentive. After all, Ian knew better that there had never been a case where a hunter had been this considerate to a vampire.
At that moment, Si-wol looked at the chat where viewers were teasing him about there being a ghost in the room and started to tear up.
“Ah, please stop… I’m playing a horror game right now, and this is just too much. Do you all really want to see me faint? Really? Oh. Look at this. ‘Win the game and get 100,000 won’ mission has come up. Wow, someone call an ambulance in advance. I’ll need to take it later.”
As he spoke, Si-wol subtly lowered one hand under the desk. Then, hesitatingly, he reached towards Ian, gently grabbing the tip of his pinky finger. Naturally, Ian’s bewildered gaze followed his finger.
‘What is he up to?’
First, he grabs his hand twice without permission, as if he had seen a ghost, and now he timidly approaches and grabs his hand. Very much like Si-wol, very timid and insignificant.
But what was truly amusing was that as Si-wol approached first, the discomfort in his chest, which had been tensed up, quickly subsided. And this was the third unique characteristic of Si-wol, as Ian noted.
‘If a vampire approaches a hunter first… what should I do?’
