Chapter 16 - III
Quietly exiting the room, Xie Qi went to the hospital cafeteria and bought six steaming buns and two cups of soy milk, carrying them to Jiang Sining’s ward.
Jiang Sining didn’t wake up at this moment, so Xie Qi quietly went in. He sat on a chair and ate three buns himself, leaving three buns for Jiang Sining. He was afraid they would get cold, so he put them in his arms to keep them warm.
Jiang Sining still didn’t wake up after he was done eating. Worried that the steamed buns and soy milk would not taste good when cold, Xie Qi got up and walked over to wake Jiang Sining, saying, “Mom, go to bed after breakfast. The steamed buns will get cold later.”
Jiang Sining rubbed her sleepy eyes and woke up.
Xie Qi placed steamed buns and soy milk on the table, filled the basin with water, and brought over a towel, toothpaste, toothbrush, and tooth cup. He had brought all these items when he came to the hospital the day after learning about the accident, along with Teacher Hou’s daily necessities and clothes. Unfortunately, they were not needed yet.
After taking care of Jiang Sining and washing up, he handed her the steamed buns and soy milk.
Jiang Sining’s mind cleared, and she asked, “Why did you come here so early today? Why haven’t you changed your clothes or taken a shower?”
Xie Qi replied, “I washed up, but the clothes didn’t dry, so I’m wearing this.”
Jiang Sining took a bite of the bun and commented, “It’s not delicious.”
Xie Qi responded, “Bear with it. No breakfast shops outside are open this early, so the hospital cafeteria is the only option.”
Jiang Sining didn’t say anything and focused on eating. After drinking more than half a cup of soy milk, she said, “I borrowed 50,000 yuan from my colleagues, and I will transfer it to you later…”
She continued awkwardly, “Go and repay Xie Dai first.”
Xie Qi: “…”
It seemed she genuinely believed he obtained the money because of Xie Dai.
He did get some, and he only got 100,000…
But since he wasn’t going back, he might as well return the 100,000.
Xie Qi said simply, “Okay, transfer it to me, and I will return it.”
Jiang Sining remarked, “As expected, you lied to me before.”
Xie Qi couldn’t hold it back and said, “You think I won’t find him to borrow money? How can I pay the medical bills for both of you? I am in good health. Going to Xie Dai’s place to embarrass myself is better than going to that club to sell my body, right? And he is my biological father. What’s wrong with me asking for money from him? He wants to have a child without caring about raising it? You should have asked for money when you divorced. Even if you don’t need money, you should at least have a house in B city, by now? You know what’s happening in B city now? How much does an 80-square-meter house cost on the outskirts?”
“It costs eight million! This is not the central area. If it were in the central area, you couldn’t buy an 80-square-meter house for less than 160,000 per square meter. If you have a luxury house casually, how much money could you have now? Isn’t it simple and easy to pay 300,000 yuan for medical expenses?”
Xie Qi’s mood had always been stable, but now he was surprisingly a little nervous. Upon reflection, it seemed that the resentment he had suppressed for so many days regarding Jiang Sining’s divorce and departure was growing day by day. Despite reassuring his mother, he couldn’t suppress those resentments. When Jiang Sining spoke, he couldn’t help but burst out.
Well, after the two of them had a car accident, he inquired about the required funds, he didn’t think about seeking his biological father at that time. His mind went blank, and anxiety burned in his heart, as if being roasted on a fire. After leaving the hospital, he did go to the club, but refrained from entering. His pride didn’t allow him into such a place.
As a young man, he couldn’t not know the dirt and filth present there.
.
Jiang Sining whispered, “Your father is like that, how can I keep up? Besides, he has already signed a prenuptial agreement. I can’t get his money after the divorce. Why are you so shameless?”
Xie Qi, shocked, exclaimed, “…You actually signed a prenuptial agreement with him? Oh my God, why did you marry him?”
Jiang Sining confessed, “…Xie Dai was indeed quite handsome at that time.”
Xie Qi: “…”
Looks could be deceiving.
He felt his eyes hurting again, having run out of eye drops. He needed to buy more today. Rubbing his eyes, he suggested, “As long as you want it, there is always a way. Go cry at his company, embarrass him, or find someone to expose him. Pull up banners in front of his company, letting everyone know he’s a bastard who abandoned his wife and children. He values his image most and will compensate you just to make you leave peacefully.”
Jiang Sining turned away and said, “I can’t do such a thing.”
Xie Qi said, “…”
Well, he already paid the medical bills, so he should calm down a bit. “You can give me the money, but I won’t pay him back yet. I need to pay back those donations.”
Jiang Sining said, “That’s okay.”
She then took out his mobile phone and transferred the money to his bank card, saying, “You pay it back first, and I will borrow more later.”
Xie Qi responded, “Yeah.”
.
Leaving the hospital, Xie Qi found a shared bicycle, rode a few kilometers to a familiar drugstore, and bought his own eye drops.
After walking out, he noticed the fluffy hair sticking out of the back of his head wearing a baseball cap in front of the glass door. Then he remembered that he hadn’t cut his hair in two months.
So, he turned into the barber shop and asked Tony to cut it shorter. Fearful of damage, he kept saying, “Just cut it shorter.”
He declined Tony’s sales tactics to make him spent a lot of money. The haircut costed him 15 yuan.
Xie Qi looked in the mirror, felt his forehead refreshed, put on his baseball cap with satisfaction, rode a shared bicycle, and returned to the hospital.
As soon as he parked the bike, a familiar voice came from behind. Xie Qi turned around and saw Yao Wenzhu. She looked at him with some surprise and said, “You didn’t change into the clothes I bought for you?”
Xie Qi was stunned for a moment, opened his mouth, but before he spoke, Yao Wenzhu said somewhat complicatedly, “Why are you so polite to me? Those are all bought for you. I will be happy when you wear them. You are too polite with me.”
Xie Qi: “…”
He hesitated, wanting to explain, but Yao Wenzhu continued, “Didn’t you see those sneakers I bought you? I thought you would like them very much at your age. Even people at your husband’s age love these. Don’t you like them?”
Xie Qi’s golden eyes flashed slightly, and his voice sounded a little hollow: “…I like it.”
It was evident that Yao Wenzhu misunderstood; he didn’t reject those shoes. He actually liked them very much. However, he felt a bit strangely ashamed and hesitant to admit it at this moment—after all, more than 600,000 yuan for shoes was indeed beyond the scope of his usual expenditures.
Yao Wenzhu breathed a sigh of relief and said, “If you like it, then accept it! Otherwise, mother will be unhappy. We are all one family, even if not biologically related to me. Do you understand?”
Xie Qi replied, “Oh… Thank you, Mom.”
Yao Wenzhu came over, patted his shoulder, and said, “Qiqi, Mom is very satisfied with you. If Yizhi wakes up and falls in love with someone else, I will never agree to it. Yes, he must marry you!”
Xie Qi: “…”
He couldn’t help but sweat in his heart. The moment Qin Yizhi woke up, he should run away.
